My Fishing Style is Changing
I’ll work an area I think have fish… you know that area you just know gotta have a big one hiding along this section of shore. Change baits, slow down, speed up, top water, bladed jig. Not always right but that’s fishing.

Jig vs T-Rigged Craw
I like a jig with a skirt when I want a bigger presentation, T rig with a bullet weight when a smaller one is what they are biting.

Need recommendation for 1st baitcast setup for 14 year old
I have one of these…. great rig. I have the 6’6” medium, I use it the most, it is kinda my go to setup. I feel it’s a pretty universal combo. If I could only take one with me I would grab it. It has dual braking- centrifugal and magnetic, light weight. I mean I have a top water rig but I have used this one for popper and spooks, then switched to Texas rig and finesse fished too.

Fishing Lures as tools
Texas rig= soft plastics topwater= poppers and spooks if there is any room left in this “tool box” a few rattle traps type baits.

New guy from Texas
Hi from the Sunshine State of Fl. I sorta did the same thing….fished a lot when I was younger, got out of it during the military and a few years after that. When I did pick it back up, thanks to this site, made it so I able to learn a lot.

Favorite hook for t-rigging tubes
I was just gonna suggest stupid tubes. I got some of those around Xmas, I really like how weedless they are. I bought some of their tubes too, they also have hollow body craws that rig they same way. BPS sells one called a goof-e head I think.

Why are Hard Bottoms more desirable?
Can’t see your bait if it’s under the silt.

Making new baits out of old baits
Me too… one time I ended up with green pumpkin trick worm with a metholade translucent swirl …..and nope couldn’t buy a bite with them.

Making new baits out of old baits
Left over curly tail worms make great addition to a spinner or buzz bait. I use parts of them for trailers, jigs, Ned’s or whatever until melt down time. Keep a coffee jar in the boat for the pieces, I go thru every so often pick out the unusable pieces.

I love the smell of anise in the morning
My favorite….garlic, then anise…… smells good, but it sure don’t taste like it……or so I’ve been told. Is it an attractant? I don’t know. Maybe if they are super close and curious. Track it down like a catfish or shark, I don’t think so. Does it make them maybe hold on longer….. I believe so. If it gives me a second or so longer to react to a bite, I all in. But just because I believe don’t make it so. Sure do like how it makes the skirts not stick together, tubes easier to rig too.

Time Of Day
The bite can be tough here in FL in the summer. I’m always looking for transitions, sun-shade, cooler- warmer water, cover to open water. I try to get out at daylight and start, the bite slows way down around 10-11am until around 4pm. if I’ve going to stay out all I day and make the best of it.
