Today I caught my first 8" hudd fish... after over 100 hours fishing it over the years. I've caught fish on bigger baits but for some reason I could never get them on the traditional slow bottom crawl

Had my boss and his son over today . Primary goal was bream. The 2nd bream Alex hooked , as he had it almost to the dock , a bass clobbered the bream and he hooked the bass right in the corner of the

  • So I went fishing today, and caught a 9#. Scale bounced between 8-15 and 9-2, but let's call it a 9, shall we? NLMB trout eater.   Super slow rolling a 8" weedless on the bottom in about 15

Had a friend over for his first try at bass fishing. We went from 5:30 or so until dark. Near perfect temps in the low 80s, light breeze , partly cloudy.

Started out near our island with no fish caught on several baits. Got to the south end of the island and got my first ( and biggest fish) on the UV speed worm in watermelon red. My friend had several bites with a super fluke but was having trouble hooking them. I had switched to the bama bug yum dinger and caught several more .

Evan finally connected on the yum dinger.

On the way home , I stopped at the deep hole on the way . As I was changing to an ol monster, Evan hooked another fish that seemed small , but it ended up being his best fish.

We ended up with around 10 total…

I think Evan enjoyed it, which was the goal. He’s asking me if we can go agin this thursday.

Thinks he’s got the bug…

5 fish, but one of them was about 5lbs lol.....75degree water temps today, and that's up 17degrees in about a week's time.

Toad came on the Jackhammer with 5" Spunk Shad, really loving this combo now.   Big profile, big thump, just throws more jet fuel on an already big fish bait.  Another chunky Spot did as well, then two quick Buzzbait fish in the back of a pocket, and lastly the Spro Little Jon 50 picked up the 5th one.    Dying to get on that first wide open topwater bite.

***note the Crappie fisherman in the background, not sure I would have been snapping a pic if it wasn't ?

Ran out of space on the photo allowance for this post even after compressing then a lot but here are some fun pictures from yesterday.

My first NICE bass on the Jerkbait and one of three I caught yesterday on the Berkley Frittside 5 in black chartreuse.

My buddy got his very first bass on a jig and Jake got one on the Senko!

Incredibly fun afternoon yesterday!

@N Florida Mike, you hooked Evan!

@Pat Brown, you hooked a buddy too!

@AlabamaSpothunter, those are three gorgeous bass.

In case you guys think I've grown too old and soft to fish, here's a live lake cam of a Maine lake.:

Sure, all your water's frozen, but look at the bright side. You'd be able to skip a jig a country mile on that.

Ya - but it's hard for the fish to get at that jig...so catching is problematic.

Catching? Don't be ridiculous.

Got my biggest one in almost two years this afternoon, 6.82#. Caught her in front of a submerged drain on a Z-Man TicklerZ that's been catching fish since last fall. Can't wear it out. Also caught several others on it and lipless crankbait.

Awesome fish man, congrats!

Went out to a different spot on Ray Roberts again today, just state park goofin. Landed five in one hour at the first spot I tried - a 4lb, two 2.5-3lb, and two 1-2lb. Feeling good about that, might be one of the best trips I've had in terms of pounds per minute. Had to leave for an appointment but gonna go back to the east side of the lake for more sheltered cove action. Three straight days of good fishing makes a chef happy.

Show off - now you’re just rubbing it in ? This might be a banner year over there.

I’ve only seen one good fish this year from my little lakes. Starting to wonder about them. One has almost gone dead, while a couple numbers lakes have only produced small fish. Might be a tough year over here :dontknow: Our lack of good drains is really starting to show itself. Maybe once things warm up it’ll change - at least, I sure hope so.

Buddy and I went prefishing today for a tournament that’s this weekend. Caught these three in about 5 minutes in one area and left It alone. Water temps still in the 50s here. Hoping It’s even better this weekend.

I'm getting these good ones handed to me because these drains, what you used to refer to as a "sucker shot".  What you said about a lake going dead got my attention. A lot of the ponds I've done very well in years past are pretty much totally unproductive now. And it doesn't happen over several years. Things can change in a matter of months. Creates lots of questions as to why. I'd be interested in other guys experiences.

One of my better quality fish ponds has only produced a single bass this year. I’ve almost stopped going to it until things warm up, hoping they pick up. The pond where I caught the 8 at a couple years back has only given up a couple fish all winter. My largest one which is usually a good mix has only been numbers this year. Got my first decent fish out of it today (3 lb.) - has me worried. I’m on a downswing over here. None have good drains, so heavy rains don’t help other than staining the water.

A little more sun; a little more warmth; but less wind, and the water is continuing to clear each day. Still managed 35 this afternoon with a couple better fish in the mix (a pair of 3 lb. fish today), but might have to change things up shortly…or not - lol. More clouds and strong winds in the forecast for tomorrow, plus Friday severe storm potential.

On the way home from work my wife decided to not keep things simple and had our local pizza joint concoct her something not on the menu. Instead of twiddling my thumbs in the parking lot for an extra half hour waiting for this obnoxious culinary specialty to be done, I hit a local pond on the side of the road. I tore a hole in the azz of my jeans earlier in the day, so I tied on a NED and did my best @Team9nine impression. It worked!

Unfreaking real. Holey jeans in the rear and catching fish in a pond. Please do not post photos of these holes in your jeans like @Team9nine does.
