Had a young friend from church over this afternoon to take advantage of the springlike condtions.

We caught 27 on trick worms, flukes, and senkos. The bites came mostly in 2-3 big flurries throughout the afternoon. High was pushing 80 !!

I lost 2 fish 5 minutes apart that didnt budge when I set the hook.

Mission accomplished though, in putting him on some fish.large.20190217_145523-966x1288.jpg.e8fe0de2d1c59b5df4a46d8faa3a606e.jpglarge.20190217_151109-966x1288.jpg.9f7719f2a3d45c138980cfd082d87579.jpglarge.20190217_150247-606x808.jpg.febc79df9fb2ec8be2a7fce8de68be60.jpglarge.20190217_150439-966x1288.jpg.9403eac5da67989e9f5e44128c44387f.jpglarge.20190217_170411-606x808.jpg.f62cb17c126b12493f332ad14e01d24a.jpglarge.20190217_170932-966x1288.jpg.87295c7e1cd9ce72cce1b150f1402771.jpglarge.20190217_164647-966x1288.jpg.583e21597921d48ec9e51b914961066a.jpg

Yes the main river is nasty. There's plenty of lakes around here that stay clear no matter what, I chose one of those sunday

Ok, new rule on the boards.  Guys from Florida are no longer allowed to post pics wearing shorts when I am chipping ice off everything that I own.

Sounds like a good rule to me, I just finished blowing a path out to my geeenhouse to get some salad greens, and there’s about 24” of snow out there 😔. Won’t be seeing shorts here for some time yet.

I can get behind this - today is the warmest it's been in weeks...and we're still not breaking freezing.

Sorry, you guys in the frozen north -- I just gotta do another Florida post!

That's because I got lucky tonight and caught this 5-4 on a Eco Pro Tungsten Trokar jig fished barbless. This is definitely the biggest bass I've caught barbless. It's great being able to simply lift out the hook and leave the bass unharmed. When you're just fishing for fun it makes a whole lot of sense. Also, it's a good way to practice keeping 'em pinned when they jump.

Nice fish! I always fish barbless and very rarely lose fish on jigs. It's stuff like ned rigs, dropshots, etc. that are hard to keep fish on.

Agree, EG. Its not that hard to keep the bass pinned with a barbless jig as long as you keep the pressure on, especially when it jumps.

Had a great afternoon with ned rig on some decent fish.  This was the best of nine I caught in a little over an hour. Rain tomorrow then big wind and more cold. The groundhog is a con artist.

@The Bassman, I thought surely you would be frozen in

I think we're done with ice. It came and went several times this winter with mid Jan. being the most persistent. It's been a great winter of finesse fishing but I'm anxious for some power techniques soon.

Had a really good day Friday. Shouldn't have ever put the spinnerbait down but for some reason I really wanted to force them to eat something else I guess. I did get my first nicer one on a 100 pointer that was 16 3/4" long and 3.45lbs.

Image may contain: water, outdoor and nature

Next one after that was a couple hours later on the spinnerbait, 18" and 4.30lbs. She actually had a pair of big shad tails sticking out of her throat.

Image may contain: water

Image may contain: one or more people and flower

They got their point across to me then and I spent most of the rest of the day with my spinnerbait rod in my hand and caught several more, including a few more solid fish.

You're making me jealous here, man. We still got 16" of ice topped with 10+" of snow on the lakes.

Most of the rest of our lakes are frozen, although a few ponds are starting to break up with the few warmer days we've had. If it wasn't for that power pant steaming in the background of that picture, I wouldn't be catching anything most likely.

We ain't freeing up anytime soon. Temps dipping below zero several nights this week, and a -26 windchill tomorrow night.

Really envy you. I was catching fish in 50* yesterday. Today we're hanging on to whatever we can with 45-50 mph wind and temps dropping to the teens tonight. Our spring's coming real soon. I can sense the transition.

We have had a very mild winter, even for us. It hasnt even been under 50 for 2 weeks now. Everything in nature around here thinks its spring. We'll see.

Do you see how that one in the top picture is hooked? That's how I hooked one yesterday and it took me forever to get it out.
