Im a chatterbait fan and a huge spinner bait fan...now that that's out of the way ill say the past 3 years a swim jig has out fished them combined by alot. They are designed to come thru grass and they are great at that. There's something about the subtlety of a swim jig that just gets bites...don't know how to explain it..they just get bit. My favorite trailer is a rage menace rigged vertical.

This right here. Lots of good stuff out there from $40 all the way up to..well whatever you want to spend. Most of my stuff...rods and reels..are in the $100-$150 range now days but for year I had a cheap eagle claw spinning rod and an ugly stik as my only two bass rods and I caught plenty of fish. I think you buy what you can afford and justify spending. P.S. the newest iteration of Berkley lightning rods are maybe the best version yet..they are dang nice for $40. If I was on a tight budget i could buy 3 casting and 2 spinning models...throw black maxes on the casters and revros's on the spinners and catch plenty of fish. That's 5 combos to cover most anything I need to do for a total of after tax under $500.

This time of year I have 4 or 5 things that normally produce: a finesse jig with a small chunk trailer, a jerkbait, Ned rig, Texas rigged finesse worm( this ones new to me in cold water) and a lipless fished like a blade bait. Chatter bait or spinner bait are also worth a shot.

I've got a buddy...my best friend Brian...who I've known for 15+ years that gives me a hug almost every time we see each other. We've been thru alot of crap together so there is alot of love and respect there. I've noticed as I've aged my friendship numbers have dwindled but the quality of those relationships that are left have improved significantly. Who cares about having 50 friends when you can have 5 that really mean something to you.

I've been with my gal for coming up on 11 years. The first couple years she went with me all the time, both open water and thru the ice. Once the newness of fishing wore off since it isn't her thing she got burned out. She fishes maybe 1 or 2 times a year...but its not uncommon for her to come hang out and read a book. She has expressed interest this year in trying to catch a big one..either spring or fall..so we will see what happens.

We ordered a new industrial size air compressor about 9 months ago. First they thought it would be delivered End of Oct.or early November...then it was January...it showed up at my plant 2 weeks ago. Icing on the cake: the service technician they sent to install and commission it was a jack@#$.

Who is the goat? The shortlist in my opinion would include Clunn, KVD maybe Larry Nixon. If Jacob Wheeler is able to maintain his current pace he will pass those guys...some people believe he already has. I think he has years of consistency ahead of him before I'd consider him the GOAT...but can't deny that since KVD he is the most dominant guy hands down. An even more interesting topic in my opinion is who is the best to never win a super bowl.caliber tourney-Forrest wood cup or Classic. That in my estimation comes down to 2 guys- Roland Martin and Aaron Martens. I believe I'd give that edge to Martens.

Congrats man...things are turning around for ya! I got out last weekend for about 6 hours and managed 2 dinks. But after 3 months of ice lock down I was just happy to hit open water..the fish were a bonus.

But Pepperidge farm isn't gonna keep it to Pepperidge farm self free of charge...maybe you go out and buy some of these distinctive milano cookies.

If there's no way to make a living...than don't do it. I'm not a materialistic person and agree that money isn't everything and happiness in your job is important....but the reality of it is you need at least enough to put a roof over your head and food in your stomach. I just don't like people that constantly complain about a situation but do nothing to improve it.

My issue with pro fisherman is they are always in videos and articles whining about how hard it is to make a living. Not all of them but a large number of them. Randy Blaukat does it about every other video. If its that tough here's a novel idea...get a real job like regular people. I would not want to be one of "those" guys.

I've had the meat a few times and its actually pretty good. Its a much meatier texture than most fresh water fish...closer in my estimation to something like mahi mahi.

My grandfather has a heart attack when I was in my early teens and another bad one when I was in my early 20s...ill be 39 this year and he just has his 91st bday last month. Be careful and follow the docs advice and you should have many good years of ripping lips ahead of you.

I'm pretty fortunate in that I don't suffer from mental health issues..not saying I don't get bummed out a little but nothing like your dealing with. My girlfriend however has mild depression and also pretty severe social anxiety. I just try my best to be encouraging, understanding and supportive. People do give her crap about being so shy and introverted saying dumb stuff like just have fun and don't worry about what other people think...great advice unless your actually the one dealing with it. I've heard her say until you live in my head you should shut your mouth because you don't know what its like.

A couple years ago I had a barn burner of a day in fall on a buzzbait...water temp couldn't have been much over 50. Most people would say that's too cold for topwater..especially a moving topwater...myself included up until that point. That was the biggest 5 bass bag I've ever caught.

Gonna say...meanwhile in my world we are only a week past ice out...water temps maybe 40...its 33 and raining with a 30mph north wind
