I have to totally disagree. Braid casts awesome if using the right braid. Braid is also easier to remove a backlash from. Using the reel against thumb pressure technique I've gotten out some really bad backlashes in 30 years I've fished with braid.Braid is also not damaged by backlash. I hope the op is starting with 50 LB braid . Preferably Sufix832 or Viscious no fade braid.

Lew's tournament pro at 199$ will do that no sweat.

Johnny Morris Signature Series 7-6 heavy extra fast rated up to two oz. Definitely has more than enough power and backbone. If it was any more powerful it would rip lips off every fish. I only use it in the worst cover.

I had the same problem with the winn grip on my Patriot.At first they didn't want to cover it but I didn't put up with that. I am now back to using Jm Signature series with cork grips. Certain people's body oils and sweat tear up winn grips.im also using Dobyns Sierra Micro rods with cork grips.

Change it to vicious no fade braid. Lose the leader.

20 lb is way to light on a baitcaster. 30 lb if your skills are impeccable or 50 and up if your average.either your guides are bad possibly from reeling terminal tackle into the tip or you are having line dig from line that's to thin and not smooth and round enough.
