Braided line color?
I use colored braid for visibility like the other have said. Sometimes the fish will take the lure without the tell-tale tapping and just move with it. With a bright colored line (yellow) I can see the line starting to move much easier. I always tie a fluoro leader to my braid. Saves braid and clears up the visibility issue.

Richmond,VA yak fisherman
haha, Ive heard about that but Ive seen hundreds of snakes over the years and they always take off in the opposite direction like any other snake. Maybe its just to keep you guys away from the fish I actually went out last saturday for the first time since my kayak got a hole in it. I ghetto rigged it up with lots of duct tape and hot glue and she held all day. After screwing around at Belle Island all summer it was an amazing feeling to finally catch some nice fish. Hit only 3 fish but they were 2, 2.5, and my PB(that Ive weighed) of right near 3lbs. Nice fish! Went to pocahontas today hit 3 keepers and 4 dinks. 2-8, 1-15 and 1-1. Pics to come! Anyone interested for tomorrow (tues)? I'm loving my kayak =D

Bass Pro Shop Broken Rod
I had a bos extreme break and they gave me store credit, no questions asked. About Loomis and Croix rods, my friend snapped his after a week of owning his. He bought it from BPS and was told to claim the mfg warrenty, so I'm guessing it only extends to BPS rods or if you're just unsatisfied with the action or feel.

Swimbait Success!!.....Kinda
Nice cats! I need a rod to fish those big swim baits first as well as the baits themselves...I feel the bait monkey digging around in my wallet already! :'(

Hunting Run This Sunday!!!
same thing happened to me today at pocahontas state park. I was trying out my new hobie and pitching a tube into branches when a 3lb cat hit...All it wanted to do was stay down, felt like i was fighting a log that could dive, lol

Heya J, I'm on the fence right now on going, I really want to hit more smallies up though!

Best line for casting reel..for a beginner....
Fluoro is stiffer than mono in general and for the untrained thumb it tends to jump off the reel which can lead to some really deep birds nests. I'd recommend mono or braid.

Pony Pasture
Heya, water levels are down really low now so it's generally pretty safe. There are some deep spots that you might want to watch out for. Most of the better fishing is out in the middle area and bank fishing isn't so great. J and Rondef had luck fishing the deeper holes earlier in the summer, for me I've been targeting the current breaks, pools of calm water right next to swift current and some deep holes. Many small smallmouth here but larger fish around 1lb i feel are few and far between. If I hadn't of just gotten the kayak I'd probably be out there too =D

kaynoe...... good buy or not?
Nice setup Bassyak! Quick question...what's the purpose of the PVC piping that's almost parallel to the yak itself? rod holders?

My best day this year...
Amazing fish!! I need to go out and learn the deep structure too, I'm pretty weak there also, but the new kayak should help. Once again, awesome fish!

Who uses custom rods?
It's not a total lack of accountability, it's just padding for the little "just in case" and it's not free to replace a rod. Also, it's not that I "buy rods just for the warranty" it's that I stay away from rods without a replacement policy. Semantics? sure, but I take into account the quality/sensitivity of the rods also so the warranty is not the only thing I look at, all my rods are St. croix rods. Don't tell me that if you were to break a $400 rod you wouldn't wish you had a $50 replacement policy. Yes it was an accident, yes it was your fault, but would you take a $400 hit to accept accountability? I wouldn't and I'd have ~$350 to go towards another rod ;D

Lead Weights or Other?
I think it's worth it, I've heard that lead weights can be off by alot. For cheaper tungsten try ebay.
