  1. Nice smallmouths you got there. This is the time of the year for both numbers and big fish on the river.
  2. Sorry I can't help with the questions but I just wanted to say I haven't hunted since I was in my early 20's but this would bring me back to it. This is something I really want to do. And its not just for the bacon. Well, maybe it is just for the bacon.
  3. Waterboarding. The water is right there. That's half the supplies you need.
  4. When I learned how to use a bait caster I thought it was like a spinning reel. Cast with the right, reel with the left. Now, after decades of using a left-handed reel looks like I got to switch. My problem is arthritis. 50% in my right hand makes it tough to grip a reel for long periods of time. Its only gonna get worse so I might as well start learning to use a right handed reel. I'll pick up a cheap one at Walmart to practice with and when I get use to it I'll spend more on a better reel.
  5. Soon they will return. 1 week till the return of Coral!
  6. When fishing with plastics I've found that super glue is my best friend. Just pick the gel kind.
  7. Should be a national holiday...eh?
  8. Here is my thinking on giving info to someone. The reason I'm general about the info I give is I don't know someone else's level of expertise. Telling them I caught a bunch of bass fishing deep on a drop shot rig using small flukes on a size 1 hook may not help any if the person doesn't know how to or doesn't want to know how to fish a drop shot rig. That's why I give general information.
  9. As the former owner of a pristine '70 Mustang Coupe with a 351 windsor motor I can tell you I would kill to have that car back. I am amazed to see the prices of some of the cars I use to drool over as a teenager. I can remember in the late 70's you could buy a used hemi powered dodge for about 2 grand. If a person had the money at the time they could have had quite a collection of big money muscle cars.
  10. Cool. I gotta admit that is a first if I ever heard one.
  11. I don't know. The lack of thumbs means gripping the reel and controlling the spool would be difficult but I once had a parrot who could bait a hook so anything is possible. As for who has the last word that depends on who gets laryngitis first.
  12. Are the dogs into bass fishing? Who is paying for this boat and who pays for your life insurance? If any of these answers are yes/not me, then it should be a family decision. If the answers are no/myself/none of your &^#@ business, then you should pick it Mr. Angrypants. Hope my advice was helpful. If not don't blame me.
  13. Cold in Louisiana??? How cold are we talking here?
  14. I think sharing info is a personal preference. Some do, some don't. I don't judge a person for not sharing but I'm not the kind of person that asks questions of other anglers. If I can't figure out the water on my own, its my fault I get skunked. To me its part of the challenge and fun of fishing. Especially if I'm at a lake I've never fished before. If I'm asked I usually give general answers and let them piece together the puzzle. The second part of this, the part about a stranger touching my gear, is a huge no-no. I'm not an aggressive person but that would put me in rage mode right then and there. I've had people try to walk away with fishing rods and tackle boxes before so something like that gets my blood boiling. Don't touch and don't ask to touch.
  15. For me its when I'm force to work 12 hours a day. No fishing and very little sleep. And winter cause I hate icefishing.
  16. Sad but true. This is what happened to the upper management at the company I currently work for. After the buyout the purge started. The higher-ups got to retire (early for most) but below them, those people got the boot. Many big homes went up for sale.
  17. Oh Kubiak being gone made a huge difference. I'm sure Broncos fans are wishing him a speedy recovery.
  18. Maybe you should have gotten a dolphin. Wait, that's an ex-dolphin. Maybe this one. Its in bad shape but still works...kinda.
  19. I own and carry a Gerber Fast Draw with a 3 inch blade. The reason is its sharp out of the pack, has a lock and is assisted open. That helps since I damaged my 2 thumbs in an auto accident years ago. The strength in my thumbs has never been the same. Its tough to open a normal knife with a thumb stud but the assisted open makes it easy.
  20. Wow! Awesome trout. That fish on a light rod with 6# line is a big trophy. Congrats.
  21. The days of knowledgeable sales people is pretty much over. Stagnant pay and corporate mentality have driven qualified workers out of places like this. These stores are like a Walmart for outdoor stuff. If you know what you are doing, do you want to work for some big company where you are nothing but a number or a small shop where your knowledge is appreciated?Even the guys behind the gun counter don't hold a candle to the people I find working at my local gun shop. I've questioned the gun counter guys at the Cabela's I go to about different guns and most just look at the tag and if it ain't on there they don't know. All the small gun shops I go to, the counter sales people can break these guns down and reassemble them easy.
  22. Like many others I've been on the wrong side of one of these mergers. It isn't easy when you spend a long time working for a company only to be "downsized" or have your job relocated. I hope the people affected by this find other jobs. In this new economy that isn't easy.
  23. Exactly what I was thinking. More of a defensive team with the bare minimum on offense. If they get to the SB you will start seeing more teams focusing on defense.
  24. Agreed. They did that in a few lakes I use to fish. The population of bass wasn't good in the lakes to begin with but got worse after they stocked the wipers. They found out a decade later that the bass couldn't compete with wipers for food and that adversely hurt the bass population. Not to mention depleting the bait fish numbers.
