  1. Looking for another option for footwear for one who has to step in the water before and after each trip. I primarily fish from a canoe and I'm guessing those who kayak are the same where you at least step in the water getting in and out of the boat most of the time. I currently use a cheap pair of rubber boots that have got to go. There's nothing quite like wearing rubber bots all day in the 90 degree sun. Some of the put ins have a muck bottom so something like flip flops won't cut it.

Took out my grand son today, @ 17 he had never caught a fish. Put a single hook #2 Mepps on a light spinning rod and he caught somewhere around 20, 1/2 LM. 1/2 blue gills. Can't beat a Mepps when you just plain want to catch fish.
  3. FWIW... I've used Interstate and Walmart's Everstart. I'd avoid the Everstarts, not that they didn't do what they were supposed to, just that I needed to add water much more often then the Interstates. Got a few year longer out of the Interstates too. These were in my RV's.
  4. I'm retired living on a fixed income and use no gas for either boat. Still, at $30 for the usual 2 hr round trip @ $4 I may well divert to a pond half as far if it starts to hurt. Of course the bass are half the size so maybe not. Maybe I'll just stop cutting the lawn and use the gas in the truck.
  5. A lithium gives you longer run time at full power, something like 85%, then does a SLA which drops down in voltage as time goes by. The bad part being you don't know you're about to run out of power, till you do. FWIW, I have a 55lb Minn Kota on my Raider, I use a 100Ah lithium. A normal 4 or 5 hour day of fishing for me and I use less then 10% of that or 10 Ah, I don't move around a whole heck of a lot. Just a guess, but I think a 54Ah would suffice. I had no idea how much juice I'd use so I went bigger. With a 30lb motor and a 54Ah lithium, you could run at full power for about 90 minutes.
  6. The firs started maybe 3 weeks ago, just starting to coat the cars. Hasn't started billowing off the pines as yet.
  7. Google says we have northern copperheads and timber rattlers, never seen the copperheads but ran across the rattler blocking the trail in the Taconic Mts on the MA/NY border. That's the only poisonous snake we've come across in 50 years of hiking.
  8. I fish ponds, pretty much exclusively. By June they are getting weed choked, most fishermen are gone to where the fishing is easier, weedless is a must. Soft plastics, the more action the better, for me it's mostly craws in white, chartreuse, or green pumpkin, weights from none to 1/4 oz. Once in a while spinnerbaits with a trailer, plain gold Mepps if I'm bored and there is a clear spot, or even a gold Johnson spoon with trailer, especially in beaver channels. I'll try anything I can get through the weeds but usually fall back on the plastic craws.
  9. I use amber, good in low light, roughly 30 min before sun up, indoors, and even for foggy days. Acceptable in all but the brightest light, wish at times I had darker in bright sun reflecting off the snow. 2 pair would be nice but wrap around progressives are pricey for something you have to replace every few years.
  10. Since you didn't specify type, my favorite is my Shimano Vanford in 3000. It's also the most I've spent on one so that may taint my opinion. I thought my Stradic's were smooth till I got this one. Maybe the Stardic's are getting worn.
  11. Personally, I'd want to talk to the girls and the new schools head coach, if either don't want you there you could be miserable. I don't understand the need to have an answer by Monday.

Can't argue with bent spinners being the cause of my line twist. I straighten mine, as well as I can with one pair of pliers, but who knows how long I use them before I notice they are bent. In my case I'd guess most of the damage is self inflicted as I use pliers to remove them. It's difficult to be careful removing a treble from a squirming pickerel.

Changed a #1 silver and a #2 gold Mepps as my biggest beef is the hassle of using with treble hooks. Took them out today, I did feel a higher number of bumps then I recall with trebles, but also a decent number of hookups. This might get me to use them more then I have been.
  14. I bought a rod for my grandson a couple weeks ago, it was a split grip. I've tried it for myself on my last 2 outings by myself, don't care for the feel while casting at all. Maybe I'd get used to it if I stuck with it, but why bother, been a long time since I worried about looking cool.
  15. Sorry to hear about Tucker, losing a pet is tough.

They used to be my goto but as I get better with other lures that have a better chance for big bass I spend less time with them. I use 0-3's with braid on L and L/M spinning gear. I get too much line twist on mono, even with swivels.
  17. Need a bridge net https://www.basspro.com/shop/en/frabill-bridge-and-pier-net?hvarAID=shopping_googleproductextensions&ds_e=GOOGLE&ds_c=Shop|BPS|TopPerformers|Fishing&gclsrc=ds I see them in use at the ocean.
  18. As one who's never used a gopro, or any other video camera, what do you do with all the video's?
  19. Has anyone tried a robomower? More manufacturers like Husqvarna are turning them out. Be fun to try, for a mere $2k, but you need a small yard. They need one you can drive from a game boy.
  20. A wild guess for the last 50 or so years is $30k. Currently I spend roughly $300 a year for rods, reels, tackle, and lures.
  21. I too like having a nice yard and don't mind at all doing yard work, especially since I retired and have time to do whatever needs doing. Just so happens my 20 yo tractor's deck is shot so I ordered what is likely to be my last mower this afternoon, a Bad Boy Zero Turn. Be interesting to see how much I run over with it.
  22. Power Pro moss green, 10 and 15 lb., haven't had a reason to try anything else.
  23. I've eaten 3 bass, roughly 20 years ago. My 1st 1 lb'er, 1st 2 lb'er, and the 1st 3 lb'er. Decided it wasn't worth the effort and mess to clean them as opposed to buying a pound of salmon at the market. Don't have a problem if others keep them as long as they follow the rules. It does tick me off when I see the guys on TV with a cooler full of anything they can catch.
  24. I thought of that after I posted, different world from when I worked.
