Picked up another new rod today at Walmart.  A falcon Jason Christie 6ft8 mh mf square bill/spinner bait caster.  It was marked down to 40 bucks from $95.

That's interesting.  The normal Walmart fishing clearance season is approximately late January and extending into late March.

Clearance stuff will then languish throughout the year, scattered about within the clearance section and the fishing section.

It can be interesting to see the prices drop throughout that period.

I wonder if this rod was a fresh markdown or something that has been sitting around without a tag...

I bought several of those rods a few years ago during a clearance and they've been well used.

They had been there for a while.  At least last August. There were also 4-5 Black and yellow skeet Reese rods that were marked down to 50 bucks. I bought a all yellow skeet Reese rod last March for 45 dollars.

these rodsThan disappeared to make way for Christmas clearance and than reappeared this week

Fascinating.  There are stores I've been to, where if they put a yellow sticker on an item and round the price to the nearest dollar, shoppers will descend like locusts and clear the place out.  Others... things languish for months and months.  In one store, I saw KVD cranking rods go from a clearance sticker from 2014, while retaining the ancient clearance sticker, go back to regular price in 2017.  I couldn't convince the manager to sell to me at the clearance price.  Last I looked the rod tips were snapped off but still hanging out at full price.

Good work saving those rods from imminent danger!

I’m trying to save them all haha.  Helps with the rod collection when you can save some money once in a while.

My wife is like a sleuth.  She looks in the recycle receptacle and sees assorted TW boxes and a large bag of hook bonnets and comes in and says, " Doug.......what did you buy?"  Then I show her the six Joann's Fabric receipts and respond, " a couple things."  It's all about balance.

Nicely Done

I bought a telescopic fishing rod because I absolutely need one!

What if I'm driving in heavy traffic and see a body of water that looks interesting?

What if I'm hiking and happen upon a nice stream full of fish?

What if I buy a motorcycle and need to fish?

"What if?" asked the Baitmonkey. What if?

Well anyways I've never come across any of these scenarios...YET! But surely I will! So I bought a cheap, but supposedly good, BPS collapsible rod. It was only $20. My friend has had one for many years and it's fine.

The rod hasn't arrived yet, but I bought a Pfleuger Trion 30 to put on it. $40. I would have got something cheaper but this is lighter weight than the others I saw, and it's a darn fine reel so I can use it on any rod really.

Now I probably need some kind of case to protect the rod! Then I'm ready for on-call truck fishing!

Except now I need a special tackle box just for the truck, and some baits and terminal tackle, and probably some........(baitmonkey smiles and walks away)

ebay has been pick-pocketing me quite often lately

Held out all offseason so far, lost myself on a rainy day. This a good start for next season. Couple new things I’m excited to play with.

Terrible pic can’t tell what half of it is.

I forgot to look for black crank baits.

I do the same thing to my wife as she tend to order Amazon all the time. I can see what is being bought right at the screen!

Monkey got me for some Strike King goodness:  Rocket Shads, Lil Mr Money, 3xd, 5xd, 6xd in Clearwater Minnow.

Backorder arrival is like an extra mini-Christmas that you didn't know was coming.

I am waiting to get my Plano Edge Jig box, and can't wait to organize it lol (different problem than bait monkey)

Does TW send an email saying the back order shipped or does it just show up? Their website still says the box arrives in stock Jan 11th lol.

I have no idea if they send an e-mail or not. I'm still waiting on my Choppo-90 in Bone...and the site says "Dec 29" for back in stock. Probably a delay from the supplier is causing the wait.

I typically get an email saying the backordered item(s) shipped.

You’ll usually get an email as @Tizi mentioned. Sometimes the expected stock date isn’t met, which further pushes back the shipping date.

I'm waiting on the same thing,  getting impatient

Realistically my season doesn’t start till May, but organizing tackle in the offseason minimizes my fishing withdrawal. Still amazes me that a pricey box is in that high of demand. Being mostly a budget angler I cringe at the high demand on high end gear and what ultimately happens to prices on some mid range gear, it sadly goes up a lot too.

How long have you been waiting? My order was December 31st so not long for me.

Since early December,  I typically wouldn't care either but I have a bunch of new jigs and chatterbaits to put away

Thanks for the heads up @fishballer06, things should go a lot smoother now. (fluid bed for powder coating jigs)

Excellent choice. Don't be afraid to experiment with the level of air flow from the aerator. When I first used mine, I had it really flowing at basically fully open and I wasn't getting the best results. I've got mine barely flowing now so its just barely fluffing up that powder and it's working really well.

Thanks for the tip! Yeah, you know I'd been looking around and even went to Lowes, but I soon realize that I couldn't build one for what this one cost. Thanks again my friend.
