operating properly I see.

And the switch from an impeller driven pump to a 6' self-priming diaphragm pump worked like a champ. Filled the LW quick and easy. Everything is now fully operational.

Today I caught my first 8" hudd fish... after over 100 hours fishing it over the years. I've caught fish on bigger baits but for some reason I could never get them on the traditional slow bottom crawl

  • So I went fishing today, and caught a 9#. Scale bounced between 8-15 and 9-2, but let's call it a 9, shall we? NLMB trout eater.   Super slow rolling a 8" weedless on the bottom in about 15

A bow or stern anchor worries me. When I lift my canoe onto my rack, I always hit the roof. An anchor lock would scrape the metal. I would like the idea of a wind sock if it weren't for the likelihood that it would work like a weed trawler. I'll investigate the fiberglass stake out poles.

Since I can't afford Talons or PowerPoles - I use an 8' stake-out pole in Bass Trek if I want to sit someplace for a while...if it's shallow enough to use the pole that is.

I’m checking that out myself now. I have a 19 ft. aluminum Puddle jumper and trying to install Power Poles would be costly and probably overkill. Thought about installing the fiber Power Spike also. I have these gravel points and bars I’d like to spike into on the river.

Already got my fish for today, but wanted to test out a new reel (Lews Tournament pro, my GF is the best). Again, inhaled my 6" speed worm. I knew what it was as soon as it hits. You can feel it slither when it pulls. I wish it was a bass, but they do put up a hell of a fight. I had to do the drag dance for a bit, had a big death roll and got back into the water and took off. I let him run till he was tired out and pulled him back like a floating log.

Biggest one in the pond so far, 8lbs 2oz.

Nice - but this should go in 'Other Species'...this topic is for bass.

The weather forecast actually called for “smoky skies” today, which is exactly what we had for most of the day. Sitting well off the back side of a low pressure system in between fronts, so temps were much cooler today (high 75) with a NW breeze at about 10-12 mph. We’re also in a moderate drought,  about 6.5” behind normal precip amounts for this time of year. You’ll notice the low water in one of the pics, which all the micro lakes are suffering from at the moment.

Anyway, had intentionally let the “numbers” lake rest over the weekend. These small bodies of water can only take a couple days of repeated pressure unless you constantly change presentations. Went with the spinning rod and a Dark Sleeper given the conditions, and ended the afternoon with 35 bass. The pictures are pretty representative of the size fish roaming around in this location. Water is clear, treated, and the grass is growing, so the habitat is shrinking in this particular spot.

@Team9nine: It's amazing that you pull 35 bass out of that little lake. They sure look healthy and especially that first chunk.

I got out after work tonight again, took my daughter with me also. The smoke was very thick in the air here today. I started with a jackall chunk craw in green pumpkin chartreuse, with a 1/8oz bullet weight unpegged. I got 2 bass on this and decided that I was going to finally commit to using a hard jerk bait, I have done really good with flukes this year and figured why not.

the wind was blowing a constant 14-16mph with gusts higher, was also nice and overcast courtesy of the smoke. That’s what told me to throw the jerk bait. Within 5 cast I had a couple fish already and was feeling confident. I then got onto a nice little group of crappies, I was wading so no pictures of them unfortunately. But the crappies were smoking a full size vision 110, these are the largest ones that I have ever caught. I lost count around 20 or so. I then got back into the bass and caught at least 20 or more. I also caught a very fat 30 inch pike or musky and got to experience the rip your rod out of your hand strike, was a quick release. I brought it up to the surface and went for my pliers to get the hooks out and it shot up out of the water and threw the lure. Works for me, I didn’t really want to unhook that thing while standing in the water with it lol.

I headed back to the swimming area and caught 3-5 more bass and then it went dead for a bit and then I caught a 2.86lb bass to finish the night off. Unfortunately my daughter got skunked but she put in a good effort and that makes me proud. All in all I think it was a decent 3 hour session.

Yesterday we got a lot of much needed rain. Heavy, steady rain, all day long. Around 6 or 7 in the evening it cleared up. So I hit the ponds. Caught three "meh" sized bass.

The best part of the evening was watching a dad with his two little girls, about 7 or 8 years old, I would guess. They were fishing with crawlers, and they were pulling in the bluegill and dinky bass left and right. It didn't matter how tiny the fish was, the girls would shriek with delight every time they dragged one up onto the bank. Then one of them pulled in a big old catfish. She didn't really care that it was a catfish, or that it was almost two feet long, compared to the dinks she'd been catching all evening. The only thing she cared about was that it was one more fish than her sister had caught, putting her in "the lead."

It was a fun evening. I just can't wait till my own little one is old enough to bring fishing with me.

THE STREAK GOES ON!! Had a dinner to go to. Got home late and almost didn’t go out. Figured I would stroll down. The mosquitoes ? were out in full effect. Could only stand it for 15mins or so before I threw in the towel. Still got my fish for Wed 6/28.

@Jmurphy87: Imagine Robin of the Batman tv show saying this: "Holy (Canadian) Smoke, MurphMan, you bellied up to the buffet and went for seconds and thirds!"

@IcatchDinks, your story made me smile.

If I thought there existed enough people that had a fetish for floppy feet, I'd have an OF right now. lol

Scholars conjecture that Dante's 10th Level of Heck, which Dante never had a chance to explain, is where fishers who posted photos of drums at BASS Resource catch nothing but drums for all eternity.*
