  1. Big deal for me also. When I found out that I could mark waypoints on Sideview the lightbulbs started going off. Still need to get better at detecting bottom composition.
  2. @Deleted account knows everything. It's his biggest secret. He'd be a pro but then everybody else in the field would be relegated to handing out french fries.
  3. I almost wanted to start a thread asking how much it really helps. Very obviously, one part of me yells "yes it helps!" and I am sure that is the side of reason, but the other more creative side of me wants to believe that it's not really a big deal. I believe there are stats on some of the more popular big bass lakes that prove my creative side wrong, but that side of me persists. My method is when I am ready to start fishing a piece of structure, I turn my electronics off. At that point I tell myself I've seen what I need to see, and that the sound of sonar underwater is only hurting me. Maybe it'd be different if I had some sort of more advanced technology but with my simple unit, I see and look around and then shut it off while fishing.
  4. Oh yeah I got sonar and seen school after school pass underneath me at Badin. I upgraded my unit over the summer to one that has mapping and that was HUGE for me to start to learn to fish offshore structure more than I normally do with some mild success. I look forward to doing it again and learning more about it; structure fishing was addicting
  5. Thanks. Asking for later. I am not going to be in a kayak for a while still probably but hoping I can get out sometime in fall or early winter. Maybe it'll be the same in the fall, that they are easy to see in the water. I dunno. Still fished ponds way more than I've fished large lakes. Thanks I just kinda wanna catch a shad in a spot and be able to look at it and see what that little pretty critter is all about and then have an idea of what I am looking at. Yeah there's pictures online but I dunno, figured I wanna see the real thing
  6. I'd never heard of stonerollers, thanks. I am not looking to collect shad for baiting. Simply looking to analyze their size at a location and try to figure out where threadfin versus gizzards are located.
  7. I assumed it was not possible to throw a cast net from a kayak but the YouTube university says it is possible so if that is case, feel I should be looking at throwing cast nets. I learned to throw one standing a while back but imagine throwing one from a kayak is quite challenging.
  8. I got mine from Digitaka and members here recommended. Difference between JDM and US is the JDM comes with duralumin gears, not brass. US comes with brass. Wish I researched this before purchasing but it will be a good experiment using duralumin gears for me regardless…. Believe JDM might also come with a smaller handle? Not sure about this one. I bought 5 gear ratio JDM Zillion with the intent to try it for spinnerbaits and if don’t like it, some lighter moving baits perhaps. However, with the aluminum base gears, a reel like that does not seem to be meant for power fishing techniques/heavy line/heavy fish/heavy rods. Daiwa explained in selling the two versions that they chose Japanese version to have lighter gears because generally Japanese anglers fishing lighter tackle for lighter fish and they also get a significant weight reduction in the reel by using duralumin. I am looking forward to testing the reel but am afraid that 5 gear ratio and meant for lighter tackle is a bit contradictory for me. Darn bait monkey. Who knows I might be pleased though
  9. That looks very nice thank you sir
  10. This I do, learned from the YouTube video I watched This I do not do, but sounds like a good idea. The video recommended to me that I use very cold milk and butter but this is a nice idea to keep the ingredients colder. Thank you!
  11. I've been fishing the Big Piney river on occasion for smallies and really like it. The area from the Slabtown bridge access to Ross access is a smallmouth conservation area with tight regulations on what fish you can keep... think it is something like only 1 and it has to be at least 15 or 17 inches... something like that. Quick search on google maps shows that there might be a couple campgrounds where you could possibly park your rv surrounding the slabtown bridge access, but as I have never been to these campgrounds personally, can't say. I bring up the Big Piney because I'm not exactly a smallmouth expert but it seems like they are everywhere on that river. I haven't been skunked fishing it. It also offers opportunity for great size smallmouth. Some areas near springs hold trout also.
  12. When you posted the photo of your champion spinnerbait I noticed immediately how much it resembled a perch.... probably about the right length too. That orange highlight on the head is awesome. .... Maybe don't worry about my spinnerbait suggestion... i think you are pretty well dialed in
  13. Hey ya'll, Wondering about effective methods and lures to catch threadfin and gizzard shad without the use of a cast net and also wondering about good ways to know what crawfish look like in your lake. Can you trap crawfish or something? I don't know much about them.
  14. You are a wealth of information sir
  15. Hey ya’ll, So I recently ordered a rather large order of spinnerbait making materials and am looking forward to it arriving. Fall, Winter, Spring is spinnerbait season for me so I stocked up. I am looking to tie my own rubber skirts on and include some accents in the skirt for a little added flash and color. Curious what material and color you like to accent your spinnerbaits with. I’ll be working with a white round rubber base and I did get some holographic Flashbou for some accent… not sure if that is the best material to use but it looked nice so I got various colors. Finally do you prefer to accent a specific side of the skirt I.e bottom, top, sides and will braided line be an effective thread? Thank you!
  16. POV: you are CrashVector fishing

Thanks! Hoping for a mild winter. We will see. That’s pretty sick! Should post up some of your creations in the Lure Making Forums.

I can’t say that I am familiar with chair brands. I used to game some, and then I sold my soul to the fishing monkey. No room for gaming anymore. Although I do play chess pretty frequently nowadays, specially cuz I can’t (shouldnt?) fish at the moment. Have an injury that I’m still trying to heal.
  19. [Removed] Cuz I don’t know what I am talking about
  20. Prayers for y’all A-Jay. Y’all are tough and cannot myself imagine living for 22 years battling a condition. But we’re here for y’all ??
  21. Yes but knowing me I would want Jackhammers. The first chatterbaits I bought were Jackhammers. I lost all but one doing stuff that made them way too easy to snag. I don’t even know where the last one is and it looks like it’s been through hell. Never bought em again ?. They caught fish! But I fell in love with SBs and I like never lose those things so I like their efficiency.
  22. That’s disgusting by the way No, I do not think you would see me there at 3.
  23. LOL. I am glad I do not have to contend with the bladed jig bait monkey in addition to the spinnerbait monkey. If I fished Menderchuck I am sure I would have no choice but to abide by monkey’s wishes and throw those devils. as I recall you’ve caught some very impressive green bass on those things
  24. I had to ask @FishTank about this but apparently the wire on the end of this bait is welded shut, meaning you have an inability to change the front blade unless you snip the wire short, and it is short already. Certainly a great looking bait but why put yourself in handcuffs being unable to change something about such a customizable bait?
  25. A-Jay right now Edit: Leave the man be though! He's found his gems and everyone can find their own Menderchuck + I know that if I was on Lake Menderchuck I could not do what A-Jay does.
