  1. I used the dobyns fury 705cb graphite for a full season for sqbills, jerks, and topwaters. At first it seemed to have a hard time getting a good hookset, it felt a bit dead, rubbery and uninspiring but when I switched from mono to braid it became a whole new animal, I found with braid it obviously became more sensitive but it now had the power to fish spinnerbaits and swimjigs on it as well. All in all I found it a fun and versatile little value of a rod (with braid). I wound up selling it though and got a champion series 705cb.
  2. Shout out to Japanlureshop! Received mine today. How is it that they can deliver from Japan to my doorstep in 72 hours yet I rarely receive orders from U.S. retailers in less than a week? Got a nice little surprise included as well! The lure was a gift I did not order, now that’s how to earn a loyal customer, U.S. stores could learn a thing or two from the Japanese about customer appreciation.
  3. Seems like a good knot but not the real gt knot.
  4. Starting out where I'm at right now would be the obvious answer, who wouldn't want to fast track decades of evolution? The problem with that is you'd rob yourself of the experiences and knowledge you gained from the struggles and experimentation it took to evolve from beginner to more advanced. A first year angler with an nrx in hand has no idea what he's holding or how it's different from a $30 ugly stick because he has no perspective or point of reference.
  5. Prefer cone style, holds really well and allows you to remove a plastic with minimal damage for re-use, sharp barbs are more or less one and done on plastics, prefer lead over wire, rips less.
  6. Yep the 80, 15,900 yen, converted to usd is $133.56, after shipping it was $157 and change. https://japanlureshop.com/daiwa-22-tatula-tw-80.html
  7. Pulled the trigger today, was leaning towards the alphas 800 for my next reel but that $133 japanlureshop price got me, hope it's as good as my 100. I don't get the hate on the tats, my 100 may be the best casting reel I own, maybe I just got a "good one" (aka oil and grease included), the best part is I got it used on an ebay auction for $77, winning!
  8. Been chucking one along side the og and lc1.5, the one thing that stood out to me about the chick magnet is how slow it rises on a pause, very slow as opposed to the lc1.5 which floats very fast, og slightly slower, also the og runs deeper than both, could be the difference some days, nice to have choices.
  9. Been a long search for this one, finally got my hands on a golden swimbaits gremlin wake, amazing finish.
  10. They are very nice, ergonomics are top notch, had mine out a few times so far, got it dialed in after a few short trips, was out bank beating and bombing jerks and traps significantly further than a guy with a spinning outfit just down the bank from me yesterday, I think I impressed both of us from a few looks he gave me haha, no drag tests yet though, distance smokes what I can squeeze out of my daiwa sv's. Seems to me that they like a fair bit of spool tension, was running three pins and very low on the brake around 1-2.
  11. Any users out there? Looking to pick up a 7'3" jiggin n riggin rod and their SI bass series 734c caught my eye, just wondering how the taper is and how they stack up at the $300 price point. The blanks say "Handcrafted in Woodland, WA USA" on them, anyone know if the actual blanks are made in the US?
  12. @DangerfieldIf you google "mend-it glue drying up" (include the quotation marks) you'll find a thread on a website I'm not sure we can mention here that has homemade mend-it recipe, I've yet to try it myself.
  13. One of the best definitions I've ever come across in the context of fishing was written by Rich Zaleski: "The cumulative effect of the subdued, subtle, slow, simple and seductive aspects of certain artificial lure presentations used to catch stubborn, finicky, spooky and/or inactive bass."
  14. Been out to the fox river several times now, no sign of life so far, need a good rain to get things cookin'.
  15. Similar in shape but very different action wise, relatively speaking. I find the flange on the cut-r-worm tail gives it a more aggressive thump compared to a cut tail which is more of a slow wag.
  16. Thanks for that link, wasn’t aware this line’s been around 15 years. The 40% tested reduction in wet abrasion resistance is concerning, think I’ll pass trying this one.
  17. Bps flyer shows they’ll be doing a bogo next week. Any users out there? Thoughts on stiffness, handling, abrasion resistance etc.? Been reading lots of glowing reviews, but always suspect, back in the day trilene fluoro has a bad rep.
  18. Dobyns 7 foot crankbait rods works great for me but I'm taller than most. I run the 705cb with 40lb braid for 3/4oz or lighter lures. For bigger stuff 3/4oz on up to 1.5oz the 706cb with mono works a charm. Sounds like you want something shorter now though, I think any 6'6" medium heavy/fast will do what you want, go with the brand your'e familiar with.

No single best time, wakebaits can be used most of the year, just gotta adapt a little. I catch fish right after ice out into mid-spring on manns minus 1's cranking them moderately fast to a straight burn, flats areas are best this time of year on my lakes. Approaching spawn I break out larger two piece wakes and rats and do well on those through summer into late fall with a generally slower pace right down to a painstakingly slow crawl. The slower approach works best for me shallow (less than 5')... weedlines/points, inside or out, pockets, banks, docks, moored boats, hard structure in general.
  20. Haven’t fished it yet but I think it’s going to be a winner, the first thing I noticed is it’s got a very sharp hook with a significantly bigger gap than the sleepers, the weedguard seems to fold away better than I anticipated. Looks like an improvement on the original to me, can’t wait to find out, only several weeks away from ice out here!
  21. Latest haul... Keitech 3.8's, berkley 3/4oz agent e's, deps cover scat & bull flat, a couple 5/16 evergreen chibi finesse swimjigs (swimjig is one of my top confidence lures so I'm looking forward to using these a lot), sufix 14lb siege, some fin-tech title shots, megabass lbo in gilliko, 2 duo realis unicorns er I mean 120sp's in ghost gill, netbait t-macs in okeechobee craw and black grape, rage ned cut-r-worm (killer finesse swimjig trailer), 1/2oz booyah covert.
  22. I once owned the s waver in light trout but I have since sold it due to how similar the color was to the bluegill, the base color on the gill is almost identical with the addition of side bars and a darker back, but they have basically the same high visibility presence in the water.
  23. Spinning open water sparse weeds 7’ m/f daiwa kage, tatula 3000 10# ygk soul braid, 8# sniper leader Baitcast docks laydowns pitching 7’ m/f st croix avid x, curado 71 mgl 8# cxx (12# diameter/strength)
