  1. Shaky head was my biggest producer yesterday, as it often is. Medium spinning rod, 20# braid to a 10# leader now, though I used to use straight 10# flouro (Sunline Sniper is the only flouro I use). I would suggest going to a 10# leader (I just use remainder of my filling spools) and switching to a Palomar knot. I reduced my knot problems to almost zero when I finally gave up on the improved cinch for flouro. Also on spinning gear use jigs with thinner hooks (I use Owner shaky heads IIRC) so you don't need to jack 'em hard. Tight lines and good luck ?
  2. Hope so. Taking my new camping rig to the north state park Monday for an overnight. Plan to do a little bank fishin' while I'm there.
  3. Thanks Glenn. Nice to see a reminder of how to downsize, and avoid decision paralysis resulting from too many lures and techniques jockeying for position in my overwhelmed mind. ?
  4. Well explained JediAmoeba ?
  5. Don't know if this will help but I also rig mine from the side, but use a nail weight inserted in the chin. Swims straight if I keep the retrieve on the slower side of moderate ??
  6. My limit is about 1 1/2 hr drive and that's the reason I haven't fished Toledo Bend yet. But that will change now that my new camping van has finally been delivered (after over a year and a half on order). After my mods are finished, TB here I come ??
  7. Since I have a smaller boat with only a central rod locker, I installed mine right of bow centerline on the deck below the riser mount for my two Helix 10s.
  8. My condolences, despite their all too short lives, they make a outsized imprint on our hearts. From one dog lover to another, I think about the dogs I have shared my life with almost everyday, and miss them all. I'll bet you do too.
  9. Even 30 mph...ask me how I know ??
  10. Taste preferences are a very individual thing and I've often heard that sage grouse are inedible. It's probably a good thing that sage grouse (the prairie bomber) seem to have a bad rap for the table since their numbers are decreasing due to habitat loss. But on my trips out west I've eaten my fair share and find they are most similar, to me, to beef. I usually grill or stir fry, but the key is not to overcook the rich red meat. I like 'em just fine. Never had goose but a buddy who hunts them says the breast meat (which to the eye resembles sage grouse) is delicious when marinated overnight in Italian dressing. We've all had beef overcooked to inedibility: some game meat is the same ?.
  11. It is prime fishing season for most of us MK users south of the Mason-Dixon line ?
  12. Never had a problem with Minn Kota on either technical service or for repairs. They've spent plenty of time with me when I was out on the water whenever I had problems sorting out settings, etc. Repairs typically shipped out the day after they receive the stuff I've managed to break on cypress stumps, etc.
  13. Wise words we all should live by. Facing life's challenges with bravery and grace is key to a live well lived. Thank you for sharing your inspiring story, may you both be blessed.
  14. Not to be argumentative by none of the firearms I own, including .308s, 12 gauges. .357 magnum and hot 10mm, will "pink mist" a jackrabbit, even at close range. They ain't that scrawny ?
  15. I use electronics to find fish activity and to keep from getting lost...if I'm in the boat, rest assured they are on. Like Catt said, "Every second spent in unproductive water is time spent practicing casting" and I don't need more casting practice. ??
  16. Definitely a good deal but I find I buy from Omnia only occasionally. Some brands I often buy aren't stocked or out of stock.
  17. Don't use mono anymore except on ultralight gear, but when I do Trilene XL is my choice. It seems accurate on breaking strength to me, even my older spools. Steve Zodiac, perhaps you simply have an old/poorly stored/bad spool.
  18. Any particular standout color(s)?
  19. Wise words to live by in grizzly country: no one can outrun a grizzly, but you can out climb one if a nearby tree has some low limbs. Black bears are good climbers, mature grizzlies aren't: their long fore claws are made for digging, not climbing.
  20. Gun Scrubber, polymer safe version.
  21. This...a real turn-off ☹️?
  22. I like the flexibility offered by using the individual stones of the Lansky knife sharpening system in hand.
  23. Give me a Speed Craw or Trick worm in Sapphire Blue and I'm confident I will boat a fish ??
  24. You must be my brother from a different mother ??
