Sunny skies with SW winds of 10-15, gusting 20-25 were a challenge, but I managed to get half a dozen bites on a mix of jerkbaits and blade baits, including one that hit the 6 lb. mark, making it worth being out there. 1 Quote
MassBass Posted December 6, 2024 Posted December 6, 2024 These are some bass that beat the skunk on a trout quest. Kept a two bass limit. 18 Quote
Super User Team9nine Posted December 6, 2024 Super User Posted December 6, 2024 Rule #1 - Don’t blank - lol. Avoided that fate with this chunky keeper this afternoon. Briefly touched 60 around lunch, then temps started dropping. Blue skies again along with gusting winds over 30 mph made me change lakes to somewhere slightly more boat friendly. 18 Quote
Super User LrgmouthShad Posted December 6, 2024 Super User Posted December 6, 2024 Rather jealous here y’all. Some nice fish yall are catching. I haven’t fished for nearly three weeks since the kayak tourney on Fork. Hoping to make it out to Stillhouse Saturday 4 Quote
The Baron Posted December 7, 2024 Posted December 7, 2024 A few of the die-hards still at it.👍🏻 Update from Canada: The boat is still sealed up and most lakes are freezing over now. Only about 4 months left until we fish again.😩 One good thing about getting old is the 5 months of suck will go by as fast as our 5 months of fun did. 2 3 Quote
Super User LrgmouthShad Posted December 7, 2024 Super User Posted December 7, 2024 Really messy day of fishing and I made a lot of bad decisions but got lucky with one over 6lbs on a jerkbait. Long fish. About 23”. Windy, cold, rainy. Pardon me if I don’t look more excited, lol. Fun fish to catch 22 1 Quote
Super User AlabamaSpothunter Posted December 7, 2024 Super User Posted December 7, 2024 It's officially winter fishing season down here with the first good fish caught on a blade bait. This one came off the Dyna Response, which I plan to fish quite a bit more instead of just the Vault this year. Much more of sneaky bait than the Vault. 6.3 23 Quote
Super User Team9nine Posted December 8, 2024 Super User Posted December 8, 2024 Forecast for most of next week isn’t looking too promising, and we broke 50 today for our high along with very manageable SW winds from 6-9 mph, so I made a rare weekend run to a local lake. Turned out to be a good decision, as I was able to catch a limit of bass in the 3 hours I was out there, topped by this 7.0 pounder (top two pics). Also answered 3 recent forum posts with today’s catch - MB 110’s are worth the $$; Katsuage hooks will easily hold big fish if your setup is right; and a moderate action rod does a really nice job with jerkbaits 😎 😄 25 1 Quote

I guess the MB jerks are worthy after all. I’ve been trying to get my son to make a run to Land between the Lakes but he’s been caught up with deer and now duck hunting.. it’s a bit of a drive but I always do well on Kentucky lake, it’s coming back in a strong way after a considerable downturn.. 2 Quote
Super User Team9nine Posted December 8, 2024 Super User Posted December 8, 2024 Definitely wasn’t as good as yesterday, but did score one over 3 lbs. this afternoon on blade bait. Three days of rain starting tonight might really change things here if we get more than the 2.25!inches they are forecasting. 16 Quote
Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted December 9, 2024 Global Moderator Posted December 9, 2024 My wife was in Nashville for a concert this weekend, therefore I fished Saturday me and a friend floated 11 miles of shallow river in my small long tail boat , started off with temps in low 20s but fish were still biting ok, I was just mainly missing them. We ended up catching 5-6, my buddy got at least one with the fly rod. The two better ones I got were with a 2” helgrammite. I’m still waiting on him to send the pics of the ones I caught 😂. The old predator engine still runs like a top, no clue how but she does. Of course Mr or Mrs eagle went along with us Sunday I took my wife’s kayak (on top of the Honda, fuel efficient rig all the way around) fishing down by the lakehouse, got 3 fish I believe but two were decent keepers, a LM and a spot or maybe meanmouth which I got on the way in right next to the neighbors dock. Winter drawdown created a nice little dry storage for the kayak 😂. Pretty scenery and the clouds were doing some crazy stuff, also had loons screaming at me most of the day 21 Quote
Super User AlabamaSpothunter Posted December 9, 2024 Super User Posted December 9, 2024 Those gotta be Meanmouths......look super fat and healthy too. One thing I've never heard much about in regard to Meanmouths, is the Hybrid Vigor aspect that they should exhibit. In theory, and Meanmouth should grow bigger and faster than both an Alabama Bass and a SM. 1 Quote

