How heavy? I use my 723 for Tx rigs that have a 1/8-3/8 weight. Over that I'll use my 714 but I'm mainly pitching things like a D bomb with a 1/2 weight to pads and cover. Open water it's the 723.

Yes, I understand that but it's not to the rod itself like putting 1oz worth of lead under the butt cap. I'm not a rod builder so I'm strictly going off things I've read on forums like rodbuilder. Hopefully someone like Mike from DVT can answer this better for me. I'm curious to hear if the deadened sensitivity claim is true or false.

Adding weight to the butt of the rod is an alright method for balancing but any added weight to the rod itself causes a loss in sensitivity. At least that's what I've always been lead to believe through my research.

It really just depends on the rod and where you like your rods to balance out at. For me using my 7'1 H with that 9oz reel would be a pretty balanced combo but on my 7" med it most likely wouldn't be at all. All you can do is mount the reel and see how it feels to you. Agree but as mentioned a heavier reel can balance out some rods better and it'll feel lighter then an unbalanced combo that has less overall weight. So that would be less fatigue on your wrist verse using a tip heavy combo for 8hrs. Now if both combos balance out well then obviously I'd choose the lighter of the 2.For instance I have 2 of the exact same rod. One with a 5.5oz reel and one with a 7.6oz reel. Both balance almost at the same spot. So I reach for the lighter combo 90% of the time.

For me it's something that kinda just happens on it's own like a spinnerbait strike. I reel left handed so the rod is around 11 o'clock when I'm reeling. When I hear the strike the rods usually starting to load bc the fish has grabbed it and turned to swim away. I use a sweep set by turning at the waist just like I do with a spinner bait. When fishing a buzzbait I'm throwing braid so driving the hook isn't really an issue. I can't remember ever loosing a fish by doing this. I've had them miss the bait before but that's just part of the game.

I own 2 of the exceler exe models. It's a nice little reel for the $70 you can get them for. I've had no issues and I use them quite a bit.

It all depends on the rod it's going on. On a longer rod like a 7'6 you wouldn't want a 5oz reel. It's not going to balance out well. Something in the 7-9oz range would be better. That leads into another area. A well balanced combo with a 8oz reel will feel lighter in your hand than a tip heavy combo that has a 5oz reel on it.

I own a regular and a type r. They're both smooth as can be. I'll be honest I can't tell a difference between the 2. The R is .03 lighter,has red accents,painted black vs dark grey,has a better spool.

Went back tonight and managed 17 plus 1 big crappie. I'd say it was 50/50 between the rage craw and cavitron. I threw it a lot more since I know they are hitting it now. I'd throw it and cover the area well and then cover it again with the rage craw. Then move down the bank to the end of where I was casting and repeat that process.

It's the same as guessing a fishes weight without a scale. Most people over guess their casting distance and the weights of fish. Unless you mark it off or put it on a scale it's merely speculation.

The front hook will be the larger of the two. Yes they usually go in even numbers so odd sizes are what's considered a 1/2 size. I can't help with what a dt6 comes with stock though. I use 2 of the same size when upgrading. I also use the mustad elite trebles. Those things are sharp!

No, I haven't ever thought about it to be honest. I knew they could be off +\- a bit but never imagined 1/2lb I'll have to track down a 5lb weight.

Fished for 2hrs after work last night. We had a crazy storm yesterday but it didn't effect the bite at all. Think it probably helped. 7:30-9:30 and I managed 18 fish. 4 in the first 20 minutes. Everything was on a rage craw Tx rigged except 5 of them were on a cavitron. All but 1 were decent fish. For some reason I just thought it'd be worth tying on and I'm glad I did. First fish on it went 3.6 We had some more crazy rain last night and some light showers today. I'm gonna go give it another shot after work.

A little Western Md update. Went last night after work. Fished from 7:30-9:30 and ended the night with around 18 bass. Had 4 in the first 20 minutes. All on a Tx rigged rage craw except 5 were on a cavitron buzzbait. First topwater fish of the year for me. The 3.6 was on my 2nd cast with the buzzbait. Feels good to finally get into them.

Okay so we all know that Big O's products are very popular here on BR. For good reason too. I own a fair amount of different rage baits and they always produce for me. Some more than others. So I'd like to hear some of your favorite styles and how you prefer to fish them. My absolute favorite bait and presentation would have to be the craw/lobster on a tx rig with a 3/16 or 1/4 tungsten weight. I like to pitch it to cover, just as much but with a little more weight sometimes. I also like the rage rig too. I'll save them to use as jig trailer once they get torn up. A little mend it and cutting off about a 1/2" and they're good to go. 7 and 10" anaconda 8" recon 7" thumper All Tx rigged with 3/16-3/8 tungsten weight Shellcracker - I've had no luck with it. Tried it Tx rigged normal and sideways. Weighted and weightless Smokin' rooster - Mostly the same as above. I've fished it on bottom and on top the water. Only fish caught on it were by pitching it to cover. Toad - Self explanatory really. Hold on tight!

I spooled a reel with it while waiting on my other fluoro to get here. I thought it was awful. Stiff,lots of memory,not very sensitive.
