Is there a thing as new old school? That's what I'm aiming for. Stuff I saw guys using when I was a kid in the 80s and 90s.

Gotcha...yeah I'm afraid its been colder here. There's a lake 35 miles north of me my buddies have been panfishing...they put the boat in fairly recently and I think the water was like 46...and it hasn't been overly warm since then.

I like that blade configuration

I've had some success on a yo yo type retrieve similar to hopping a lipless but I've always had much better luck slow rolling a chatterbait just fast enough to get the blade going...similar to fishing a spinner bait in cold water. I'd also like to add that a subtle trailer that doesn't have an overpowering action does better for me than something like a paddle tail that has alot of thump. My best 2 trailers the past couple years have been a big bite baits swimon and the 4in regular zoom fluke.

Now don't get me wrong I love all my fancy new lures, rods and reels as much as the next guy...but part of me has thought about what it would be like going old school. Here's what I would do: 2-7ft medhvy fast lightning rods casting with Abu Garcia C3 5500s loaded with 15lb big game. Only baits I'd carry for those- spinnerbait, buzzbait, jig and craw and stuff for Texas rigged lizards and worms. 1-7ft medium moderate fast lightning rod spinning with a daiwa tournament ss 1300 with 8lb trilene xl. Only baits I'd carry are 1\8oz ball heads with 3in white twisters, zoom finesse worms, rebel pop r's and shad raps. Get me a 3 tray Plano tackle box with a bottle of classic bass baitmate attractant and a pair of old rusty a$% pliers in the bottom. Obviously I don't plan on doing this anytime soon if ever...but I gotta be honest there is some appeal to it. Pairing down to bare essentials would force a guy to really get good at techniques and capitalize on bites as there would be very few others options. Also I can't imagine how dialed into a setup I'd get having on 3 in the arsenal 2 of which are identical. Yeah its not fancy or glamorous but I bet I'd still figure out how to catch some bass!

Excellent rod. I was actually using my lancer pro today in that model throwing jigs...that is a helluva nice rod. Tackle warehouse actually has them on sale right now for $80...that's a steal.

Ended up going back out for about 2 hrs and got 2 little dudes on a finesse flipping jig with a baby dbomb trailer. 3 bass on a windy rainy cold day...ill take it.

Well I got out this morning for 3hrs and im.even more confused. Temp is around 55 and we've had steady rain off and on...no big downpours no lightning since last night. About 5 cast in with a spinner bait I got slammed by a 3.5lb largemouth in about 10in of water. Then me and my buddy got skunked for the next 2hrs and 55 minutes. We threw spinnerbait, t rig beaver bait and worm, several iterations of lipless, several iterations of Ned rig, chatterbaits...hell I even threw a small popper and a floating rapala twitched slow on top since my fish was so shallow. Never could find em or figure em out.

Where abouts in Iowa? I'm in the northwest corner of the state

The weather report calls for rain tomorrow...we have slightly stained water ..and I'd guess the water temp is 50-52. What you throwing?

My old Falcon Bucoo trap casters...I have 2. I use them for walking baits, buzzbaits, lipless, square bills,light chatterbaits and smaller spinnerbaits.

I live about 50 miles south of Sioux falls and can concur that it has been stupid windy. Last Saturday we had 40mph winds with gusts up close to 60...it sucks.

I've watched all of it..ive really enjoyed it. Mike gets a bad rap for being loud and crazy but I've always found there is more to him than just that. He's always been one of my favorites.

I agree that this is a good plan but I guess I'm not super concerned about this yet since all I'm doing is some therapy and stretching. Had he said something radical like surgery or injections I'd get several opinions. He's not doing any actual adjusting just therapy. My best friends mom is a physical therapist and what hes suggesting is much like what she has suggested. Agreed. Just because they don't have an M.D degree doesn't mean they don't have any medical knowledge or training. I think my guy has 4 years of schooling then he studied under a guy before opening his own office. He's been doing this like 20+ years and treated thousands of patients..so I trust him. If he thinks he can't help me he will send me to a specialist...he did that with my sister. She tried physical therapy and it didn't work so she tried chiropractic care...after several treatments he recommended a spinal specialist and said I won't continue to hurt you.

So late last fall I wrote a post talking about my back pain after fishing so I thought I'd give an update. I thought I had it whipped but it came screaming back with a vengeance no pun intended. So today I went in to see my chiropractor... I know everybody has an opinion about chiropractors some people love them some hate them...but its always helped me. I've gone to the same guy for 17 years and he's always been honest with me if he can help or not. This morning I ended up getting a very sharp stabbing pain across my lower back where it basically locked up and I couldn't walk. A very extreme spasm. I told him my lingering symptoms and he told me that without even doing an X-Ray or MRI he's confident in saying I have a ruptured or herniated disc in my back. So we did some inversion therapy and electro therapy to take pressure off everything and loosen me up a bit. He also gave me some basic stretches he wants me to do several times a day to keep everything stretched so my nerve doesn't get pinched again. Obviously this all kinda freaked me out to say the least even tho I know its very common. But he made me feel better when he said he's dealt with hundreds of patients with these exact issues in the last 20+ years and he thinks we will be able to turn it around. My buddy Brian has a really bad disc in his back and my chiropractor was able to help him tremendously- so that eases my mind some. The plan for now is do the stretches, keep going on my diet to get additional weight off (down 26lbs since Christmas), therapy a few more times, he wants me to do some walking a couple times a day if possible and when I'm feeling up to it he's gonna give me a list of core exercises to do everyday to strengthen back up. Now that sounds like a long list but all told its like an hour a day total time and that is better than dealing with even 1 minute of the pain I had this morning. The last part of this story and the most hopeful part comes from his receptionist \ assistant a gal I he known for 20 years. When she was in her late 20s she suffered from 2 herniated discs in her lower back. Her uncle was a chiropractor and told her either get your weight down and do core exercises daily or your going down a road of a life of pain and surgeries. She said his words scared the s#$% out of her so she started eating better and excercising. She is now in her 50s and to this day her back has held up and she's never had to have surgery.

Maybe you should drive a few hours south!

We have a roku tv and a fire stick on a different tv...my opinion is they are very comparable.
