  1. it's a Niche reel. The new alphas is better suited for all around use. The 19' ct is super smooth and shares the same footprint of the previous alphas. The spool is it's only limiting factor. It's a fairly quick spool and doesn't cater well towards all around use. It is however an excellent light bait reel. Not BFS worthy but that 1/8-1/4oz territory.
  2. The OG zillion, which is what you have and what it's referred to, is a tank of a reel. It's an essence, bulletproof. The stock spool isn't anything to write home about for a universal use standpoint. It's, as said above, a phenomenal 3/8+ total weight reel. There are aftermarket 36mm spools avaiable but they are getting harder to find as of late. Fortunately, parts are still widely available in japan. The Jdream and PE special zillion share the same gear dimensions and are still available. It's not the lightest reel but it is a tank of a reel and is butter smooth when maintained correctly. m
  3. All of the Tatula SV reels can work a crankbait effectively. They aren't the best SV option, but they'll still work fine.
  4. The RCS SV1016 spool performs really well for both control and distance that's found in the steez svtw. The stock previous generation Zillion G1SV spool is a cheaper alternative and another great spool. I don't have more than 2 weeks /w the new SV Boost spool but so far, it's great. The tatula line is the entry level SV which is more user friendly. you aren't going to win any distance contests /w that spool but it's very controlled and user friendly.
  5. goto youtube and look up the hook up tackle. They have videos on the P5's and break them down.
  6. I actually had this on an old dobyns champ. What I did was take very fine sandpaper and smooth out the entire ring to make sure there was no nicks or cracks. And then took polish with a Dremel and polish the insert smooth. It’s been like that for two years.
  7. It wasn’t intended to be. It was directed at the video. He knew what he was doing and it was a bit disingenuous how we went about doing it. For reference, any LTD daiwa reel you see isnt New. It’s always a current real with either a mirror or paint scheme difference, a new spool, and sometimes a handle/knobs/gear ratio. IE damiki LTD, steez LTD ‘14
  8. This guy is just being captain click bait. The video producer makes countless youtube comments about views/what views are worth/etc. Anybody /w half a brain knew what exactly the steez LTD was and what any LTD daiwa reel is. I understand he's trying to get views for $ but taking the majority of his advice, casting reel wise, should be taken /w a grain of salt.
  9. What people don't seem to understand is that this is not a "new steez". It's an LTD version of the current Steez SVTW. What they did /w this reel is exactly what they did /w the previous LTD version of the steez in 2014 and other LTD variants....a reflective paint job and a new spool. This is always the case on all LTD versions of Daiwa reels. There's sometimes a handle/knob variation but not too often. The Zillion and the Alphas that just came out are actually new variants /w the Zillion being a completely redesigned reel.
  10. ZPI, Alpha tackle, SDS customs all make quality carbon fiber handles for shimano.
  11. Start and end /w his "Wreck" model. it isn't a direct copy of the WEC E1 but it's very close and the action is spot on. I absolutely hated black label up until last year when cliff really turned things around buying the duplicators and making new models. His baits are absolutely top notch now and on par /w the mutt, hickey, and E1 I throw on a regular basis. His Wreck, peanut, hickster, and potbelly are a steal at the price he sells them for. ]
  12. Jawjacker j1, wec e1, black label wreck, and super bee jr are the ones i throw the most as far as balsa squarebills go
  13. Digitaka has daily coupon codes they release on twitter but they go quick. First come first serve type of thing. Usually 500-1000 yen. jpangler is the best for shipping and prices. Ordered a new zillion 1000sv saturday afternoon....was at my door today at 9am.
  14. There’s a select few that do impeccable work but it is expensive to say the least and not worth it unless you want something custom. Its cheaper to just purchase a new frame or side plate if available. Frame pieces arent terribly expensive relative to what a paint costs. If you really want a paint, look up rembrandtreels on instagram and go from there. His work is incredible but its expensive
  15. if you are deal hunting, look at Jpangler. I ordered a new zillion 1000tw for 318$ yesterday and it's going to be delivered tuesday....can't beat that.
  16. I prefer the air stream over the air tw simply over the aesthetics. CF handle/spool etc. both reels are exceptional reels if you want a strictly BFS setup. .
  17. I think something like a 1/16oz hairjig would be manageable on the 700. Alphas CTSV is a little deeper of a spool that what I would prefer if I'm building a BFS specific setup but it would suffice. I would prefer the stream custom reel as a starting point.
  18. Casting reels should be always be serviced annually. Spinning can go significantly longer.
  19. The 100 is a solid reel as long as the gears are good. I picked one up to tinker with last year. added levelwind and handle bearings, flushed the snot out of the spool bearings and polished the spool shaft and clutch internals. super smooth reel and will bomb a jerkbait after I got done with it.
  20. They are awesome on a crig
  21. instagram is where i find most of the limited colors from JDM vendors offering them right away. The HookupTackle is also a good follow for finding them first.
  22. Yes, there's videos all over youtube on how to do it. The tatula has a spool bearing in the side plate and then a second spool bearing that is only accessible by removing the handle side plate below the CC knob. It's very simple to get to both of them.
  23. clean the spool bearings to open up the reel. they come overly lubricated. If you just want another reel, the Elite Long cast is the same concept as the prior HLC and is meant for, obviously, long casting and is the same frame as the current tatula sv.
