  1. Sent me a free Tshirt due to a long response time to my email. Theyre great.
  2. Mr. Crappie ... just replace every outing at that price
  3. I bank fish but am able to throw deep cranks (16-20ft) due to the slope of the quarry I fish so take that for what its worth. Anyhow, as I've mentioned before, the big difference for me is that I feel like sensitivity is increased with the slower reel. Personally once I hit bottom I slow down and crawl the crank as opposed to others who burn it through, and a slower reel helps me react to changes in bottom contour quicker. As mentioned above with modern cranks its more about personal preference. The only deep crank I have that pulls a bit much for a 6 ratio is the Hot Lips Express.
  4. My stuff is midrange for the most part and Im good with that but Ive recently felt the need to try high end lines.
  5. If there's that many bluegill around im usually switching to a small swimbait or a crankbait. Bluegill dont seem to strike those at all.
  6. Maybe my eyes are failing but the OPs gap still looks about double everyone else's
  7. Drag grease only on drag washers. My understanding is that using regular (i think its hydrocarbon?) grease reduces your maximum drag and may make it lose smoothness. Its also near impossible to clean it off completely.
  8. Never realized it helped keep it snug but good to know. I carry a birthday candle to use on fly rod ferrules for ease of removal.
  9. Sorry to hear about your loss. I got to do some surf fishing last week and also forgot to check that connection after chunking some 3oz weights ... top half went flying. Luckily it came back in after what seemed like forever reeling in.
  10. If its anything like the Shimano Spheros, the aluminum colored sleeve screws onto the shaft counterclockwise. Once thats screwed in then the handle can screw all the way in.
  11. Its on top of the dryer for me ... the heat helps stuff loosen nicely too
  12. Yeah as stated above normal bass rods should hold up fine. If you want saltwater specific though, Star rods stellar series is good as is Tica's dolphin series.
  13. If you can somehow steal the tackle while not stealing it? When you read a pdf of a book the reseller still keeps their physical copy and can still read it, sell it, or do whatever they want with it. An online copy is intellectual theft which hurts the creator (if they still have the ability to profit from their ideas) ... in the case of knowing bass, the creator has no way of profiting anymore.
  14. Yeah there's always someone trying to make a buck. I stupidly almost paid $60 for the in pursuit of giant bass book on the auction site until i realized lunker city is selling new copies for $20.
  15. The link to the pdf copy is readily available online. I personally read a gray market pdf copy or whatever you want to call it. The way I see it, it's not costing the publisher/author any money at this point ... the only people missing out on $ are the 3rd party resellers.
  16. I know im gonna get some heat for this but Knowing Bass has to be one of the most overrated books in my opinion. I think that a lot of its mystique deals with how difficult it is to get a copy. The book reads largely like a textbook on sunfish (book itself says things arent bass specific in some sections) and does not really make any reference to angling itself beyond telling you how fish in a controlled environment reacted to different stimuli. Personally I'll take good ol spoonplugging or in pursuit of giant bass instead.
  17. Who knows. But I know that every once in a while a specimen comes through that is such an outlier its hard to believe. We're lucky we have secretariat on film or someone somewhere would be asking if it was really 31 lengths.
  18. If you are only using the rods/reels during trout season and haven't dunked them I would probably just spray down the outside with KVD line and lure and cover them up.
  19. Agree, this does not appear to be a shim issue but a spooling one.
  20. Brand new, spinning. If youve used spincast reels before, the transition to baitcaster might be easier. I know for me it was easier than going to spinning simply because the mechanics were more similar.
  21. From what I was able to find its a legit site that sells counterfeit items ... at least when it comes to watches and purses that they sell. No personal experience but personally I would stay away.
  22. Its probably the paddle becoming worn, not the rivet loosening.
  23. Used to carry a rod spooled with YZH copoly in the back of the truck. Stayed there all the time including Texas heat > 100*. Kept it under the rear seat. Never any issues. I think UV is the primary killer of lines, not heat.
  24. Line spooled on loosely. Probably a result of the light weight lure not being able to put enough pull on the line to wind it in tightly. What lb test and weight lure are you using?
  25. You mentioned an ABU so it sounds like longevity is your MAIN concern. If that's the case then go tried and proven and get a couple of Curado B's which will probably outlive your grandchildren.
