  1. Snagged this in a local stream, any idea what it is, initially thought shad but no shad dot?

Smaller hooks could help. Sometimes we overhook.
  3. 15” is my bar as well. 12-14 inches ok, I didnt get skunked. 17-19 is when I really get excited.
  4. I have started playing with this stuff for quick jig head paintjons and it does dry fast
  5. If your setup is matched, regardless of hooksize, your hook should not bend. I think when people bend hooks on fish, it has more to do with approp setup than hook strength. What is the point of using a gaff if it wont get bit.
  6. Thats exactly what I think he did. A 1/16 in bit and a small eye screw would get it done. I guess what is the purpose though? Is it really necessary? I guess is he fishing it on its side?
  7. I dont really beleive matters a ton. Theres always that one off though. Most of the time i just use whatever i grab. Sometimes i will specifically use a contrasting color such as orange or yellow on purpose to change things up. Where i get picky about color is if im using a bare jig with a minnow for walleye and crappie. as for breaking off jigs. I make all my smalll jigs with a lil nasty on 8-15lb braid and an 8lb leader. The hook is sticky sharp and if i snag it i can bend it out. They bend back easily and retain a point. Not worried bout bending out a hook on a fish as im using a ml rod and lighter line. Keep my drag somewhat loose.
  8. I have an hmx for this purpose and so far i like it in med/fast. But a med xf or med.light xf would be nice. I have a 7’ med light xf cabelas fish eagle now but its not as fast as advertised. I dont feel like it loads up as well as it should with the small hair jigs i throw, but it does handle fish in current well.
  9. Im not saying that it should be a common practice, I’m just saying some people take it to an extreme level chastizing people that are in it for the food aspect. I do beleive in management in the form of catch and release or passing on immature bucks. The purpose of my post was to express that i was happy noone was being chastized for occasional harvest of bass to consume them. I do not in any way condone over-harvesting. I do get upset when I hear anyone is harvesting smallmouth from my small stream because i dont feel it can support it.
  10. Im glad no one is freaking out about this post, while advocate for catch and release of smallies in my small water bodies, i would never hold it against someone for harvesting something to eat w/in reason. it is very similar the harvesting small bucks debate. Yes from a management standpoint, young bucks should walk. But in the process we lose the sight of why we are out there, part of the enjoyment for many is harvesting and eating game. As long is it is done responsibly, its well within their rights.
  11. I would throw a marabou version in situations you would normally throw a ned or if you think they are on a leach bite.
  12. Never used trailers much on my spinnerbaits. Just hasn't been something I've done when chasing smallies. Mainly directed towards you river guys, do u add a trailer and if so, are there specific conditions you do it in. Whats your go to. I wouldnt throw a jig without one, but very rarely put one on my spinnerbaits.
  13. I have drilled them for years using 1/4-3/8 double willow and willow/ colorado baits. Cloud cover has been my main dictator for color. Also location. I have the most success burning in ripples
  14. Yeah, as voracious as those 2-4lb are. I would imagine they are doing 2-3 times the damage of a smallie. In my local home stream, northern are becoming prevelant in that range. Im also having a much harder time catching smallies. I really need to start keeping some as i have been often told they rank up with walleye.
  15. Having a devious sense of humor myself, it cracks me up. I kind of feel it was an attempt by him to remove some of the stuffyness the fly fishing purists bring to the table. He is clearly challenging the notion that you have to fish a size 20 fly to catch trout with those big flys.
  16. What are the weedguads
  17. None taken. But the only way to learn is to do.
  18. Its so funny (or sad). Im completely hobby right now, but every time i go to start a batch of something, i realize im going to be out of a material. At this point i have all my hooks and wires (thanks munkin) but now im going to need to order skirts and hair. Its alays something. Cant imagine the overhead you all deal with.
  19. Ok, so i took apart my lsf speed spool for a cleaning (sounded like crap) one of the pieces i took off though i dont remember how it came off. (Yes i know take your time and take pictures). The pictures show the pbushing and washers i cant figure out. The lews schematics arent very clear, mainly because i couldnt find find one for my specific reel. Any help would be appreciated.
  20. Ok, now thats life goals!
  21. Life goals Allen, Life goals
  22. Its not the mold cost that kills you, its how fast the hooks add up.
  23. I have tryed rattlecanning, but im not that talented. I went way too heavy with it and got runs. Sure it could be done though. I ended up buying a paint brush and cretex. That is working better for me, but im still learning.
  24. 3/8 preacher style jig and some wooly zonker leaches.
