Ned rig vs drop shot question
Likewise, to tqke it a step further my grandpa wouls always “swim” a 1.5 inch blue and white crappie tube always with a minnow or wax worm. Never threw anything else and it was the exact same concept as ned righing. Its amazing the size of fish he would piull out with that little bait. As a teenager i messed up a 10 pound northern and 10-12 lb channel cat with the net when he was using that rig.

Balsa crank
Went to 320, sealed with superglue and resanded. Ill have to try some sanding sealer next. I would like to find something that gives it a harder undercoat. I know balsa is soft, but not that soft

Balsa crank
First attempts with Balsa. Action is great and my paint job is ok. But i really struggled with sanding this thing smooth and it really shows under the paint. Any suggestions how to get a better finish. This particular block works out to a density of 0.1.

Marling Baits
Its because he knows he can sell them for that. Good for him. Last summer when i found his vids are when i decided to jump into hardbaits. I will say he has become more entertainment than substance. But he is very creative and takes a very fresh approach to lures. Zimmtex, Solar and engineered angler are other good hardbait content creators. if you really want to get into the physics of lure making and why baits do what. Being analytical, i absolutely being able to understand the why of lure action and design.

Spinnerbait hook choice
Thanks, EC is what i used on my first round and they did fine. Im leaning towards a smaller profile so i may end up going with them again.

Blade quality
Ive been playing around alittle bit to compare bait cost using different blade combos. I pulled all the prices off barlows and the qty was generally the smallest available (highest cost). This is what I came up with.

Spinnerbait hook choice
Thanks Allan. The black VMC’s seem to be about right size wise. I like that they go down to 1/0. I can do a really downsized presentation with those

Spinnerbait hook choice
I think thats my thing. I want something that is viewed as solid quality. Catching fisherman as well as catching fish. I also want bang for the buck. I really dont expect to make money off these, just want to recoup my cost and possibly alittle extra to put towards my addiction

Spinnerbait hook choice
EC Mustad, VMC AND Owner spinnerbait hooks all seem to be a relatively similar pricepoint. What is everyones preference and why. Im wanting to start making some lures to sell locally (hobby more than profit, not a business post either) so i want to provide baits that people will want. Lean 3/0 in 1/4 and 3/8. I like the idea of black nickel as there is alot of clear water and thinking the baits are going to be a more compact presentation.

Revenge Spinnerbaits
I wouldnt say they are cutting corners. This is from barlows for 30ft .033 wire. Identical price on barlows. Maybe its a supply issue? Alot of terminal tackle and components are hard to get right now. I made a bunch of baits this past summer with .033 brown ss. It is definitely a more rigid wire than reg ss. More difficult to bend and tune, but once you get it there it holds in place.

Victory hooks
I think im going to try 25 of the 30 degree. At half the price of mustad and vmc, worth a try
-
Victory hooks
I see on Barlows they have a new brand of hook called victory. Seem at the lower end of the price spectrum. Wonder if this is a good indicator of quality? Anyone have any experience with these.
