  1. Nice fish, congrats.
  2. WD40 = crap, infomercial grade snake oil It should be banned. I wouldn't buy it or apply it to anything and NEVER put it on a fishing reel. Just my .02 worth.
  3. I like reels with dual brakes (centri & mag), I had a BPS proqual and it was sweet (wish I still had it). Like dodgeguy says, its really nice on windy days. Might try a BPS carbonlite reel, it has dual brakes and is only 6.7oz for $119. Reels with dual brakes are also great to learn how to use a baitcaster. I wish diawa and/or shimano made a highend reel with dual brakes.
  4. I use a 7:1 for spinners and lipless cranks, I like it, just have to slow down a bit.
  5. paul you are the man and always catch some awesome fish, it would be an experience to fish with you sir.
  6. Ive had both the 100 and the 50 and still own the 50. IMHO they are very different reels. The 50 is much lighter and more refined than the 100. I use the 50 for a lot of different techniques. It can handle most any lure and casts the light stuff very well.
  7. thats awesome dude, looks like you found what worked that day.

1st for 2010 (actually its the 2nd but didnt have the camera with me a couple of weeks ago). It was just starting to get warm, now its gonna snow again tomorrow so they will go back to sleep.
  9. that steez decal was made for that boat
  10. If I could only pick 1 of each then it would be: baitcast - steez 6:1 100HA reel & steez 7' MH rod spinning - shimano stella reel & looms sjr782s glx rod 8-) 8-) 8-) Seriously, you should look at BPS or Cabelas for their mid priced combos. You can catch them on sale and pickup some good gear. I would pick a good 6:1 baitcast reel + 7' MH fast rod and a good spinning reel + 6'6" M fast rod.
  11. if its "brand new" then take it back to the store and get a replacement.
  12. If its a used "high end" rod like a Loomis GLX or St Croix then I would use their replacement program and spend $50 to get a new rod. If its a Steez rod, you should be able to get an over the counter replacement at BPS or Cabelas. You would end up with a $300-$500 rod for very little $$$.
  13. On the high end side (steez) its the very smooth precision feel with no play or rattle when turning the handle. Other brands are very good too but not as smooth. The exception would be the Shimano Stella spinning reel, feels like butter in your hand.
  14. Stop it, this is killing me ! Ike has switched from $400+ Steez rods to $99 budget rods! Of course, if you pay me enough to fish with it I'll fish with a broom handle and tell everyone its great. Next thing you'll see is Ike flippin with a cane pole.
  15. I agree. Matt does phenomonal work! X3, Matt will guide you through every step and cover every detail.
  16. glass or composite for crankin, I have owned and used a Shimano Cumara Med Reaction for shallow and med depth cranks, it was a very nice rod for $200 and Im told the MH Reaction Cumara is good for deep cranks. Now I use Daiwa Steez FleXlite ML, M & MH Reaction rods for cranks, they are an excellent lightweight graphite/composite rod but not cheap.
  17. I bought a Shimano Cumara 7' MedFast Reaction rod a few months ago and put a Shimano Core 50 MG reel on it. Made a very nice combo and very lightweight. Great for shallow cranks and rat-L-traps. Sold it last month cause I didnt fish it much, the buyer got a sweet deal.
  18. I HOPE I am there to see that !
  19. I've found my co-angler for the season! In fact, she can even drive the boat and operate the trolling motor and stand on the front deck. I'll just sit in the back of the boat and watch.
  20. Im registered and paid up for everything. Wouldn't miss it for anything.
  21. I just got one mostly for shaky heads but will also use it for drop shots, tubes, or anything light. weightless plastics, small shallow cranks & small spinnerbaits
  22. I think they are trying to compete with the Shimano Calais DC reel, its almost 9 oz. It appears the MagForce 3D brake system on the Daiwa Z 2020SH is attempting some of the same magic as the digital control of the Shimano Calais DC.
  23. This was my first smallmouth rod. Now I use it for crappie, white bass and stocker trout. It would be fun for smallmouth, but on the Tennessee River we catch a lot of HUGE trash fish. I need a rod that handles everything, big and small. I like the rod a lot! Mine is matched up with a Stella 1000FA. 8-) RW, thats a sweet light weight combo, but not cheap! That Stella 1000 is like a little slice of spinning heaven.
  24. Not according to all the videos I watched, its a bass reel using very common lures.
