Lead free jigs
I love tying jigs. But Massachusetts has a law about using lead jigs under 1 ounce. any one know of lead free steelhead jigs. I like steelhead jigs better, no collar(easier to tie) and stronger hooks. Panfish jigs bend out and have a collar to hold plastic

New from Massachusetts!
Welcome. Lots of great fishing around. If you’re in Attleboro check out the Taunton river, there’s lots of cats there, I believe channels and whites as well as bullheads

Eastern Ma & New England Area Fishing Reports
Got out after work on the kayak. Hit I pond I’ve done well in the winter. Fairly deep, clear water, green weeds. Pond was 75% ice, but I still had to give it a shot. Started off fish a blade and drop shot, got a pickerel on the silver buddy. Nothing on the drop shot. Tied on a jig I tied, on lead free bass jigs freestyle ball head. Pickerel loved it. Few hits and 4 more fiesty fat healthy pickerel. I decided to look around for bass in a different area. Nothing. Cam back to the pickerel spot. Same jig. Started getting bass. 5 bass on my jigs. 2 different jigs. The freestyle ball head and the damiki head. Casting out letting on bottom. Slow reel and twitch got them. total was 5 bass and 5 pickerel.

Ned rig as drop shot weight.
Love catching cod fishing while fishing for mackerel on those rigs! I always use a metal jig on the bottom

How to tell if Pond/Lake has Big Bass.
Time on the water helps. Being in the local fishing community, clubs, meeting friends. Tournament results help. Fish brain. if you know of a spot that holds big fish. Look for creeks that run into other ponds. Chances are the surrounding ponds will have big fish. look up info about the pond. Forums or state pages help. Not just about bass fishing but look for bait fish species. Is the place stocked with other fish like trout or catfish? hope this helps

Pre-spawn & Water Temperatures
That makes sense. Ill Have to do some research, I know big stripers stop producing eggs when they hit a certain pond
-
Pre-spawn & Water Temperatures
What about the early spawners, the large fish That spawn earlier then the majority of bass. My buddy got an 8.9lbs largemout in Massachusetts Last April. It was spawned out. Now here in Ma spring temps are temperamental. Up and down. Majority of fish don’t spawn till May

Do You REALLY Enjoy Fishing?
I really do, even though it drives me crazy sometimes. I get a lot of enjoyment seeing other people, who don’t fish as much, getting fish. I love putting people on fish. The smiles and excitement. I also love the adventure of driving 2.5-7.5 hours, alone or with your buddies, just to go fishin and very well get skunked. Staying up all Night. Or fishing 18 hours straight. Being cold, or wet, or dead tired. I love the excitement of getting new species or getting PBs. Also being out side seeing nature at its finest. Birds chirping. Owls whoooing. Whales feeding. Snakes, frogs, mice. Saw my first elk in Co last month fly fishing in 5 degree weather at 12,000. Incredible even tho the fishing was tough. My first time in CO. Fishing is MUCH MORE, then catching fish.

Shad swimbait
A shad swim bait or shad colors still matches a lot of other bait fish, like shiners, white perch, chubs, suckers And fall fish. A shad shape , matches a sunfish and shiners , while the color matches the other species I mentioned

Yea he make great baits, I’ve got a bunh. The alewife, perch and shiner are my favorites. I have the mega shad, 10 inch trout and jumbo shiner. I got bit by a massive Pickerle on the 10 inch trout. I have a bunch of his baits as well. The forage trout and fall fish worth great as well. He just started making a chad tail and smal alewife

Things To Do During The Freeze
I try to get out in winter, even just a smidge of water. Try out new lures. i fish for many different species. So I tie steelhead jigs and bass jigs. Make new rigs for saltwater. Fix rods. Clean reels. lots of drinking. Hiking, skiing. I have a ton of ponds in my area. So some days I just get out and look for access even if it’s frozen
