  1. I've got a 7ft medium mod fast lightning rod and its d**n nice for $40. I've thrown poppers, small spooks, squarebills,1\4oz lipless and even 1\4oz-3\8oz chatter baits on it and its handled them all very well. I caught a 6lb largemouth with it on a chatterbait no issues.
  2. For you guys and gals that routinely target channel cats what are your favorite rods? Looking to add another catfish combo as I've been targeting them often as of late and I'm really enjoying it. For reference my local cats usually top out at 6-8lbs ..channels anyway.
  3. To me the most effective way to gather shad hands down is the cast net method...I've done it for years for catfish bait. As for craws I've always caught them in my minnow trap. Never targeted them but have caught alot nonetheless. You may also be able to research online and see what colors of crawfish are common in your area and match jigs accordingly. Oh and thanks for the reminder...I need to net some shad for tomorrow mornings catfish expedition.
  4. Its like in the Ben Affleck movie the town...he says to Jeremy Renners character " I need your help. I can't tell you what it is, you can never ask me about it and we are gonna hurt some people". Renner responds " whose car we gonna take?".
  5. Agreed. I've always heard if you wanna know who you true friends are ask them to help you move. I asked a good friend today would you help me next weekend move some furniture... He said you bet ill bring my truck and a pile of ratchet straps. That's a real friend.
  6. So as I age I seem to have less and less Friends but I find the relationships I choose to keep are much deeper and more rewarding. What brings this to mind is I got an invite from my oldest friend today...I haven't seen him in a few years and they are throwing a bday party for his moms 60th so he wants me stop by and surprise her. His mom is like a 2nd mom to me and although we haven't seen each other in a long time I know we won't miss a beat. This topic has been discussed on here in the past and as I get older I find that this trend spills over to alot of areas of my life. Quality over quantity. Better whiskey instead of more. Better cuts of steak instead of 3 cheap ones in its place. Guess I finally know what my parents always said about relishing the finer things in life.
  7. So I don't throw big baits enough to know. There are several baits that consistently catch my biggest bass...namely spinnerbaits and jigs. Most important thing in catching the biggest bass in your body of water in my mind is timing...colder water and cruddy conditions i.e. prespawn and fall...rainy or overcast and breezy have produced probably 90% of my biggest bass. All that said my PB of 8.75lbs came on a 2in crappie twister.
  8. I've always been a fan...brings a big shot of personality into an otherwise business forward by the books type of job. He can be serious tho and I appreciate that...his tribute to Aaron Martens is moving.
  9. I'm much more of an October guy...bass are eating...leaves are pretty...and Halloween is my favorite day of the year.
  10. I'm confused...wind and solar power are myths? Meaning they aren't real?
  11. One of the biggest bass I've ever caught was caught out of a pressured public body of water in the middle of summer on a spinnerbait. While it normally wouldn't be my first choice I brought it along because it was a confidence bait for me and it paid off. Spinnerbaits are big fish baits IMO...under the right circumstances that is.
  12. Am I a safe bet fisherman? Well I shore fish from ice out til ice up on ponds that alot of guys ***** there aren't any bass in. So no...I'm not a safe bet guy
  13. As a guy that's shoveled lots of snow ill say he likely never considered that..it is not much fun.
  14. I've seen all but eyes without a face...only thing I know by that name is the Billy Idol song I'm also 39 and I'm really starting to get into the old movies...can't explain it but something just clicked one day. that is one thing I've always loved about Tarantinos movies...they are extremely heavy and reliant on dialogue. Its harsher and more rough than old movies but he really goes all in on it.
  15. No...but im.down with OPP if that counts.
  16. Well the first step is recognizing where your inadequacy lies so good on you! I don't have alot on my bucket list as of now- I'm not a big traveler. We moved a ton when I was a kid...I'm talking like 8 times by 6th grade. So that kind of took the wandering gene out of me. One thing I'd like to do is rent a beach cabin or cottage on the Texas coast somewhere down around Rockport or Aransas Pass for a week or two during winter. Not so much for fishing as much as nostalgia, warmer weather to break up my winter and seafood. My girlfriend has never seen salt water.
  17. Starting to get into these finally...when I was younger I didn't "get it".. but as I've aged I've come to appreciate the style and class of these older films. I'm talking 1960s and down. Last 6 months I've watched a bunch of Hitchcock's films...the third man..and tonight I'm watching the Maltese falcon. So far I've enjoyed all of it. I've seen countless old westerns in my life but I'm really not a fan. More into the horror\ mystery\ thriller who done it type stuff. Any recommendations?
  18. I've got like 5 packs of summer craw menaces and haven't noticed much color variation
  19. It happens...anybody that claims it hasn't happened to them is either lying or...............they aren't telling the truth. Early and late season up here in the north it happens fairly regular. Have learned some tricks and techniques over the years to make it happen less often.
  20. I bought an ark rod a couple years back on a whim and have added 3 more since. Been very impressed with them for the price.
  21. My mom did it growing up...I've never done it
  22. Heard an interviewer ask him one time: how much have you lost gambling? Daly thinks for a few seconds and casually says: oh I think around 50 million. Pretty sure I saw the second the interviewers sh$% hit his boxers.
  23. Some are crawdads some are crawmoms....otherwise we would have no babies.
  24. Agreed. If everybody said to hell with it I'm not buying a new car the dealership would be begging people to buy them...they would knock $5k-10k off sticker price and offer all kinds of freebee stuff.
