  1. Being fairly new to the sport I would love to rent rod reels for the weekend/week and really be able to get a feel for the different powers/actions that would really help someone like me decide on wich brands I liked over others. Sorry about the grammar in that
  2. Derek1 posted a topic in Fishing Reports
just pulled up to my favorite pond. It’s gonna be 43 out and sunny, just wanted to get out for a couple hours in the sun for a change. The pond is completely skimmed over with ice wasn’t expecting that lol. Off to find another one.
  3. I think the new Berkley’s is called squarebull
  4. I don’t know if it matters but if you start by putting the hook through the bait in the center of the nose the bait will be more centered with the weight.
  5. Great fish man
  6. The Shimano nasci is $99. I have the 2500 series on a 6’6” and really like it. It’s a great real for the money.
  7. Thats a real nice ending to that story.
  8. ^^ no doubt lol. You might not be able to handle what you get with a better reel.
  9. Alright sorry about the rambling lol. Thanks for clearing that up guys I didn’t realize I was that off base. I guess I’ll have to think a little more on what I want out of my next set up. I have time, thanks again.
  10. Ok I thought square bills were crankbaits and some stuff I’ve read and watched Led to mod/fast for walking baits. I thought that was the general idea for treble hooked lures. Honestly I thought all square bills, lipless, wakebaits and things like that we’re all considered Crankbaits. I didn’t think I was rambling on just trying to ask a question with the most info I can provide. Sorry if me thinking they were all kind of the same catagory made my whole thread not make any sense.
  11. I feel like I should also add that I’m a bank fisherman. So I really don’t see me carrying more then three rods. First one has to be mh/f casting and I feel second should be my spinning rod for now cause some spots are just to tight for me to effectively use casting gear. The third spot will be for this rod and in the future others to choose from. I need to stay under 7’ and really that’s pushing it in some spots.
  12. Thanks for the input. Reading this was leading me to believe that a mod/fast action would be good for walking baits and ok for cranks. I’m not sure if it makes sence that I’m trying to stay a little more generalized to have something good to use while giving myself time to collect more bait specific gear.
  13. Good morning everyone. I have been thinking for for a couple weeks on how to best ask this question. Some of you may know from other post that I only have two quality setups right now because I just started getting serious this past June. I have decent m/h fast with a currado k and a decent m/f spinning with a nasci. My plan is to add one quality setup to my arsenal each season. That being said my faverate baits to throw are my walking baits and popmax, also squire bills. So I’m bassicly looking Ford a quality setup for those next. As I don’t have allot of those baits yet I’m not looking for any specific weight ranges at this time, but I would like to get something with the widest range possible for now so I’m not so limited while starting to collect tackle. I can start to collect more bait specific outfits after I have a few basic setups to help me learn my style and type of feel I like as I don’t know that yet. I was maybe thinking a Dobyns Fr 705cb, but have also been looking at some quantum stuff and the champion line. My biggest decision is the reel as I said I have a currado k. I would like to try offerings from other brands of the same price point/ quality level. Or I might just go currado again because I like it. Then I won’t know if I like the feel of something else better. Anyway this is getting long. Those are my thoughts and questions. Would like to put my budget probably $300-350 I guess. Hope this all makes sense as I been reading old posts and looking on line for months now and I’m really no closer to a actuall decision. I would appreciate any advice or experience in this catogory. Thanks if you read this whole post.
  14. Don’t have any advice for you just wanted to say good luck. Oh and I’m wicked jealous.
  15. That’s what I’m not sure of. At the time I had one of the cheap Kmart spring scales with pounds on one side and kilos on the other. It was dark and I was using my phone as a light and I was pretty excited I may have read the wrong side or just read the scale wrong idk. Either way I’ll never know, I know this. The next day I got a digital scale.
  16. Thanks for all the input guys.
  17. Since your probably casting a little shorter anyway can’t you tighten up the spool tension. Seems like that would help allot.
  18. Great story al I’m haunted by my broken scale saying this fish weighed 2.75. It’s definitly my pb and no idea what it really weighed. I know it’s not a giant but it my biggest. It was 22” long and thick and healthy. I’m haunted by my broken scale saying this fish weighed 2.75. It’s definitly my pb and no idea what it really weighed. 19. Someone that works there also told me the 20th
  20. Good for you, I’m hopping to pick one up for next spring. Or one of the other makes. They seem like they will be perfect for the little ponds and lakes I like.
  21. I don’t have much, so 2 rods and a backpack will go in the basement. Hopefully 3 setups and a few more 3600’s full of goodies come out. I plan on telling her they’ve been breeding down there all winter.
  22. Never used them but I like it. It’s a pretty heavy bait.
  23. I went on a little trip up to a lake north of me where a freind has a camp this past summer. I was so excited to get out on a boat and fish some bigger water. It was like my second week using a bait caster, bought two new jackhammers for the trip. I forgot to re adjust the breaks from the senco I was throwing at first and made a cast with the first jackhammer got a backlash, snap there goes my new jackhammer off into the sunrise. Tied the next one on, I was so bent outa shape guess what I forgot to do again. Made a cast, snap there goes the other one. I was to inexperienced to change baits without adjusting spool tension. Two new $20 baits gone in the first hour on the water. Not to mention the time to pick out two serious backlashes. Boy was I sad lol. Ended up being a rough morning and a great day once I got over it. Don’t know how this relates but as soon as I read your post it’s the first thing I thought of.
