You've got to give them a few seconds to right themselves after they hit the water when they land on their side. You can't start retrieving right away. I don't have much patience for that.

It doesn't matter because the wind grabs the line and they're skipping across the surface like a flat rock. They never get a chance to do anything like they're supposed to do.

Only the second one I've ever bought. Decided to get a +1 for my trips to the deeper Ozark lakes.

I've had the same problem. One thing that helps is removing the split ring and putting a heavier hook on the front, but you're right, they don't work like you'd expect them to. I've also tried gluing tiny strips of lead on the front bottom, it helps, but still not great.

That larger size seems like it would solve the problem, and I'd like to buy one, but I'd prefer you to be the guinea pig ?

So yesterday afternoon I stepped out on to the front porch and saw a small package had been delivered.  But the box didn’t have the familiar fish in the rectangle on the side. Then I remembered the package was from my friend, Mr. Jones (The Bait Monkey) who won the Ebay surfing contest last week. These are gonna be fun during frogging season...

Probably the worst I've ever seen from Amazon. So far I like the feel of the winn grips, still subject to how they'll perform under certain weather conditions. The rod is surprisingly light compared to my dobyns fury, which I think is 6.6oz, it hides it's weight with good balance. I've only used fuji reel seats and this one isn't much different other than a longer trigger. I also like the softex plastic used on the trigger. Overall can't friggin wait to get out on the water.

Ugh, that makes it even harder. I have 2 goretex shell jackets but nothing heavier for the colder months. Hows the sizing? Would you describe it as "traditional" mens sizing or the new age "large" that fits like a small?

The large fits like a large. Big enough for a couple layers, but I'm not swimming in it.

got some 6th sense in the mail...

What did I just get myself into?! These worms are frickin huge!post-48461-0-67229800-1416425831_thumb.j

Wait until you catch one that's shorter than the worm.  Then your head will really spin!!

Got to go out Saturday to a small farm pond that has a creek running through it.  It's my only hope when everything else is ice.  Anyway, long story short I tore them up on a 5/16 oz War Eagle finesse spinnerbait and a Fat Albert.

Not sure what happened after that, but apparently I have an SLX XT and a Dobyns 703C on the way....?

Well, I went to the Fishing Expo in Doswell. Picked up two packs of 5/0 Raynaldo Enterprises hooks obstencillay for tubes. In hindsight I didn’t need the hooks. And I’m trying to concentrate on all Made In The USA tackle...so this was like a Bait Monkey mugging. ?

Amazon rod packaging is usually a horror show, based on what I've read. I think you're probably lucky it got there in one piece.

I've got one rod with Winn grips on it (a Lew's TP1 black), and I've had it out in mud, rain, sleet, all that. Never had to do more than wipe them down with a wet rag, then follow that up with a dry rag, and it's like nothing ever happened.

Hopefully that'll help assuage some of your concern.

Don't think they ever were? I know theyve got a facility there and might paint them there, don't think theyve ever made the baits themselves in the US. Hopefully someone more familar will jump in with a reply.

That has been my experience with ordering rods from Amazon. I decided after my last experience that I will no longer be ordering rods from them. I ordered a Daiwa Tatula Elite with the AGS guides through them. It showed up in a long cardboard box that was all of about 2"x2" and had no protection whatsoever for the rod. I opened the box to find the rod in two pieces. It hurt my heart a little to see such a nice rod treated like that. I returned it and promptly ordered the same rod from tacklewarehouse knowing that they know how to properly ship a rod.

That 5/16 War Eagle spinnerbait is freakin money. Nothing but success from that little spinnerbait. I buy one everytime I'm in Walmart just in case they stop making them ?

Yup, mine arrived the same way. Mine was a 4x4 box, luckily Canada Post babied it, it had 2 creases and the guides pierced through the plastic but no other damage.

I would buy a Dobyns again from Amazon, my last one came packed from Dobyns facility in Texas, in a hard card board tube, pvc capped, rod wrapped in plastic and 5 sections of bubble wrap. It was bulletproof. I've held on to it, just in case I need to ship a rod in the future.

I had them in and out of my cart for a while, then when my local gander closed they were 70% off and I snatched them up.  But, I agree and would gladly pay full price.  They're deadly.

Finally!

Will do.  I’m hoping to get a chance to use them in the next few weeks.
