Latest Tackle Purchase Thread (Bait Monkey Victim Support Group)

Featured Replies

Got some plastics for jig trailers and some misc hardware.

Strike King Baby Rage craw in pearl and the Half Shell in sexy shad. I'm really curious how a white craw shape performs.

Then some small stuff. Karl's Dub Grub in Pearl and Chartreuse Pepper. The Catch Co Quiver Tail in Albino rounds out the plastic.

Hardware was a mix. Some small neon jig heads for trout, some split shot, then some smaller fine wire hooks for trout rigs with the smaller plastics or even live worms.

I also picked up a Curado K and am getting the rod for it this afternoon. I THINK that is it for a while, I'd like to get some of this stuff wet before I buy more.

Just ordered myself a jdm slx mgl from what I have been reading it sounds like a great reel for the price.

Got my Curve 55s in colors I didn’t have and wanted to try.  And a Megabass Dyna Response blade bait.  Can’t wait to try it on the Columbia for smallies.

If it were a spinning rod I would be on that deal. Currently looking at another Daiwa Tatula sv tw or another Curado K.

I need one more reel and than I’m done buying rods for the year.  Went to bps in Great Lakes crossing.  It wasn’t a awe inspiring trip.  Wanted a bass mojo heavy rod for flipping.  They didn’t have any in heavy so I bought the bass-x in stead.  Took. Took a bunch of money In case A higher end rod jumped and said buy me.  The ones they had didn’t do it for me so I spent the rest on tackle.  This one Makes 3 in a month; the carbon light combo, falcon clearance rod, and this st.croix.  The next rod will be a medium spinnin out fit.

Those are pretty sweet.

Yeah they are. Caught zero fish on them so far, but they're pretty. :D

Bait monkey has been off my back for a long time but he recently saw the Stradic C5000XG on closeout with only one left in stock so, yeah, you know the rest. I've used my original one for schoolie stripers in Maine/NH salt water rivers for 2 seasons and love it.

Two Chasebaits Mudbugs crawled into the cart (these are new for me), plus a bag of Yum 4-inch Swim'n Dingers in watermelon / pearl 2-tone. Last season these Yums have been my go-to on a ML/F spinning setup on the lake, rigged on a small jig head, and late last season even better as a trailer on a finesse skirted swim jig.

Thank you, bait monkey. Now get off my back already ;)

Bait monkey been mean to me lately.

New fishing gloves, several spools of line,  some parts to fix a reel, 100 pack of yo mommas, $180 worth of jig heads and skirts, a dobyns 745 extreme hp, dobyns 735 fury, and a couple pfg hats.

Im sure i missed a few things. That's all in a couple weeks. Think im done for awhile, I think.

Ouch!!  That is the problem with living in the northern part of the country, it gets cold most of us have to do something to scratch the fishing bug.  So why not buy more tackle!  lol

I made the mistake of thinking about what categories I didn't have covered, and learning more about color choices. This absolutely required me to fill in the massive gaps.

To that end I picked up some more Z-Man TRD's in a few sizes, so I at least have light and dark in each size.

Did the same with some of the other plastics I already had.

Then I got some spinnerbaits, again in light and dark, but I kept that to just one of each for now. Googan Zingers just because they were the only one on Karls with closed off eyelets and I think that makes a lot of sense. I'm sure I'll try a few others once things warm up a bit.

Two sizes of the VMC Rugby jig, one regular one finesse.

A dark GS Blooper to go with the lighter pair I had.

Light and dark Jenko buzz baits. (the original motivation to go browsing, I didn't have any buzz baits and was thinking about options to cover a fair bit of top water quickly, these better catch a few fish after all the money they just cost me. lol)

Then a couple (yup, light and dark) Z-Man chatterbaits. I went with the Elite model based on reviews.

Basically, any item I had but didn't have at least one light color and one dark color I filled the gap. Then I added the spinner, buzz and chatter baits.

The only tackle I've bought in quite some time.  A few things are still on backorder.  Also got over 600 hook bonnets from Amazon (and used the vast majority of them, yikes).  Tackle prices are outrageous!

This is painfully true, I've placed some orders recently, just waiting for an amazon order to arrive and just flipped an order to my buddy for another TW order.

Which one you using now?

This one - I've got a flambeau 3700 laying flat full of trailers and worms. Then I've got a 3700D, 3701, and 2 reg 3700. The sides and front pockets are filled with clamshell baits. Big swimbaits in the front sleeve and all my 2.8-3.8s in the top flap.

Oh, then I've got a Plano 3600 weekender just jammed packed with zman baits, ganged with split rings based on the bait and a smaller hardbox with ned and shakeyheads.

I'm eyeing the Plano 2.0 Duffle bag, it got a ton of space and I could centralize everything. The Okeechobee Fats Large bag is cheaper, probably not as nice as the Plano but loads of space. Might organize some plastics in those kvd worm bags.

One I was looking at until I realized it wouldn't fit under the 'work table' in the canoe was the Cabelas Advanced Angler - Magnum size. I have the Large (6x3600 boxes inside, 1x3600 in the front pocket) and it seems to be well built. This is now my plastics bag.

The Magnum holds 8x3700 boxes in the main compartment and the four outside pockets will each hold a 3600 box.
