  1. If you're not casting around massive amounts of rip-rap or other large rock formations, AbrazX is a little overkill. InvizX is almost as abrasion resistant, but also quite a bit limper...search around for the best price (Psst: Fleet Farm) Some will say Tatsu as it's the best of both worlds, but the price puts a lot of people off. Second choice - Yo-Zuri Hybrid - I have that on my crank-bait rig and my #3 MH/F rig for general use. In either case - don't forget the KVD L&L...it really helps.
  2. Oh you had to go and remind me, didn't you. Bad Sean!
  3. Another option is Woo! insert free weights https://www.omniafishing.com/p/woo-tungsten-painted-flipping-weight
  4. I don't let slack get in the line when hook-setting with jigs. I feel the 'tug', I heave back. 14# mono should be enough to get a good hook-set...if you want to make doubly sure...set it again. And make sure those hooks are sharp...
  5. The Penn II Fierce is a decent reel - I'm with @ironbjorn...get the Fury.
  6. I'm still in the top 20...any prizes for that? Happy that my two Minnesota boys did well - and Seth is still holding a good lead in AOY standings.
  7. My old standby trailer is a Pit Boss - whether jig, chatterbait or spinnerbait.
  8. Ya - my Minnesota boys are showing off their northern skills.
  9. One thing to note - the weights of chatterbaits and spinnerbaits printed on the package are JUST for the lead-head. Add in the hook, blades, skirt, etc and a 1/2oz lure is actually closer to 5/8-11/16 total. Now add in a trailer that can be as much as 1/3oz, and that "1/2oz lure" is now around 1oz total.
  10. KVD LFS Casting Reel in 8.3:1 - 35IPT - dual braking system (magnetic and centrifugal). $140...but currently out of stock at almost everywhere.
  11. ^ What Sean said - you got the rigs to cover just about any technique short of large swimbaits. Don't be afraid to experiment with different combos - a reel that works so-so on one rod might be near perfect on another.
  12. I put oval or teardrop split rings on all my treble lures and use the same knot I use for everything else.
  13. So that's how all your 3# brownies look like they're 8#ers, eh?
  14. If you're holding it vertical (tail down), unless it's a hawg it should be alright. Even the little ones I support if holding horizontal...like my profile pic which is a 3.94# fish.
  15. Go a little up from that $180 and you CAN get a killer rig I just perused a site that I can't mention - in their used area is a Pflueger Patriarch 7.1:1 for $110 and a St Croix Bass-X 7'4" MH/MF for $80 - so $190
  16. I had to get myself back together - loosing a 'best friend' is hard. I feel for you Andy...and yes, you never forget them It's been 20 years since I lost my Sara, and I still miss her.
  17. The old Johnson 40hp I had on my runabout was the same way...no power tilt/trim. The locking pin that holds the motor in up-tilt mode also locks it down...to prevent the motor from swinging up if you're in reverse. The pin should shear if you hit an obstacle...I just made sure to never test that.
  18. Boat I had - the winch-strap was long enough to pull the boat all the way up...no motor needed to get the boat on the trailer.
  19. Let's see 10 30 59 30 59 Ewww....
  20. I'm of the opinion that as long as it doesn't affect the performance - my reels can have all the boat/rock rash they can handle...shows me I actually use it instead of staring at it.
  21. Same here - and they come in a variety of styles...regular, Neko, off-set worm...there's one for each type of bait I use on a DS.
  22. I think @Glenn's putting all that up cause with the heat he's been getting, reading and watching vids is about all he can do....kind of like deep winter.

  24. Also, there's a limit to how many times you can cycle (charge-discharge-charge) a battery. Lead-acid batteries run in the 500-1000 cycle range where-as Lithium batteries run in the 3000-5000 cycle range. Depending on how often you discharge-recharge your batteries, 10 years or more isn't out of the question with Lithium One other advantage of Lithium batteries is operational capacity. Batteries can be 'drawn down' to a certain level without affecting their recharge. For lead-acid, this is around 50% - so a lead-acid battery rated at 100AH, you have around 50AH of 'usable' capacity. Lithiums, on the other hand, can be drawn down to 10% or less without affecting their operation, so a 100AH lithum has 90AH+ of usable capacity...in fact, they recommend you draw it down to zero occasionally to extend the life. Note that lead-acid refers to wet-cell, AGM and Gel-cell batteries...those are just different technologies to contain the acid component.
