  1. Years back, when I built tooling for a fibergass casting company, they found " mirror glaze" paste wax to be the best release agent for production work
  2. That is what I used to think in my younger days. Hauled firewood for years to heat our home. When I brought home a full truck load, I had to unload it before going to work the next morning. Then I bought a heavy duty trailer...excellent as it would haul more than the truck alone and when I got home I could just unhook the trailer and unload it when I felt like it. Actually learned to back up a trailer at age 13 as I worked at a marina, so getting a trailer into tight spaces was never an issue. Went to an SUV and have multiple trailers for different needs. Trailers and SUV are cheaper than a truck and get far better fuel economy. Never will I go back. However, each to his own, truck lovers are not gonna change their likes, and I guess I am just to cheap to shell out the cost of a truck. I just find trailers far more versatile for my hobbies.
  3. I am jealous, ...I here you folks can fish in the streets !!...lol...
  4. You mean they don't take credit cards ???
  5. They are designed for speed, not much to gain at trolling motor speed. Actually low speed efficiency is altogether different from high speed efficiency as far as a prop goes.
  6. I use check lists when doing things ocasionally, saves many return trips to get what I forgot ! However, my boat is fully equipped with what I need and I keep it locally in my barn. I fill my fuel tank on the way home if less than half a tank on the gage. I can get three fishing trips on a half tank so plenty of reserve there. Between trips I am in my barn checking battery chargers, checking tire pressures, cleaning the boat etc. It is always ready to go. I keep my minnow bucket in my tow vehicle and my cooler sits by the back door. Make my own ice, just grab my snacks and drinks, put ice in cooler, keep hats in boat along with sweat shirts, sunglasses so I don't need to remember any of that stuff. Besides that, I am retired, so I go often...often enough it has become a habit. Can't say I have forgotten anything in years. First trip of the year I do have to double and triple check though.
  7. Older guy here, always a big water drinker, but had some minor health issues a while back, no energy ! Doc said my electrolites were low, I don't care for salt and rarely use it. Doc recommended " Powerade" less salt than gatorade, but still to much for me. Started mixing water and Powerade about 60-70% water to powerade. Works great, no salty taste but still gives me the electrolites I need. When on the boat I have a couple/ three waters and a bottle of Powerade to mix some in. Makes the water taste better and gives me the salt I don't like. Felt much better with more energy than just water.
  8. Years back I customized a new van for the family. Cut holes in both sides for custom windows.....took two days of checking and rechecking before I could make the first cut !!
  9. Do use water, WD40 or something to carry away the chips, it will cut much faster and cleanly !
  10. Different 12' Jon boats...my current 12' is only rated for 3 hp, my 2.2 does a good job but about 6-7 mph is all the speed you will get, probably closer to 4-5 mph with two adults. In years last I had a 12' " river jon" that was a wide deep Jon boat rated for 10 hp. With my OMC 9.9 it would fly, right up on plane with two adults over 20 mph. The boat needs to be built to handle a bigger motor, putting a 9.9 on a boat rated for 3 to is an accident looking to happen !! When it does, I am sure it will be someone else's fault !!
  11. From the reviews I have read, they didn't appear to be well received for the price..
  12. Nickle makes it resist corrosion, the more Nicole the better, a magnet won't be attracted to nickle. Being an alloy, SS can still corrode with dissimilar metals, but you probably won't live long enough to see it !!
  13. If it were mine, I would seriously consider backup nuts with bolts from an access hole if possible. However, I have had great success with rivnuts, often folks use ones that are to small for the job. Also the initial hole to install these submits needs to be snug ! If hole is sloppy the rivnut can easily fail. I have them on my Side x Side ATV to hold the tree kickers onto the frame. 2" dia x 1/8" wall steel tubing bends and no rivnut failures. When buying SS fasteners, carry a magnet to test them, if any attraction at all then the fasteners are not pure SS. When pure SS is used, any corrosion will be so slow you will outlive it by a long shot. My 1983 aluminum boat has real SS screws in there for over 40 years and not one sign of corrosion. Fake SS can be a real problem....check closely.
  14. Our Cabela's used to be that way, awesome place for fishing gear. Then they built a BP about an hour south of the Cables store. The BP store has a really big fishing dept but low on stock. In the mean time the Cabela store has reduced there fishing dept by 60-70%. There clothing dept is hugh...as is the bargain cave. Glad the BP store is only 15-20 minutes away, last few trips to the Cables store was very dissapointing.
  15. Sorry to hear that, the BP in my area is very helpful if you can find an employee, very scarce except for cash registers. About an hour away is a Cabela's, their employees no nothing but then again about the only thing they have in stock is clothing. Their fishing dept isn't much bigger than my bathroom. No wonder folks are using online buying.
  16. Small motion detector inside the boat with the alarm on your cell phone. Anyone getting into or trying bro move your boat sets off the alarm, then you can catch them red handed !! I have a friend that is an electronic system wiz that installs them for me. Everything I have is connected to the alarm. Toys that is, and my barn and garage. I do keep everything locked, but if anyone triggers an alarm, we meet !!
  17. Here in Ohio the DNR does a great job in maintaining public access points. Having the big lake helps alot. Many private ramps that charge fees but they are closer to the hot spots. There was a time many years back that a governor we had raised fees thru the roof and the money was spent elsewhere. News papers along with citizens made a really big issue of out this and after that, the governor was voted out, things really changed for the better ! Voters need to see their money used wisely !!
  18. This is the reason my boat is full of bungee cords !! When others come aboard, first thing they notice is all the cords holding stuff down. Cheap to make your own, great insurance !!
  19. Talk to the folks that made the repair, they should know.....
  20. As the saying goes...." If you have to ask the price...you definitely can't afford it"...kind of boat.
  21. If they are actually filling with water, the the factory folks may have screwed up the plumbing for the live wells. Being new, get it back to the dealer pronto !!
  22. So....if we have deep pockets to buy fancy gizmos that gives us a higher rating ? I always thought the ability to find and catch fish in difficult conditions would make the better fisherman ?
  23. If the rest of the trailer is anything like what is in the pics, get a new trailer !!
  24. Consider your self a metric gallon.......3.78 liters !! LOL...
  25. If water is not choppy and your sense of balance is good, you will be fine. I have a friend whose balance is awefull, he trips and falls on everything. Only you know how good your balance is. 30 years ago I would have been fine but at 75 yrs old, not so sure my balance would be that good. On my 16' side console the deck is fine, but on a small Jon boat, I would not be comfortable but I am probably much older !!
