  1. Rolling deep depends on the chatterbait. I find that with some, especially with larger blades, it's harder to keep them at depth. I love Picasso Shockblade chatterbaits but have trouble keeping them deeper than about 5-6 feet. I really like the Jackhammer for staying deeper, but in all honesty if I'm going deeper than about 7-8 feet I just use a swim jig. I always use paddletails with my swim jigs and feel they give a lot of great action also. But keep in mind that sometimes it's the opposite of what makes sense. This morning I was fishing in a downpour with decent winds and figured it was perfect for chatterbaits, no bites. Switched to a swim jig/paddletail and had a great morning with it.
  2. I tend to use spinnerbaits only when the water is warmer and it's cloudy and windy but spinnerbaits are also NOT my confidence bait. I prefer chatterbaits in those same conditions as I have more confidence in them. I use swim jigs the most though, especially when I get tired of pulling weeds/grass off my chatterbait. In ultra clear water with little or no wind I always go with a natural colored swim jig though. If it's sunny a paddletail with metal flake in it, if it's not then no metal flake in it.
  3. This post reminds me of when I was a kid back in the 70's.......I'd go fishing and open up my tackle box and my plastics would be a big blob........lol. They've gotten better since then.
  4. My took a lot of hard work and time. My daughter and son in law had just bought a house in a suburban subdivision that has a 10 acre pond completely surrounded by houses. My youngest son and I went over to visit, purposely getting there early in order to see what kind of fish were in the pond. We get there and I decided to try a purple wacky rigged Senko. On my second cast something very big took it and I looked at my son and said, "Well, now we know there are catfish in here". As the submerged and still fighting hard fish swung towards the bank near my son he said, "Dad it's a bass" and I replied that he was crazy, there was no way there were bass as big as whatever was on the end of my line in this pond. I minute later I had my 8 pound 3 oz largemouth PB!
  5. Crankbaits followed by swimjigs with a Keitech paddletail.
  6. The magic is THAT they come with quality hooks..............lol That is the reason I switched to them from another brand.
  7. For light topwaters I use mainly a M/Moderate. For plastics I almost always use a MH/Fast mainly because of where I fish them.
  8. Spinnerbait or chatterbait depending on weather and weeds/grass Crankbait Jig Weightless or lightly weighted t-rig plastic Topwater
  9. I have some pad crashers that are going on 2 years old and I fish frogs a lot! I also had two pad crashers destroyed in 2 out of 3 casts catching stupid pike with them.
  10. When it's sunny I use flakes, when it's not I don't. Not very scientific on my part but it tends to work out. But..........I was just fishing with a buddy a few days ago and we were not doing well even though conditions said we should and we were fishing where the fish were supposed to be. We got a good laugh when I mentioned that the fish apparently don't read the same magazines and forums as us.
  11. bhite delight............ I always, always, always, use a chatterbait with chartreuse in the skirt as my first choice, I hardly ever have to go to a second choice. I use Keiteck 3.8 Fat Impacts for my trailer on chatters..........I've found that color doesn't really matter but whether or not they have flake does.
  12. I throw the 110 on a H/Fast but have used a MH/Fast. I throw the 75 on a MH/Fast I don't have the 90's.
  13. Swim Jig............Keitech Swimg Impact Fat 3.8 or 4.8 Chatterbait Same as above but 99% of the time it's the 3.8 Spinnerbait Same as above but sometimes a KVD Blade Minnow
  14. A Senko and a swimbait is a huge swing..........I use 30 lb braid for plastics, also for smaller swimbaits. I only have swimbaits up to an ounce so I can't comment on bigger ones. I use only braid, PowerPro and 832. I bring 6 rods and have 30 lb braid on 4, 20 pound braid on 1, and 65 pound braid on another.
  15. It depends on what you're throwing and where..................... Using it for a hollow body frog in thick weeds wouldn't be about as different an answer than using it for a squarebill as can be...........
  16. I don't use a shaky head much but I usually start with a jig. If I get no bites, or the bites are timid/non-committed I switch to a texas rig.. The other day I was fishing and it was very slow, I was using a swim jig/paddletail and got a couple bites but I barely realized a bass had hit it. So I switched to the same size/color of paddletail but on a weighted swimbait hook and started catching bass and they were hitting it much harder than the jig.
  17. I'm a St Croix addict and almost every rod on my kayak is an AvidX. That being said I now have a Brailist and absolutely love it with a Perfect Pitch on the way!
  18. Straight braid all the time...........
  19. I recently purchased my first Megabass rod, the Levante 2019. $199 and I absolutely love it. Most of my existing rods are St. Croix AvidX's and I'd put the Levante right with them.
  20. I do keep my chewed up stick baits for wacky rigging, but I don't have a wacky rig day unless that's what the bass are telling me they want.
  21. After years of water seeping in through that hole and soaking I'd say it'll take just about forever for it to dry through that same hole.
  22. I've had a pretty good start to the year but I'd have to go with crankbaits and jerkbaits. Biggest was on a spinnerbait though.
  23. I use 30 pound 832 for jerkbaits without issue. You line is too thin/light.
  24. I'd also go with the Tatula MH/Fast.
  25. Covering water with spinnerbaits, swim jigs, cranks, etc then yes. Pitching or casting to specific spots with plastics, also jigs, etc, no. When I fishing a flat that could have bass anywhere on it I'm casting long and looking for fish. When I'm fishing a blowdown, or a specific point, or a small underwater hump, no so much. But there are times when I'll cast well beyond my target to bring it past. So the short answer to whether long casts are needed is.................yes AND no............lol
