Today I caught my first 8" hudd fish... after over 100 hours fishing it over the years. I've caught fish on bigger baits but for some reason I could never get them on the traditional slow bottom crawl

Had my boss and his son over today . Primary goal was bream. The 2nd bream Alex hooked , as he had it almost to the dock , a bass clobbered the bream and he hooked the bass right in the corner of the

  • So I went fishing today, and caught a 9#. Scale bounced between 8-15 and 9-2, but let's call it a 9, shall we? NLMB trout eater.   Super slow rolling a 8" weedless on the bottom in about 15

That means the big bass are under the back of the boat. Turn the boat around and THEN you'll be catching the big ones.

Sheriff deputy for over 16 years now. Part of my current assignment is transporting inmates to and from court and also sitting in plains clothes with them during their trials. Unfortunately "plain clothes", translates to a suit and tie ?. As someone who selects clothes almost completely based off comfort,  it is not my favorite thing at all.

Compromise, Deputy Clayton. Wear the suit and tie, but don your colorful crocs with them.

@TnRiver46 throw a frog out in the middle of the channel. They’ll never know what hit them

Y’all are hilarious the way you keep harassing him over spinnerbaits ??

Best skunking of my life.

Took the new project boat out to mess with a few things and decided to take the boy for his first on the water fishing trip since it was going to be a short excursion.  Was ready to go "bye bye" after 45 minutes, but cherished every moment.

Did have 2 bites in 30 cast where something just blasted the blades.  Local spinnerbait bite has been fire.

Best post of the day. Likely. Unless someone posts a photo of taking their kid AND dog fishing for the first time.

Seriously, I love that photo and your solid dadding.

Ironically the middle of the channel is a great place for

topwater where we were. Shad eating bugs in the scum line are always getting trucked by large SMB in the dead center

Ran into a sizable specimen on a black 1/2 oz nichols buzz bait and got to see a beautiful sunrise.

FWIW, I don't throw much topwater anymore, but a walking bait like a spook will get tied on before I reach for anything else (poppers, ploppers, etc).

Heck yeah, people even wear em out with ploppers. They will hit anything when they are feeling right

All this talkin' 'bout walkin' baits has me wanting to try them again. Here's how many bass I've caught on a walking bait:

Muskies: 0

SMB: 0

LMB: 0

I also have 0 fish on walking baits unless you count walking a frog or popper or chopping a glide bait.

I keep trying them at times I think they should work and get nothing.  Fast.  Slow.  Long pauses.  Burning them.  Burn + pause.  Silent ones, rattly ones, knockers etc.

Tie on a squarebill and let it float to the surface and sit there and it gets eaten.  I don't get it.

I had one blow up on a Berkley Cane walker back in early summer and I had one blow up on a super spook night fishing a year ago.

Beyond that, I've never even seen a ripple behind one.  I throw them at schooling fish and the schooling stops.  I let it get worked back up on the surface and toss a buzzbait in there and it gets crushed.

I don't know what it is.  I think walking topwaters work better at herring lakes or something.

Probably just need to do the ole 'tie on only walking topwaters for a month and see what happens ' game with it.  Usually I figure it out when I do that.

When I came here to TX, it became immediately apparent to me that a spook is something of a more prominent bait here than in other places I’ve been. So I got several. I’ve used them sparingly. No strikes yet, but they will produce at some point.

I'm having a similar experience...I'm doing terrible at roberts this week but my buddy at Lewisville downstream is crushing it. He's been kicking my butt since August really but it's been numbers this week

I've had a lot of success with the Spit'n Image in the past. I haven't had much lately, though the same is said about most things fished on the heavily pressured public lake I attend.

I've never fished an actual spook, but I found one earlier this year and got it cleaned up enough to use. I think I tied it on once. I've been intending to give it a fair chance though, but other lures previal.

One of the things about the Spit'n Image, is it will go below the surface very slightly and still walk a few feet, then it'll pop out and make a splash and will jump out of the water.

Your story is my story, Pat. I bet I own a dozen different walking baits. Maybe more. I had a couple muskies blow up on one, but that's it. And I'm throwing walking baits in water chock full of bass that are hitting other surface lures. I don't fish water with herring, so you might be right.

Yesterday was a frustrating day so I needed to unwind after work. I headed to the bank even though it was sprinkling rain, and I had less than an hour before dark. I really wanted to try out the double fluke rig that roadwarrior used once when we were fishing last fall. Yesterday was my first time to try it, but it will definitely not be the last.

I got it rigged up, and made a cast. I had two different colors tied on. White in the front, and baby bass in the back. I learned quickly that it's not the easiest rig to cast. However, on the second cast I hit the spot I was aiming for, and to my surprise I caught the little largemouth in the picture below. It hit the white fluke on the front. I don't know if it was the color or location that made it hit the one it hit, but it's always fun to catch fish on a new technique. I appreciate @roadwarrior introducing the idea, and giving me setup tips.

Soon after I caught that one it started raining harder so I got under the boat cover on the dock I was fishing on. I didn't have enough room to cast the double fluke rig under there so I tied on a watermelon senko. On the second cast I got another little largemouth. It was about the same size as the one I caught on the fluke.

I hung around in hopes of fishing more, but the rain stayed steady until it was dark. As I waited I tied on a black & blue jig. I knew I needed to make two more casts even if it was dark. After all, the second cast pattern was obvious. I tossed the jig in the water, expecting nothing, but this time the hit came on the first cast. The smallmouth hit the jig as soon as it hit the bottom. I was wet, but I was happy. It was a nice way to end a frustrating day.

I started not to post pictures, but dinks have been getting some love lately.  I'm also glad it was dark by the time I took the smallmouth picture. Let's just say I am trying to avoid any run-ins with the BR haircut police. ?

I've said before that this forum has some of the nicest and most helpful people in bass fishing. I am not wrong

honestly I do my best work with walkers when it's flat calm and I'm throwing them into places that give me the sweats. Also, they are much more forgiving to walk with an eagle claw size 1 duo lock snap - I prefer that to a split ring because of the sharper edges on the split ring. Plus, the size 1 snap can replace the snap on a chatterbait minimax as needed
