  1. Have two of these on m/h f rods and rarely backlash . Spool is set so the side to side play is just barely gone and I use 30pound braid so I leave it at the appropriate setting and works perfect. Now I do have to thumb is right before it hits the water like any other baitcaster .
  2. I have one on a Denali mh-f 7ft rod, 30lb sufix 832 braid , set the spool with just a tad of side play and in setting 2 for braid. No back lashes at all and no matter what lure I throw. But I will say you have to thumb it just as it hits the water just like any other baitcast reel. I think the one issue is everyone thinks these reels will make you a perfect baitcast user and always error free.... which is not the case at all. I’d definitely practice on the casting technique.
  3. Ordered some items last Sunday, all in stock and then a shipping label created but still not sent out. So they still must be running behind on some orders.
  4. You can go to Walmart and purchase a nice fishing rod and reel and catch fish all day long .... but then you order up a nice daiwa reel and fancy rod and go catch fish all day as well, but after that you won’t wana fish the cheap setup. Smoother , lighter, better working components etc
  5. One of the best if not the best at customer service. ive them called before and they shipped parts out right away for free.
  6. Big Lews fan here and have more then 10 of their rod and reels but after trying shimano and daiwa reels, I prefer daiwa over lews. 3 tatula sv tw reels and a shimano slx dc plus a curado k all with ceramic bearings etc feel and cast better then any of my lews reels . I feel with shimano or daiwa you get a better reel for the money.
  7. Daiwa tatula sv tw. 199$ and a Denali attax mf fast tip 120$. The daiwa for sure and will give you less trouble with casting etc then any other reel aside the shimano dc lineup.
  8. Is necessary actually. Especially with braid, plenty of videos on YouTube about this as well . Whopper plopper even fished slow will roll and if the tail stops from any debris, the whole thing will roll as you bring it in and with braid it will ruin it . Hence why a swivel is a good solution to this.
  9. If you’re using braid then definitely use a quality swivel !
  10. Lews carbon fire- has Winn grip lews tp1 - has Winn grip denali attax series of rods - Winn grip and can be ordered through dicks with free shipping. Find a coupon and you can get them cheaper
  11. 30 pound sufix 832 braid on all 10 baitcasters I use and rarely have a issue with them, a lot of times it’s more user error then anything... I will use a mono leader for treble hook lures. turn up the brakes a little until you’re use to the braid.
  12. Never had a issue with baby brush hogs but the flukes are a different story.. they could really use a better packaging for those so they aren’t bent and smashed. Boil some water and dip them in and they are straight but that’s not something I should have to be doing. But they catch fish and I still buy them .
  13. Have a couple graphite reels from a name brand company that are mid range price $140 ish .... had one bend the tabs that go into the reel seat which then put the spool in a slight bind. Called the company and they said they’ve never heard of such a thing and after looking at pictures they sent out a new reel frame right away. Since then, no more graphite reels for me. Maybe a odd thing but I’ll spend more for a better quality reel. Oh and all I did was land a decent size bass on its second outing.
  14. Lews makes handles that fit and have the Winn grips. If you want to get fancy, they have a carbon fiber one too. Tackle warehouse sells them too. Direct fit. https://www.academy.com/shop/pdp/lews-custom-95-mm-aluminum-handle-winn-knob-kit#repChildCatid=6901002
  15. If you’re using braid then definitely need a good ball bearing swivel. I use the split ring to a swivel and line to to that. Never had any issues and doesn’t ruin my braid either.
  16. I must be the lucky one ?‍♂️ I’ve ordered many rods from dicks sporting goods over the last year or so, all of mine came in a proper tube aside one! I which was in the card board box and luckily arrived ok. Two last month were Denali attax rods and came each in their own tube.
  17. its not my favorite thing to fish but it works and works well for catching fish, so no need to give up on it. and for anyone getting snags, you should try the weedless ned versions!
  18. lews carbon rods are always on sale at dicks sporting goods. right now they are $60 with free shipping. for the price you cannot beat those rods and they have the winn grips
  19. a more expensive option but works wonderful is get a shimano dc reel. slx or curado k.. you can skip all day long with no issues with one of those reels! and when you arent skipping, they do everything else quite well too. i have the slx dc and often skip under trees and docks with no issues at all. like you, i can skip a with a spinning reel easily but not a regular baitcast reel.
  20. lews tp-1 is in your price range. plus it has the winn grips
  21. strike king- prices have gotten a bit to high, especially recently with the price increase on all their baits and lures shimano slx reels- great value for what you are getting i think. slx dc and xt versions lews carbon fire rods- for $60.00 these rods are very good and even come with winn grips acadet h20 lures are another good value as well as some of the bass pro shop branded lures.
  22. the new hedge hog pic remover has a stainless insert that is threaded, stripping it wont be a issue and if you are cranking on it that tight, then something is wrong. the pliers in that case would instantly bend the pool pin as ive seen several times. either way we all have our on way and opinion of doing things to get the same end result.
  23. if you call lews, they can hook you up with some spare pins... they sent me some. and the new hedge hog pin remover is better then the first version. the threads shouldnt be a issue now. well thats what i was told anyways.
  24. ive got a couple private ponds and two quarries to fish! wont be missing out on the spring time bass fishing.
  25. buy the right tool and its a simple job to replace the bearing. the plier style pin removers i dont recommend because they can still bend the pin if its stuck, which alot of lews spool pins are in tight. if you want a good tool quick, i would say get the hedgehog studio bearing pin remover. ive been using one with no issues and works perfect every time. link to where to order one. https://tackletrap.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=898_2351&products_id=6465
