  1. Are these known to wear out on K's? I always assumed the worm gear itself would go first given its plastic.
  2. Are you matching crankbait running depth to water? When I start collecting algae and muck I usually go to a shallower crankbait and fish it just off the bottom.
  3. Your only negative is weight. All other things equal, bigger spool = better casting distance and less line twist. I prefer 4000 size myself. Now depending on what you're using the reel for, you may FEEL more line twist with ultragreen than with braid.
  4. I haven't but I will tell you that as a child there's nothing I wanted more than a ronco rotisserie cooker. That informercial would come on right after the Saturday morning cartoons and boy did it work on me as a child.
  5. Never a bad time to change red label! jk it should be fine ... just give it the ol kvd line and lure treatment
  6. I'm sure we'll get into a "they don't own the land thing" but "technically" its the state's land. They aren't telling people when they can and can't catch a fish, they are telling them when they can and can't catch a fish on their land ... don't like their schedule? fish private waters
  7. He travels to us from the future to tell of great deals and this is how you repay him?!
  8. Thats exactly who ill blame!
  9. Academy also has fairly steep discounts on Shimano reels about once a year (20% last year) but also does not advertise. They are also typically a week after their "big fishing sale".
  10. Yeah I doubt anyone is getting close to Shakespeare or Zebco's numbers.
  11. 100% handle should move. I suggested checking that because I know when it first happened to me, it caught me so off guard that I didn't even notice any movement in the handle.
  12. It does sound like AR bearing. Try to lightly slap the handle backwards repeatedly with the handle at different angles. If it slips at any point its your AR bearing. In my experience when AR bearings go bad they do what you're describing.
  13. What does your retrieve look like? because it sounds like you may be reeling in slack line or holding the rod tip high with slack line. Braid shouldn't be digging into itself with only the pressure of the lure being retrieved and I can only see that happening if the coils on the spool are loose to begin with.
  14. The drag system is the issue. With only 1 metal washer and 1 drag washer your drag knob likely doesn't have much room for travel. You can lube the drag and improve it, but really there is no fixing this, the design IS the issue. Still, it seems like a solid reel and definitely fishable IMO
  15. Well then ... grease her up and you should be good! I assumed micro meant micro but apparently thats about a 2500 size reel.
  16. I was out jig fishing this morning and after I worked the jig through my spot, I quickly reeled it in to get it back to me. As I pulled it out of the water, a nice bass jumped out which made me wonder if I'd be better of fishing it all the way back. So my question is. Do most of you guys work it target to boat/shore or do you work your spot and quickly reel in to get it out again?
  17. This is a micro spinning reel. He probably has a felt drag. Those take oil, not grease.
  18. The 2 lb bass making the line feel like it will break could be the result of higher drag at start up which smoothening the drag will help solve.
  19. When I tried ordering carbon drag washers a while back I was told the smaller reels needed a custom size and was quoted around $30 by smoothdrag.
  20. I'm guessing it has felt and metal washers? I would start by polishing the washers which should give you easier start up. Also use a quality oil on the felt. I'm not saying it's right, but for a smooth drag (probably with less total drag though) I like a small amount of hot sauce oil. The other option is swapping the washers to carbon but last I quoted for a small reel it was more expensive than the reel itself.
  21. A good number of us look through these and enjoy the stupid responses ... anything other than argument is a worthwhile contribution around here
  22. 2 and 2 with external adjustments here also except when throwing deep cranks ill bump down to 1
  23. Right but that knot is being tied with the thicker of the lines, something that never happens with the FG.
