  1. I think you’ll be happy with the Simms, if they fit.
  2. Typically 4-6 hours on the water. My common drive is around an hour each way so 6 to 8 hours is my “fishing” day”.
  3. Yes, one of the dozens of pocket knives. Usually a Benchmade Immunity.
  4. Agreed, especially in a spinning reel. You’ll only gain less dollars in your wallet.
  5. That’s why he’s the chauffeur.
  6. Anyone need a ride?
  7. I take max three rods, one spinner/two casters along with my creek walking sling bag and a slim assortment of baits. Usually it’s family so if I need an odd bait they’ll have plenty to share, but rarely does that happen as I fish my go-to rigs. If live bait fishing I just bring my two piece, 10 crappie foot rod A small soft side 6 pack cooler with some snacks and a few gatorade drinks. I hate to impose!
  8. I’ve quit buying baits,,,,,well, except for Siebert Outdoors jigs and my favorite plastics, worms, creature baits and tubes. But after recently breaking a rod I sent it to DVT for repair and had to have a substitute so ordered a new Edge rod. While waiting for it to come in ordered two additional rods. Of course needing reels for them bought two Vanfords and picking up a new Bantam. But I’ve sworn off the bait monkey. Honest!
  9. Favorite Fall toy? Osage Orange apple!
  10. We had a similar group years ago. Sadly now most have passed away and the couple that are left have moved away. It’s not the destination, it’s the time with friends,,,the fishing ‘ La Familia. Enjoy it while you can. Good fishing!
  11. No logo clothing for me, I’m a Brundlfly kind of guy. I’m long torso’ed so have to order pants in “slim” and shirts in “large tall” to fit. My Wife wears the TW free shirts.
  12. Glade this thread is still going and relevant! For various reasons I haven’t fished but sparingly in the last couple years. I will say I have been skunked on the last few outings and have had very little success so far this Spring. Coming from a bass boat and downsized to my canoe with four rod holders, which is exactly what I’m trying to carry has been challenging. So far I'm stuck at five rigs just because I have dedicated swim jig and Texas rig set ups which I retie less often. The rods, 1 spinning, four casting are all MBR all-purpose so any lure or bait is fair game. A minimal boat and gear change has completely changed how, and where I fish but the simple set up I find really enjoyable. I still carry to many “options” in lures and Lord help me in picking “the” perfect plastic. My only issue with plastics is they come in too large a quantity packages. Having to buy a 10 or dozen package just to have a different color quickly adds bulk to the plastics bag. I have also tried to go back to the basics; t-rig, top water, swim bait a couple different jig configurations with variations of each. Still carry several spinnerbaits, chatterbaits, crankbaits, jerkbaits and waaaayyy too many plastics, but I’m trying. I’ve watched many YouTube videos with thousands of presentation methods and baits and it has just added to the frustration. I believe there is too much emphasis on the gear and not the process, everyone trying to sell something. A beginner would be hard pressed to find videos on “how” to fish successfully but can find everything on “what” to fish. Editing does wonders for the success rate! For myself dedication to time on the water is the next improvement.
  13. I believe single hooks are the answer, or at least the first option before switching to braid. The best scenario is braid with single hooks.
  14. Sniper, Arky and Grass jig heads are my favorites. A Dock Rocker is viable also but for me the swim heads are the most used and preferred. Colors, I think you have it narrowed down. I’d build colors that produce in your fishing habitat. Can’t go wrong with Siebert’s heads or colors.
  15. This has been done in the motorcycle industry for many years. This particular model could easily be adapted to a kayak.
  16. McCoy Mean Green
  17. Short answer, yes braid to leader. Long answer, for years I was straight braid. Then went to braid to leader, then this year went straight fluro, until the last river trip. The water was a bit high, fast and it was windy. After blowing up three bait casters and losing two lures on small snags I’ve went back to braid with leader and straight braid on my jig and spinnerbait rods. Usually I use a 3-6 foot fluro leader on bait casters and around a twelve foot leader on spinning. Spending time trying to pick out a bird's nest while being blown down the river in a canoe isn’t workable, at least for me.
  18. Contact ALF and they may help you out. Pretty decent folks.
  19. Hummmm, I’ll give you $510 for it!
  20. Every lure gets the Double Pitzen
  21. Yeah, anything over $20 I’m throwing it on braid!
  22. I would have went swimming and went home wet and happy.
  23. I own Kistlers, St.Croix and Diawa but GLoomis, the originals by Gary Loomis are the favorites. Most all my rods are IMX and GLX MBR with two new Edge rods on the way,,,,,,eventually. Although I still have an ‘80’s Slistar that I just can’t replace. It’s a spinner blade machine.
  24. Yeah you have to have port/starboard and a minimum height stern light if you’re out between sundown and sun up. Mandatory. The button lights are really nice, unobtrusive and provide great light. The Yak-Power system is great and has everything you need but go for the five connector unit at least. That way you can add “legal” lighting, footwell and accessory lights/charger port as well. The Nocqua battery is fine but wouldn’t use it for both lights/accessories and the depth finder. I’d suggest either upgrade to a single 20/30 ah battery or add another 10 Nocqua just for the lights.
