Around here real high water, over the ramp and onto the access road. Did manage to sneak the boat out though, and picked up the first fish of the year. A nice LM, 19 " just under 3lb.

Today I caught my first 8" hudd fish... after over 100 hours fishing it over the years. I've caught fish on bigger baits but for some reason I could never get them on the traditional slow bottom crawl

Had my boss and his son over today . Primary goal was bream. The 2nd bream Alex hooked , as he had it almost to the dock , a bass clobbered the bream and he hooked the bass right in the corner of the

  • So I went fishing today, and caught a 9#. Scale bounced between 8-15 and 9-2, but let's call it a 9, shall we? NLMB trout eater.   Super slow rolling a 8" weedless on the bottom in about 15

No brown bass today, the heavy high winds comming from the north stopped that , but we didn’t manage some nice green brutes. Along with this 6,10 oz beauty

Yep, today was a good day; until I ran out of rage tail baby menaces, and then the depthfinder battery ran out too, so I left them biting.

Nothing really big, but I did catch a lot of fish, including some decent ones.

That is the worst case of bass thumb I have ever seen. I had a 72 fish day once and it’s wasn’t even that bad. Congrats !! Hah

Really missing my smallies. Our streams look like coffee with cream and really no lake options around here.

Just some beautiful brown bass again !

Billy D and Co. getting it done!

Managed one more 17 inches yesterday (Friday) at sleepy hollow.  This Time on a green pumpkin ned rig on a near shore drop off.  I started this year with 3 main goals 1 obviously get my avg size up. 2 stop being a fair weather fisherman.  3 keep learning.  I almost called it quits an hour into but, pushed on for another 3 hrs

so far I have been able to do all 3 of the goals I have set.  Friday was a down right dreadful day on lake Ovid.  High was supposed to 56 with light and variable wind and partly sunny. It was cloudy and the Temp only reached 47 degrees and with a constant 12-15 mph wind ( which blows my 14 tin boat around quite a bit).  I’ve only  been out three times in the last month mainly due to weather on days I could get out.  However, that is three times more I’ve ever been out this early in the season in previous years.  Years past I would wait for perfect sunny conditions.  This year I’m pushing myself to get out there in all weather ( within reason). So far it has paid off.  My avg this year is 17-18 inches when last year I was in the 14-15 in range. I just need to get my numbers up.

High, dirty water means I get do my favorite kind of fishing. Picked up my 7' 6" Okuma Helios rod/Helios SX combo, spooled with 20lb Seaguar flipping fluoro and went to work. It isn't a numbers game usually, but couldn't complain about the quality this week.

@Bluebasser86, I haven’t broken out the jig yet this year. I might be inspired enough to do it today now!

@Mbirdsley, “fair weather” changes by the minute so you’ve gotta chance it sometimes. I got caught in a wild storm yesterday. I was looking directly at the boat ramp and had no clue where it was. We went to eat fried chicken for about an hour and it cleared off! My buddy came into town from Memphis so we were fishing despite the forecast. Fished about 10 out of 11 hours completely dry, most stayed at home

Morning started out Flat calm with little to no active fish anywhere I checked.

Afternoon ended fast & furious as a most welcome SW wind blew right on my favorite flat.

The 48 degree water and bright sunshine, just needed the wind.

About 30 minutes after it came up, a Lucky Craft 127 jerkbait in natural brown trout pattern worked over 6-8 ft of hard bottom was doing all the heavy lifting, including this perfectly shaped 5-2.

Best of this day.

I caught this skinny one yesterday morning around 10:30 in a private 40-acre lake west of Richmond. The kind of place that has a muddy bank for a ramp.

Length was 22 3/4”, but it was just 5 pounds 15 ounces on my Rapala digital.

Fought like crazy too and I was using a MH Conquest & 14# green Trilene XL. Went 12' left, 12' right, left. right, left again & then under the boat, then pulled away and jumped a couple of times , but never made it back into the pads.

I was using a copper-bladed spinnerbait with multicolored-flake pinkish? skirt and a 4” curl tail grub in chartreuse silver flake. These War Eagle spinnerbaits are growing on me. My mentor isn’t laughing quite so much now about my color selection.

WE weren’t expecting much this morning for a half day with tons of current and water in the high 50s. Still eating the little finesse worm, got a 19”, 18”, 17” and several 12-15” . And gar tacos for cinco de mayo!83712953-A222-4BE2-B7D1-693382210202.jpeg

MMMMM, gar tacos ?

I've heard they're great eating, but the guy telling me how to clean them started talking about getting a bandsaw involved and I checked out of the conversation.
