I'm not bass fishing because of a four letter word starting with w and ending with k.

I am getting the boat I captain ready for a two week trip in late October early Nov. to Magdalena Bay on the Baja Peninsula. This will could be the fishing trip of a lifetime, if all goes as planned, or a total disaster, if I am not prepared.  I am in the middle of a complete electronics upgrade, 5,000 hour engine service, and fixing all the other systems, that decide to break during the hot summers in PV.

After the Mag Bay trip, I hope to have some time and money to chase bass.  I haven't caught a bass since early June, and have been looking at all the big bass pictures posted here, makes me want to quit work and move to Maine.

Today I caught my first 8" hudd fish... after over 100 hours fishing it over the years. I've caught fish on bigger baits but for some reason I could never get them on the traditional slow bottom crawl

Had my boss and his son over today . Primary goal was bream. The 2nd bream Alex hooked , as he had it almost to the dock , a bass clobbered the bream and he hooked the bass right in the corner of the

  • So I went fishing today, and caught a 9#. Scale bounced between 8-15 and 9-2, but let's call it a 9, shall we? NLMB trout eater.   Super slow rolling a 8" weedless on the bottom in about 15

Bagged this yesterday in shallow water with a pumpkin worm with a chartreuse tail.  It popped off just as I got'em on shore, so it saved me the trouble of removing the hook and its a heck of lot better than it getting loose a foot from shore (which happened to me 3 different times last week ?)

Also, I got the small one which had a yellowish tinge to its fins, which I have not seen before.  Anyone recall what the cause might be?   Maybe specific to their preferred diet?

from what I remember fin coloration is usually attributed to diet, typically high in crawfish or other non-shad forage. Can also be influenced by the local water chemistry

@Basstermind: Gorgeous bass!

This is all I know about yellow-finned bass: Whatever you do, don't call one "yellow," for if you do, they'll reply, "Who you callin' yella?" and then it's on.

A couple of little 2-2.5s on the good old T rig this morning. Our days have been sunny and 90-95 and overnight lows still in the 70s so the water temps have come down but we aren't fully into a fall pattern yet - scattered business. Basically just have to follow the bait and hope for the best.

I got an opportunity to put the Sufix Tritanium Plus line to the test around some concrete pillars...it did not disappoint. Not a scratch on the stuff. So far I'm having a hard time understanding why it's not the premier line in LMB fishing.

Excellent fishing tonight. I caught 26 bass in two hours and I didn't use a Whopper Plopper. Most were on a bone-colored popper, but I also scored on a paddletail and Zoom trick worms, my first Trick bass ever. I paddled up my beloved stream, then paddled back to where it widens to a river, and ended in a bog. I caught 12 in the stream, 12 in the river, and only two in the bog, but that's because I was out of light. The big girl came out of the bog. I lead with two ordinary fish, then two pics of the stream and river, and then two nice fish from the stream, one nice fish from the river, and then the bog bass. It was so gratifying to land 26 of the 27 bass I hooked. I added extra split rings to my popper and changed the hooks this afternoon and I think that helped, plus five of my six rods are now MH and that helps too. The only bass I measured is the first one after the two river pics and she was 17", but I think a couple of the others are bigger. The last bass, the bog fish, was a powerhouse. I'm fishing again in the morning. It will be in the forties when I launch, but I don't care because I'm returning to a pond with four-pounders. Here's hoping I can catch a five or six-pounder too!:

I was too excited to sleep through the night, so I was up at 12:30 a.m. and went fishing on two hours of sleep. Still, I fished well, catching 36 and I've posted a typical bass followed by the four biggest, although the first of the biggest is kinda skinny.

It was dark when I launched, but I photographed the way to the pond coming out. First, the road. Then the meadow. Then the woods. Then the pond. Looks a bit boggy, but it's not as you'll see in the last pond photo. Then the bass!

P. S. - A chubby, small Whopper Plopper was my best lure, followed by a Zoom Trick worm. I really like the Zoom Trick worm and last night was my first time using one. I'm thinking I'm the only one at BR who knows about Trick worms, so here's your heads-up. J/K!

P. P. S. - It was 47 degrees this morning and I was wearing shorts. Brrr!

You take us along on your fishing trips with your pretty pics, so I figured I owed ya.

@TnRiver46 I gave it a mighty yeet to get it back into the water. Also I think it was illegal, cause I caught it right next to the boat ramp on Topside, near a sign that explicitly says I'm not allowed to be doing that.

I had to google "yeet." Cool word. Nevertheless, I must report you to Johnny Law, aka the Man from Minnesota.

I just love the pictures of the waterways and landscape. You sure do have the water lilies and Pickerel Rush. Thanks for sharing and taking the time to get the natural beauty of the places you fish.

Bob, I thought of you when I saw the Pickerel Rush this morning. It looks so different, but still lovely.

If you include yeet in your books that you write, your sales will increase tenfold

Went back to a lake I haven't visited since 2016.  The MI DNR lists this place among the "better" fishing waters for largemouth bass in its county....which is not quite what I experienced the handful of times I fished it, and why I dropped it from my rotation.  There are bass here, but what I have caught has always run small, with the largest topping out at 13 inches.  My previous trips were in June and July.  Maybe worth another look in a different month?

4 1/2 hours and 10 more short fish later, I am not dissuaded from the feeling that I was right to prioritize other places.  The biggest two again ran 13", everything else 10-12:

Better than catching no fish, for sure... but maybe more of a Lake Menderdink than a Lake Menderchuck...

Had a good day yesterday. The little mini swimbait is killing it for me. Even after the 2nd fish in the pic ate the tail, the tail-less keitech caught me a nice 4.5lbs'er...

Small stream fishing today . I had three nice fish  get off. Twice my line broke. 12 lb Big Game . Must have been nicked from the rocks. Then I dropped my camera in the water. I dont know if it will work again .   I got a photo of one bass. Caught a  larger but camera shut down. Using Hula grubs rigged on a jig head below riffle's.

Same. Been on the road all week and when I get back, it’s more house work that doesn’t get done when I’m gone.

A government shutdown is looking very likely in about a week though so there’s about to be a lot more fishing reports coming from this guy.
