  1. Its well known now that you can clean out carbs by soaking them in a 50/50 mix of pinesol and water. I bet it would take that out too. Some guys have even made a gel using pinesol and pectin(for canning) to brush on parts.
  2. 2014 - Lake Erie Smallmouth Spawn
  3. If I were going into it today this is things I would check Iginition coils for signs of burn out(this can get to be a nightmare) Replaced spark plug wires(just like a car, they need maintence) Cylinder heads, look for fuel running out of the plug holes(tells me that its likely not adjusted properly)(ignore if EFI) Compression(no brainer) Fuel lines(you can replace these for next to nothing, anyone who cares about their boat will replace them) Wrench marks on the bolts of the lower unit(tells me if he ever changed out the impeller) Trailer Tires and Bearings(Need to be able to transport it) Prop conditions(nicked up props make for bad performance, think of hanging a half oz weight on a ceiling fan running full bore) Do the pumps work, bilge and livewell Do all the fish finders work Do the switches work Any leaks Bad Carpet Whats the throttle feel like is it sticky Hows the tilt work, will it hold it up indefinitely Soft spots in the deck... If I see any sign of neglect in the motor, forget it, thats where most of the value is. The rest we can start whackn money off the price to fix issues. I also want an on the water ride that lasts half a day. I wanna see the motor start cold, I wanna see the motor run its guts out for a half an hour then shut it off, fish run it hard again and so forth. Some motors will purr like a kitten on muffs and do a face dive on the water.
  4. Something must still be feeding it unless its got carp in it
  5. Its quite apparent I dont fish a senko enough
  6. There are also inland impoundments that have stripers in them, Raystown lake in pa produced the state record and its a big one. What we percieve from the top down is also something to consider. 1: With refraction what you think you see isnt exactly whats happening under the water. 2: If a bass can swim up lets say from 40ft and smash a bait how is it that by the time he reaches the surface hes not choking on the swim bladder. IF they can come up from that depth that fast then why is it necessary to fizz a bass?
  7. Biffle attempted to clear two waterfalls in his, "waterfall" being a subjective term I dont believe they were true waterfalls. I personally cannot afford at this point in my life to chance ripping a lower unit out of my motor to catch a limit. But its been proven multiple times this year by guys that they will try almost anything for a limit. That was my reason for this conversation.
  8. The thing about local guys is they kill themselves on day one. In my bass club on certain lakes you can almost with certainty say where a specific boat is going to be if he gets there first. They box themselves in. So they go to that hole thats produced big fish and they stick five and come in day 1 with 25lbs lets say. Theyre never even gonna see day 4 because they dont have any other spots to produce 25lbs of fish. If you think electronics are making the fishing like shooting them in a barrel you are naive. The fish finder doesnt tell you with down imaging that its a largemouth on that tree, hell it could be a catfish.
  9. I think the BASS site said one other guy made it without issue. Whats more impressive is that he had two motor techs replace that lower unit in record time and still boxed 4 more fish. I tried to think what this would be like for me and at best what I could relate it to I cant imagine the consequences. Id have an 80,000 boat stuck in a place there would be zero hope of getting it out without a crane.
  10. Thats like buying an aircraft carrier and saying you dont want radar.
  11. Just got to thinking about this a little as we see some of these guys run for "broke" lol with Biffle jumping waterfalls and ripping out lower units. Have you ever went far enough up a tributary that you thought, wow Im surprised I made it or, how am I gonna get back? In doing so did you cash a check? What kind of a pay day would it take for you to try a waterfall jump?
  12. I was once pro, not in bass but in fly fishing. I can tell you what did it for me was focus and time on the water. I fished so much I had tennis elbow. I knew that when I approached a pool that I was going to have to stop my rod high or lay it out based on the depth. If I couldnt get the nymphs to the fish at the head of the pool who were on the bottom I didnt catch fish. As I fished that often I developed what I refer to as a sixth sense. I cant even begin to explain it. I was so in tune with that rod from fishing so much that I could detect strikes on slack line without seeing the line move. It was ODD. As word got out total strangers knew who I was on the creeks and would aproach me, that told me that not only was I good at it but other people respected what I figured out about it. It wasnt just the fish, I learned about every insect that hatched from the middle of winter till the following winter, what its characteristics were, what it looked like. I would know that as a hatch was winding down and the next one was picking up that the fish were keying on those nymphs and not the ones everyone was fishing. I dedicated myself too it, but it wasnt because I wanted fame, in fact once I became a pro in that world I walked away it did nothing for me but make me not like it. I didnt like the guiding, showing, telling, tying leaders and flies every night. I just wanted to catch those fish. Now, had I grown up with a lake out the front door and not a stream my story might be different today. When youre 14 years old, its summer, you cant drive and a stream is 15ft away, youll learn what makes them tick.
  13. The bald eagle can and does support it. Ive had 50 fish(combined with friends) in the upper reaches as far up as Julian. After the confluence with spring creek there are many spots on the bald eagle which top 15ft in depth. Sayers itself, the deepest reading I have ever taken was 29ft.
  14. Paul I agree with you, my thoughts were along the lines of that I live on the main tributary. The sheer number of smallmouth in it in summer are no where to be found in spring and the same goes for the lake. You go from smashn em in fall/winter/early spring(on the lake) to not catching but a random one here or there. I have never been to a summer weigh in where someone had a boat full of smallies on this lake. The lake in question is Foster Joseph Sayers Dam, it was fished by FLW College a couple years ago.
  15. 1 - Finesse/Trick Worm on a Dropshot 2 - Jig 3 - Carolina rig
  16. Norman Deep Little N Norman DD22 CBT Weigh Bag Ignition Coil Plug Wires New Spark Plugs (in the last week)
  17. Powerteam Hog Tonic, stand back lol
  18. Im going to Chautauqua in two weeks
  19. I had a discussion about this on the dock the other night with a fellow club member. I was thinking our smallmouth in our lake were running into the main "river" in the summer. His argument was that the fish in the river are there all year, its not the bass in the lake moving up.
  20. the following are 100% what you need I tripple checked this is your bearing L44649 http://www.etrailer.com/p-L44649.html Your race http://www.etrailer.com/p-L44610.html Your seal is http://www.etrailer.com/Seals-for-Trailer-Bearings/TruRyde/RG06-010.html
  21. seals come in different sizes, depends on the dimesions of your hub also. Your seal diamter is out of whack, its not that large when it starts. also most "kits" come with a single lip seal which is a no-no on a marine trailer
  22. Here are just a few. If you would like to see them all theyre on the club website as of a few mins ago. http://ccbassmasters.com/projects/
  23. i decked an entire 14' jon boat i dont have any pics during the process of it. you need a frame, wood, epoxy.... Just get after it, its not hard.
  24. id build a storage box off on one side so if it rains when youre out all your stuff wont get soaked.
  25. We were supposed to do 40 boxes this year but finances dont allow it. Sayers is getting better every year, 3 years ago the big bass got hit with a virus which lost a lot of big fish, theyre coming back and the fish commission/dcnr/clubs are doing a lot of work to help it out. Sayers is not only a bass fishery, the one guy last night told me they put 12 catfish nest boxes in last year and had 18 spawning events between 12 boxes. Biggest thing they are doing now is...how can we make this fishery sustain itself through habitat rather than stocking.
