  1. Jig/magget or jig and minnow would work well... I am not sure where you are from but people often catch steelhead and walleye at a river near me... Pick them up with rapala floaters, and jig and minnows... Might have a shot at a native muskie too!
  2. I got a solution.... Start fishing for these (caught wednesday) Or these (caught about 45 minutes ago ) Steelhead 7 1/2 lbs Walleye almost 9lbs Cant argue with that!
  3. Lake erie smallies.... Most smallmouth run anywhere from 3-6lbs in erie, 20lb tournament bags are not uncommon... Generally the smallies hang out near the islands, on the reefs, shallow flats, rocky piles, and bays... If you want to fish erie first piece of advice, DO NOT FISH CLEVELAND, there is not a healthy smallmouth population there... The Islands, is a great place to start anything from Catawaba to North Bass island is a great bet... Bays, both Put in bay and sandusky bay hold a excellent population of smallmouth. If you ever got sick of the brownies, you can hit the marinas and boat docks and load up on the green ones too. Reefs, potentiolly the best spot on lake erie and underated spot is Ruggles reef, located relativley near shore the Reef is right out of the Vermillion River. Both Huge populations of smallmouth and walleye reside there... Presque Island is another great place, its located on the east side of the state and I believe you need a PA license to fish it... T-rigged tubes, tubes dropshoted, goby imatations, x-raps, and pretty much anything else will get you a smallie... If you can get your hands on softcraws! DO IT! Larger Cities, one more time do not stay In cleveland.... If I were you I would stay in Port Clinton there is a ton of hotels there, and its a laid back community.. Thats were most of the charters and such are run in ohio so you could go there if you like... Theres also a ton of mom and pop shops and tons of stuff for you wife to do... I would say go in the spring and avoid the bugs, there can be a ton on erie... Other notable cities.... Huron, Sandusky, Vermillion, Lorain, and Toledo would be a great bet..... If you stay in toledo you can also fish the maumee river, which is internationally known for its walleye run in the spring... But the native smallmouth population in huge, and the rivers have a great top water smallie bite! Where ever you go have a great time, and catch some bronzebacks!
  4. Well trolling is illegal in tournaments up here... If you get caught, you are DQed... I am sure it would give you a lot of advantages... We were trolling for walleye at one lake, and we caught about 10 bass total trolling but no walleye. ;D There is one tournament I know of that you are allowed to troll in up here (because its an electric only lake), and the one boat that does trolls a crank and a buzzbait... And do well on the smallies.
  5. Avid, let me tell you! You probally have the best sense of humor in the world! What a great way to start the day, reading Avid's posts!
  6. Steelhead trout basically is a rainbow trout except they are not land locked... They make a run from a lake to a river or stream to spawn. And yes they get huge!
  7. I have been using spinning equipment... Jig and magget and minnows have been getting them in the clear water..
  8. Well its been a sub par week in ohio, I only pulled in 8 trout with the biggest only being 24.5", but here is a few pics on the action. This one was 24" This one was pretty small, only being 16.5" I just thought I would share what I have been up to lately since the weather got cold... I can really see why I could not wait for the fall to get here!
  9. HMMMM??? Looks like 2lbs even to me... Sorry that fish doesnt look that big at all to me... :-/

  14. Allright this was posted on another board yesterday
  15. Nice crappie! That thing is a tank!
  16. Donuts, bread, and wheaties.
  17. This is going to affect steelhead, channel cat, and rainbow trout in Ohio. Also minnows which doesnt affect us that much because of erie. I think the states are going to do something about but there is a petition going around.
  18. I love using strike king 3x folating works and jerk baits. It has such a great action, sometimes when the fish wont hit a popper, spook, or buzzbait I will throw these. Deadly in ponds.
  19. [quote author=avid link=1162138377/0#2 date=1162141261 Because people buy them at that price.
  20. I picked midwest because I do indeed live in ohio, but I would rather live here. Erie has some big football smallmouth thats for sure... Also the inland lakes have a lot of dinks but I have come accustomed to catching 12" fish, they are my dinks . Catching 10+ lbers seem sureal to me, I couldnt really amagine it.
  21. Well I caught a 24" and about a 26" in the last month and those are small for this time of year... :'( Yea I am talking about trout! ;D
  22. Nice video, enjoyed it! Now you talk about bad weather?? Tommorow lake erie forcasted 14-18 foot waves...
  23. I have caught them site fishing in about 6" of water. I have also caught them in about 24 fow off a roadbed.
  24. Steelhead! Crappies! Walleye! Cats!
