  1. I can't call what I do power loading, but I only have to crank the winch about 2"-3". The trailer is backed in just far enough that I can idle almost to the winch post. I climb over the trolling motor and on to the trailer, hook up the strap and crank the last couple inches. Climb back in the boatand hop out on the dock.
  2. No. You need a MSO (if new), owners card (if it has never been titled) or a title. If it has a trailer, you'll also need the title of the trailer. Motors are not titled in PA.
  3. Sharp tools. Most important thing, especially with acrylic.
  4. No problem. The best part of the metal lathe is the uniformity of the cut. There are never any low or high points to remove like when you use a chisel on a wood lathe. Finish sanding is almost nonexistent. Hit it with some 400 and put finish on it. On the acrylic, I start with 600 and, then jump to the micromesh pads. I do my sanding and polishing on the wood lathe.
  5. Yes, the acrylic and the wood.
  6. I'm fine. None of the beers made the pics. Been drinking Victory Cage Radler like its water. Also been mixing some of my own radlers with blood orange soda and Lagunitas Daytime. Gotta keep the ABV low when working with machinery!
  7. Couple rods that left the shop last month. 3S68MXF-F acrylic butt grip and winding check Blue burl cork grip. Sage One 10' 5wt Spalted maple fighting butt and reel seat insert (finished with Tru-oil and polished to 12k micromesh) Lemke solid titanium seat hardware.
  8. Not sure what kind of warranty would be on a 20+ year old custom Loomis. That alone would push me to the St Croix.
  9. For my fishing, they are of no value. The shallowest my boat sees is the marina when I leave and come back. Other than that, it's 18'-50'+ all day.
  10. Bow unit sounds like a low voltage issue. I had a Raymarine unit that would shut down due to low voltage. Long runs of wire that is too small will create a voltage drop. I need to install heavier wire to my bow unit as I believe the OEM wiring is too small. My console unit reads 11.5v-11.9v, but the bow unit reads 10.4v-10.9v.
  11. I only use my baitcasters a couple times a year anymore, just in the spring for the jerkbait bite. The rest of the year I'm fishing deep and vertical, two things that spinning gear does much better than casting.
  12. Because you won't find a 21' glass boat for $50k. The tin I priced at a dealer last October came in at $71k. Just boat, motor and trailer. No TM, no electronics, no batteries, no options.
  13. If I was in the market for a limited lake boat, I'd be jumping on that 16' jon.
  14. I do both. If there's nothing on my screen, I cast and slowly drag back to the boat. If I see something pop up on the screen, I immediately drop to it.....and usully catch it. This has worked for me in depths from 16' to 50'+.
  15. I don't believe Ralph is working anymore, he's in his late 80s I believe. Just about any rod builder should be able to fix that for you.
  16. I tie lots of Palomar knots for DS. Half the time it's up, half the time it's down. When it's up, I leave it alone. When it's down, I run the tag end through the eye and viola, it's up.
  17. Not enough!! Only 6 states. PA, NY, OH, MD, WV, FL. Plus Ontario, Can.
  18. Almost every cancelled trip is because of wind. Lake Erie can be nasty with 15mph sustained winds.
  19. thread wrap finish. I got Gary Loomis to sign my NFC back in 2012 and I applied a coat of finish over it to protect it.
  20. I run Erie almost exclusively in a rig very similar to yours (17' Mr. Pike with 135 Honda). You just have to be smart, watch the weather and know your limitations. I've been out in some stuff I shouldn't have, but the boat handles it just fine. I won't launch in anything over 2' waves.
  21. I use 6# Inviz-X leaders on my DS rods and 8# on my tube rod.
  22. That's cause they know custom builders would build a better rod than them!
  23. I can't speak for that particular bait, but unless you're pretty much dragging it on the bottom, it's not gonna imitate a goby very well. One of my friends observed gobies in his aquarium and unless they are actively persuing food, they lay on the bottom. As soon as they stop swimming, they sink like a rock and lay there.
  24. I'd nose hook it with a #8 Owner Mosquito
