I have a 705cb in the fury series that was purchased for that technique. It's too much on the moderate side of its rating for me. I used my 703 prior and I actually like it better for that.

Yeah, that's why I just used the core gears. I was going off of memory but I was off a bit. It's been a while since I did the swap though.

Core 7:0:1 takes up 28" of line. Brenious 7:7:1 takes up 30" of line. Core gears are aluminum and the Brenious has brass gears. I went with Core gears since they're easy to order direct from Shimano and the difference in ipt wasn't much.

Take the handle and drag star off. Remove the side plate. Pull the pinion gear off and the main gear. Replace those two parts and add a little grease to the teeth of the main gear.

Yes, the core gears work great. I had a set in my Chronarch 51e. I mentioned the Brenious gears because you can get a little more ipt out of them. Core gears can be ordered from Shimano and I think it ran me about $30. You need - Core 51 mg7 parts Main gear - part 4070 Pinion gear - part 4073 Key washer - part 3941 Yoke 'optional' - part 4074

You can use the gearset from a Shimano Brenious. Aside from the main and pinion you need a few other parts. I have it all written down. Let me see if I can find it for you. Order the parts from Japan Tackle.

Matagi has a balancing system very similar to that. It's a good design.

I shortened a Falcon Bucoo that I had. Since it's a split grip and they use a very simple eva butt cap that requires no arbor or boring it was very easy to do. I called them and had them send me a new butt cap. Made a few wraps with painters tape to give me a line to cut on. I used a Dremel with cutting disc and took off 2.5" from the rod. Used some marine glue and put on the new butt cap. Looks exactly like it did before except now it's 6'7 instead of 6'10

Yes, using some mono as backing gives the braid something to bite into. Backing can also be utilized to to fill the spool about 40% so you don't waste an entire spool of braid on 1 reel. I spool 5 reels with a 300 yard spool of braid.

I fish braid with a leader on all but just a few of my combos. I'd say 1/2 of those have #30 power pro hi vis. For me it does help with some of what you mentioned. You can also take a green sharpie and use it to color a desired length of your braid if you're worried about the fish seeing it.

It all varies from each company. Since there is no set standard things can get a bit tricky when it comes to a rods power. I have a Falcon Bucoo that is labeled as a heavy but they're known to overrate their rods. It fishes like a medium heavy and with the mod/fast action it makes a great squarebill rod. Dobyns is another one that leans on the overrated side of things. Then you have rods like the Veritas and the Tatula which fish heavier then their rated powers. Now for the couple heavy powered rods that I have that are true to their heavy power ratings I use them for the same things mentioned above. C rigs 1/2oz jigs with trailer Frogs in pads or thick grass Pitching into cover Big worms with 3/8+ weight

The cost effective route would be to replace the reel if you don't feel comfortable doing the work yourself. The part you are referring to by your description would be the pinion gear. It's about 1" long and rides on the outside of the main gear. It's held in place by a plastic piece called a yoke the sits on two metal pins. It's probably around $8-12 plus shipping. Unless they just send you one for free. Is the reel spooled with braid? If so then it's possible that it's just slipping on the spool. Take all the line off and tighten the drag down. Can you still easily rotate the spool with your thumb. If so then it's an internal problem. Purchasing parts,repair, and shipping both ways will be about the same price as a new reel. That's what I'd do.

It weighs exactly the same as a Tatula. I've seen a handful of Tatula's go for $75-90 new. At $50-60 the Lexa is a good buy. Any more than that and it's getting too close to the price of a Tatula, and not worth it. The Exceler Exe felt better than the Lexa and before they dropped in price was a better buy. I sold both an Exceler and a Lexa to a buddy. He's new to fishing casting reels and says the same thing. The Lexa has been known to have an issue during mid cast where the reel will engage and cause your bait to come to an abrupt stop mid air.

It's not exactly a benefit over spinning gear, but it's more fun to some of us. I personally don't like using spinning gear. You still use light line in the 4-8lb range and ultra light to medium light rods.

As already mentioned buying a finesse spool for an existing reel is the cheapest route. Some good bearings wouldn't here either. Assuming you don't already have them. My finesse reel is the one reel I noticed a real difference in performance. Where's the fun in that though,right? The bfs xg seems like a great choice and is in your budget.

What brand fluoro are you having issues with? Maybe try a better brand if it's not a good one already. I use the uni knot with 5-8 turns depending on what size line I'm using. I've had a few break offs but most of the time it's from not retying. I strictly use Sunline Sniper.

I got 4 - 600 yard spools on eBay for $22 shipped. That was about 6 months ago.

If it's going to be all purpose I'd get the 704. It's the most versatile rod that I own.

The main gear is about the size of a 1/2 dollar. It slides down on the driveshaft. The pinion gear is about the size of a pencil eraser. It rides on the outside of the main gear. Both need swapped to change the gear ratio.

You need to purchase the main and pinion gear from a Lews tournament pro model TP1SHL. That'll make your reel 7:1:1 That's as good as you're going to get.

Assuming you're referring to the plastic pieces on each side of the thumb bar. They should stay in place but are not permanently fixed to the reel. Yes, some oil would reduce friction.

Or buy it somewhere besides TW. They sell everything at full retail. I'm sure it can be found online for cheaper without trying to get over on someone.

You're set then. A mh is a very versatile rod. That's why most of us have multiples of them. MH is a good all purpose rod. I use my mh rods for a touch of everything. Plastics,jigs,lipless cranks,squarebills,spinnerbaits,buzzbaits. Yes, it would work great for a 4.8 fat with a jig head or tx rig. Those baits are pretty heavy alone.
