Power, Finesse, or Both?
Mostly lean finesse. Today though the bass didnt want finesse 1/20ned rig trd on my ML/Mod spinning set-up caught zero fish. They wanted Power Finesse 1/5ned rig trd on my SV105 20# braid 7' MH/MF Crucial baitcaster, got this 3# with this set-up. They were out 100'+ on bottom needed heavier to get out there.

Fenwick Elite tech
I bought the 7'6" MH/F ETB casting and wasnt impressed with it. Balance was off too much and pretty much a dud on sensitivity. I returned it and went with 7'6" MH/F Word Class and have been very pleased with this rod. Being lighter and yet better balanced made huge difference in performance feel in hand. Plus basically got it for $200

Baitcast Rod for weightless wacky-rigging
Go light in overall weight. Look at the Okuma Helios 7' M/F weighs just 3.3ounces and yet still balances well with a light reel. Get a light reel in the 6oz or under range(Daiwa SV105) to put on it and it will be very nice to fish with.

Reel Talk
If I was going to buy a reel around that price I would get Tatula CT. If I could afford a tad more I would spring for a Shimano Curado 70 for $144.

Gliss Monotex Line ~ A Brief Review
I did some quick home style knot strength tests with some 40# Gliss I recently purchased. I haven't used the line yet these tests on fresh line. With double palomar I got 16-17 pounds, with through eye twice 6 turn uni knot 20 pounds and with line doubled then put through eye twice 6 turn uni knot 24 pound knot strength.

BFS Reel Seat
Do you even need one?? I have 4 micro guide bass rods they dont have any double footed guides. Oldest is 7 years heavy use without an issue.

With which reel would you treat yourself?
I have/used 40&30# Trilene Pro braid and would say its about equal to 832 but color lasts longer on Trilene Pro. For moving baits that you mentioned earlier is why I think 832 isnt the best choice. 832 will be a little noisier and not as smooth as the 3 I posted prior.

All good except for the braid choice IMO. Super8Slick, Gamma Torque, Smackdown are a few braids I think are better than 832

braid test question
Ive always used braided line in one form or another. Oh 14 years ago or so started using 10# powerpro on baitcaster and that became my type of line ever since. When I signed on to this site and mentioned that I used such light line I was practically vilified. For 8-9 years all I used was 10#pp, as braid advanced to 8 strand and using more pricey lures wanting a bit more strength to pull out snags went with 15-20# braids. The thin dia is a help for visibility, I dont use leaders, bass have relatively poor eyesight if you take the word of Berkley biologists. I finally went and tried 40# braid and noticed right away a difference. The line of course being thicker was heavier and just felt like my casts were being hindered because of it. During retrieve the extra weight pulling down can be felt on rod with just a bit more effort to reel a lure in. Most braid anyways seems to be underrated power wise. 10# will hold to 15, 20# will hold to 26. Except for smackdown or kanzen those hold to less than or right at rating. Are there situations 40+ may be wanted sure but not for me or for clear open water where I want to cast as far way as possible so as not to spook fish and get to areas other usually dont.

Line choice for spinning and crankbaits?
I use 8# Nanofil on ML/Mod 8' Avid. Works very well with small bitsy minnows, nano cranks, mini fat raps, small in-line spinners. Why? Distance, line management, line twist doesnt effect it nearly as much as other lines save braid.

Latest Tackle Purchase Thread (Bait Monkey Victim Support Group)
Just as Alexczarn's scenario I purchased a SG 3d line thru trout as a filler. Had a gift card to use and ordered a curado 70 and to use up the rest of card tossed in some Gliss 40# and the trout. Card had $170 on it total was a little over $169

Upgrading to Carbon Drag
I sent it to a known reel service to have that done, Ill leave it at that.

Upgrading to Carbon Drag
The stock drag on the CI4 is one of the smoothest most consistent tested drags on another site. My CI4 I "upgraded" to carbontex drag now not able to get it to lockdown or as tight as easily as stock form. So actually power went down it seems, would like to have stock drag back in. I really have to crank on the dragstar to get close to lockdown.

Shimano Curado 70/71 - Is It Worth It?
Had my 70 out today had to go with the lower ratio cause well they didnt have higher in stock but I have CI4 for higher speed. This thing ROCKS, for the price I paid, GREAT value. TWO BIG Very windy out today 20mph or so with gusts of 30 and getting it set-up wasnt an issue at all. With setting of one brake internal and 4-6 on the dial I fished around the whole lake tailwind crosswind headwind it handled the windy conditions quite well. Used 30# Gamma braid and throwing FAT IKA.