I’ve caught a good many meanmouth back in the day before the Alabama bass was considered a species, and the SMB cross successfully with the KY spots and the result is always a very fat meanmouth, sometimes comically fat 3 Quote

Super User LrgmouthShad Posted December 10, 2024 Super User Posted December 10, 2024 @Aaron_H there were more there but I decided to call it quits. That spot's a good one because everybody seems to ignore one part of the underwater point. I've caught a lot of fish off that point. That was actually the biggest and makes me hopeful for some better quality. I'm at the point now on Stillhouse where I feel I know where some some bigger fish winter at but not a lot of time to catch them + they are hard to trick in this clear water. 3 Quote
Super User Choporoz Posted December 11, 2024 Super User Posted December 11, 2024 Found massive bait school yesterday - over a hundred yards square. Over 24 foot of water, but Garmin said 5' because the bait was so thick. Had to play with a number of spoons to get right size and rate of fall. Funny thing is that smaller spoons got best bass. Even though the bait was massive - snagged this 8" gizzard retrieving my spoon 14 Quote
Super User Team9nine Posted December 13, 2024 Super User Posted December 13, 2024 Nearly 4 inches of rain this week, and now the NW winds and clear skies following the front. Spent 2.5 hours on the water this afternoon, the first hour inside a creek arm hiding from the wind. Searched for crappie but only found carp, so pulled out the bass gear and caught one on jerkbait. Wind finally settled, so looked again for some crappie on the main lake. Only spotted a few, so gave up. Moved to some main lake points during the final 45 minutes and limited out on bass using blade baits. Water 49 deg. 20 Quote
FishTax Posted December 14, 2024 Posted December 14, 2024 Had a cold NC day with wind so didn't want to mess with the kayak. Hit up @Pat Brown to see if he wanted to try a new pond with me at a city park. Ended up getting our families together which was fun! We explored the ponds which feed each other in a chain. Pretty cool place with a variety of cover. I ended up deciding to try a blade bait as a few of you have inspired me but I'd never thrown one. I had a pretty small chartreuse one and threw it for an hour. Slow day and I varies the retrieve, ended up catching one good one on it. Both pics are same fish. Felt good to catch one on a new bait in a new place. Now I want to try a larger one on the lake. Looking forward to further exploring these ponds and possibly adding to our rotation of pressured ponds with a few big fish in them! 19 Quote
Super User LrgmouthShad Posted December 14, 2024 Super User Posted December 14, 2024 Rather slow day at the ol Stillhousy. I got 2 bites on a jig in timber in pretty quick succession and then nothing. One of these jig fish wrapped me up in a tree and came off. It felt pretty heavy. I beat the skunk at least! 13 Quote
thediscochef Posted December 15, 2024 Posted December 15, 2024 Got into a dinkfest today, caught eight in about an hour and a half. Nothing big. But also the lake was busy and I caught more than anyone. And sometimes that's the real five pounder 21 Quote

Super User LrgmouthShad Posted December 16, 2024 Super User Posted December 16, 2024 It was definitely a jiggin weekend. Caught 6 small ones today. 5 on a jig and 1 on a senko. Photo’d four of them. I tried a lot of baits. Even walked a frog. A jig was the deal, at least for dinky bass 😄. 20 Quote
Super User LrgmouthShad Posted December 16, 2024 Super User Posted December 16, 2024 I’d also like to specify. This was no finesse jig. This was a full size living rubber football jig lol. I have a feeling I picked the wrong area 1 Quote
