How was your summer bass fishing experience?
Can be summed up with four words: Few and far between.

Best grass jig on the market
When the grass is heavy, for my money's it's the GameChanger Trashmaster: https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/GameChanger_Lures_Trashmaster_Jigs/descpage-GCLTJ.html

Skipping?
I have a Dobyns Champion XP (DC 610-4C) with a Lew's Pro SP Skipping & Pitching, 20# Sunline Sniper FC and a Mobster swim jig that is my dedicated skipping outfit. The reel made dialing in my technique simple.

"Staple" Colors You Have No Faith In
In South Louisiana and the Atchafalaya Basin it is normally varying shades of brown, muddy with sediment, with visibility in inches rather than feet. The bayous in particular are muddy, the Bayou Teche near my house is the color of cafe a' lait. You can sometimes see a tannic tint in some bodies of water that are a little clearer, due perhaps to myriad cypress trees dropping needles and seed balls.

Over The Top
My first big bass came in the late seventies by dragging a black plastic worm on a Johnson's Silver Minnow over lily pads on the edge of a small Florida lake. If you're not seeing any action, you may be fishing the wrong pads. Isolated pads adjacent to more open water may prove more productive than a huge field of pads. Neither a bass or pike expert here, but sometimes fish can be elusive and it often takes more than one aspect of the environment (such as the presence of lilly pads) to hold fish.

"Staple" Colors You Have No Faith In
I have the exact opposite experience here in South Louisiana where "clear" when it comes to water is a relative concept. In particular, sapphire blue in t-rigged craws or, especially, sapphire blue worms on a shaky head are my go to and among my top producers.

"The Leash" Outboard Motor Tether
According to Dave Mercer in his podcast and interview with Wes Logan, it may have saved Logan's life in a serious boat accident in Lake Champlain. The motor leash he used comes from Precision Sonar: they make great products and are a good company to deal with in my experience.

Alligator in West Michigan lake?
Just a tip here from real gator country: you want to attract a small gator, cast out a buzzbait...works every time 😁

Just curious
When I travel to fish I will usually fish two days in a row, one day at a time for local lakes. In summer heat and humidity in Louisiana I can do 7 daytime hours for two days in a row, covered in performance clothing for sun protection. But at 71, I definitely need some recovery days from that kind of exertion. The flesh may be weaker, but with enough determination, nearly anything can be possible. 😉 I am nearly always sitting down and that makes it possible. But I try to limit leaning forward to see graphs because that hammers some bad discs in my back. Sometimes a pain pill is called for, but I believe in better living through chemistry. 😁 After each day of a two day fishing trip I will sleep about 10 hours which helps recovery from inflammation.

Alligator sighting in Lake Erie
It will be moving pretty slow come wintertime. Maybe it's a snow bird, er...snow reptile in this case. 😉

Lifepo4 battery upgrade
This happened to me (with a conventional battery and charger) and I was lucky to come out to the driveway and see the fire before it totally melded the gas tank. By the time repairs were complete my $4000 G3 had become a $8,000 G3. Personally, now, even with a 5 amp per bank charger, I will never leave it connected to power overnight.

Is Dobyns rods out of business?
As I mentioned, good so far, and the two employees I dealt with had a positive attitude, the one via email did have a new gsm email address.

Is Dobyns rods out of business?
Definitely still in business. Had no problem reaching them about ten days ago regarding replacement of a broken rod (my fault). Sent in the part of the rod blank with the logo and less than a week later they called for my cc#. Had the rod in hand two days later. Same great customer service I've always received. 👍

Man, I Cant Catch A Bass On _______
Man, they work for me on nearly every outing, often when nothing else will...a confidence bait that is in the running if not leading my total catch rate. Second has to be a shaky head, followed by various flavors of crankbait. I'd say I can't catch a cold with a frog (one blow up) or with a wacky rig (did catch one casting to it on the bank after seeing it on FFS). I seldom throw a frog but I keep casting a wacky rig waiting for it to produce...waiting, waiting. Never caught anything on a fluke but I'm ready to give 'em another try. Never caught anything on a drop shot so now I usually throw a shaky head or hover bait instead. Interesting to see what various members offer as unproductive baits...just reinforces my idea that any bait can be a confidence bait for someone and that all baits can produce under the right circumstances.

Different Method of Landing Fish
No reason for me not to net any fish too big to boat flip, no matter what lure I used. When I release a big bass I always support the bass with a belly hold, sometimes against the side of the boat for a big one, until it recovers equilibrium to freely swim away.

Rainwater collection - anyone do it?
We have a big rain barrel catching water which cascades off the back patio roof. Wife uses the water for plants. We put some ditch minnows in there to eat the mosquito larvae. It's fun to watch them when we sprinkle goldfish grub on the surface for their supplemental feeding. Minnow topwater action. 😉

Looking for best braid value
Same here: grates on my nerves. Sufix 832 in hi-vis green is my favorite, Seagar Smackdown gray in heavier versions gets used as well.

MyBaitShop.com sells vintage lures: you might check their site to see what you have is selling for. The site owner also buys vintage lures.

Shimano Reel Help
Not an Shimano expert but I can say with certainty that, personally, the Chronarch is what I buy for my best rods, the Curado 70 or 150 MGLs for the others. I consider all of them great value at their price points. No reason not to love the MGL as they will cast effortlessly cast 1/4 - 1 1/2 oz. on the right rod in my experience, but for 1/8 lures I consider that BFS territory and personally turn to the Curado BFS and lighter weight rods. A Chronarch on a Dobyns Champion Extreme 736 is easily my longest casting rod with a 1/2 ounce Jackhammer.

Latest Catch Pics Thread
Down in South Louisiana they are called grunnel, bowfin or choupique. They fool me every time into thinking I'm about to land a PB bass 😉👍
