Today I caught my first 8" hudd fish... after over 100 hours fishing it over the years. I've caught fish on bigger baits but for some reason I could never get them on the traditional slow bottom crawl

  • So I went fishing today, and caught a 9#. Scale bounced between 8-15 and 9-2, but let's call it a 9, shall we? NLMB trout eater.   Super slow rolling a 8" weedless on the bottom in about 15

Got on a few good ones finally. They were up in skinny water which really surprised me since the water temp was 84 degrees at 7 am. These were caught in 4 fow or less. I went old school and caught them on a 7" power worm in green pumpkin. I haven't thrown one in years, I think that will change. Biggest went 6-14 followed by a 5-5 and a 3-10. Still couldn't get that 20 lb 5 fish limit and ended up with 19-2. Had one jump and throw a frog that would have put me over, but that is the way it goes.

Beat the incoming storms today. Winds gusting 20+, but was able to fish plastics on the calmer banks. Once I got around to the windier side, had to switch to swimbaits to keep good contact with the presentation. Paid off right away with the best fish of the day out of 20. Have now reached 1,120 bass YTD and counting. Loving this retirement stuff ?

Few creek fish. Most of them were on or defending beds. Smallest was around 12 inches and my younger brother caught a creek MONDO!! Any guesses on weight?? Right around 20 inches. A little skinny though.

Nice smallie. Looks like 3-3.25 lb. BTW you gave me a sore neck. lol

Tried force-feeding the bass a plastic frog yesterday but they wouldn't eat it. Turned out to be a ned rig kinda day and I eventually gave in. Caught 2 crappie, 3 bass, a green sunfish, and a channel cat in a couple hours. First bass pictured is ~2 pounds and the second is pushing 5.

Changed all of the fluids and plugs in the Honda and went for a quick solo trip to a different lake to test things out before making any long runs at my home lake. Motor ran great with no issues and the fish obliged with a solid bite up to 3.5 lbs.

I'm pretty sure SM are the only bass I've ever caught that actually bite my thumb when I'm lipping them. Those things are feisty.

After work trip Monday morning. First time on this lake this year for me. Poor thing has been getting beat to death being in the middle of the city and everyone deciding they're a fishermen now. I didn't catch a lot of fish, but the quality was better than what it usually is. Big fish was a 4.07 on a homemade finesse jig. Not a breath of wind so when the sun came out, I was out.

@NorcalBassin, down here in hillbilly country, the old timers refer to that smallmouth personality trait as “bite ya as soon as look at ya!” Other creatures like yellow jackets and horseflies have also earned this designation.  “I only caught 3 smallmouth, but dem thangz is so mean they’d bite ya soon as look at ya”

Stopped at a new spot on the way in this morning. Had about 20 minutes to fish and look around, but I found one that was as agressive as he was dumb, and he hit this plug just about as soon as it hit the water. It ain't much, but it's honest work.

throw a green pumpkin big trd on a weedless nedhead---i caught about 65 fish in our 4 hour tourney last night. caught a 15 inch fish that literally weighed .68 lbs LOL

Tomorrow's new rod day and I'll finally have a proper rig to throw neds and shaky heads and whatnot on instead of trying to make my cranking rig work with it, so that'll be fun.

@galyonj, I caught some nice bass on the point out from that dock when I was living in the dorms in college. Always got funny looks riding the elevator and walking to the parking garage with rods. Seems like they might have built a gazebo on the point last I saw, big log jam below it holds bass

The little park/boat ramp at the end of Ginn off 129? Yeah, that's the spot. They've got the whole place tore up right now because I guess they're putting in a new walking trail around the back side of the cove. Still good access from the bank from the boat dock around to the point, though. All the opposite bank looks like good fishing between the logs, laydowns and overhangs. I didn't have but a few minutes this morning, but I'll be back to investigate further and scare all the fish away.

If I'd had any ultralight gear I would've cleaned up on bream this morning, though. They were going buckwild under and around that dock.

Eh. Wasn't much of a secret in the first place. I'll live.

I've got a budding little angler who's deadly with a hair jig!

Healthy lookin’ bass there!

I caught 9 today and the boy caught 7. Nothing truly big, but this was special. His first spinnerbait bass. He had been catching them on Wacky Rigs but he wanted to try something different. He picked the bait and the color he wanted: a purple spinnerbait. Tied it on and got 'em.

spacer.png

Got out today 730 -1. Boated 12 bass 11 on a couple different spinnerbaits and 1 on a buzzbait that was the best of the day at 3-14.

Everyday I'm bustlin', with the Fish Arrow Bustle Frog lol.

LJFtwM2.jpg

4 bites in 4 hours today; 2 on the fish arrow, 2 on an evergreen kicker frog. Landed 3 and lost 1. This one was the biggest.
