I never use baitcasting reels
I’m 50/50 on using spinning verses bait caster….. I use what ever meets my needs at the time. It doesn’t matter what ya use just get the bait in the water.

Frog Colors ?
I have two colors, black, black belly and greenish with orange/ yellow belly. I have a few of the hollow bodied too but don’t use them much. The BPS humpin toad seems to work real good for me. They sink super slow, so you can work it like a topwater after you get out of the pads heading back to the boat.

Dwight Hottle and A-Jay aren't the best fishers!
I can totally understand. Had one dive down right beside me, after I had been fishing for couple hours with out even a nibble. He/she came up with a huge bowfin, didn’t even see it coming, startled the bejeebs out of me. I’m sure it flew off squawking “Amateur!”

Spinning gets the nod
You sound like me @ScottW, I had the hardest time with a bait caster. Every fishing trip, I’d end up bird nesting to the point I’d lay it down and pick up my faithful spinning rig. Then one day it just clicked for me, don’t let me sound like I’m bragging. I still get the occasional mess, just less frequent and, they’re not as bad. Main thing is, fish want ya want. Get the bait in the water. I am about 50/50 spinning and bait caster, still can’t skip a bait caster.

First Boat / New Member - 1993 Bass Tracker Tournament V17 - 60hp Johnson
Nice rig, post some more pics of it. I agree with @WRB fish out of it, enjoy it. Make it safe and sound, then use it for a bit. As far as the electronics, it’s mind boggling on options out there., and pricey too. I’ve got a cheap under$100.00 dollar hummingbird. For where and how I fish it works for me. Be safe out there. G

Flipping a Tube
@BrianMDTX I think you’ll like them, BPS has some but the hook is kinda big for what I like, 4/0. I like the colors too, smoke purple has worked good for me in clearer water. They must have a lot of salt in the tubes, the hooks will rust where it comes out of the tube if you leave it rigged in storage for long periods. But other than that, great tubes and jig heads.

Flipping a Tube
I like stupid tubes, by secret lures https://shop.secretlures.com/ really like their tube jigs, weight is inside the tube.

Rattle or rattle me not ?
I’ve switched from a lipless crank with a lot of rattles to a one knocker and started catching, and vice versa. I know they have lateral lines that feel vibration. What determines when they want multiple rattles, to one rattle, to none …… Sorry, …I don’t know. I just carry all the variations. I’ve never seen any kind of consistency or patterns.

Spinning rod and moving baits question
There was a time where all I had was a spinning rig, I only had one rig. I used it for everything, finesse fishing to throwing crank baits. If I could tie it on, I fished it. It might not be the right rig for the bait, but the main thing is getting the bait in the water.

Frog gigging
My Dad and my Uncle told me this story about frogging probably a million times…I’ll keep it short. They were frog gigging one night, when a snake got in the boat( don’t know how they said it just appeared) anyway my Uncle hates snakes, started trying to kill the snake with the gig. He was stabbing and poking at it, my Dad was yelling for him to stop. They sank the boat shortly after that. They were in a rubber raft….. lost most of their gear, had to walk back to the truck, and no frogs.

HALL PASS time!!
Be safe and catch lots of fish, keep us updated and tell your wife “safe travel” and take lots of pics …. You, not your wife, I’d rather see a smooth lake and a nice fish than Paris. have fun

No fishing for me.
When it floods on the St. John’s, it’s usually a slow rise. it will open low lying areas, where you can fish around standing trees. I feel the fish are a little skittish though, new to the area kinda thing. So I just fish slow and quietly as I can.

**Bassman Spinnerbait Public Service Announcement**
Thought you were going say….” Every time I bring it back to the boat, there is a fish on it”. LOL

barometric pressure
I don’t know about the numbers, what’s good or bad but, I’d know change will turn on the bite. One time, I was fishing a long a bank wasn’t getting anything, zilch, nada, nothing, kaput….. Clouds rolled in, I could fell the change and the temp drop. I started getting bites, I swung around and fish the same shore, using the same bait and was catching fish. For an area I thought was void of fish, I sure put them in the boat, figurative speaking, I turn them all loose.
