Like every hardcore bass guy whenever a new technique hits the streets and people are having success with it all over I go out and buy it. I've fished the Ned before, but I've never done better than drop shotting or anything else with it. I always believed it was a good technique unlike the buzz bait which is absolute witchcraft. 

 

Today all of that changed. I fished three different ponds today between lunch and after work and caught at least twenty fish. I've never caught anything close to those numbers on those ponds before. It seemed like every cast I either caught a fish or had a pan fish hit it.

 

I now believe in the Ned Rig! 

 

 

When that bite is on it can be absolutely stupid! My buddy and I had 2 weekends in a row where we caught 168 one day and 189 the following weekend. All on a TRD fished Ned style. Congrats on a good day!

It's ridiculous.  I've converted two non-believers just recently who are obsessed with power fishing.  

1/10 oz Shroomz jigs and TRD 2.75" Z Man.  I won't bother with the numbers. 

It almost feels like cheating sometimes. Scary thing, it's even better if you're around smallmouth. 

No doubt the Ned Rig works, it has changed my fishing. It will catch fish if you just sticks to the basic of the Ned Rig and not try to make it better.

Your mind will be blown reading the logs that Ned Kehde and his buddies publish.  They've been catching fish all winter with their midwest finesse strategy.  The numbers are stupid.  I know the Ned rig is a numbers thing, but if you catch 30 bass, there is bound to be a few good ones in there.

 

My first tournament of the season is Saturday morning.  You better believe I've got one rigged up to get me a quick limit.

I had to convince my fishing partner of this. In a 4 hour session I caught 30 smallmouth bass to his 5. While he did have the biggest fish of the day I had 3 that were only a few oz. short of it's weight.

 

 

16.6% of all the fish I've ever caught have been on a Ned rig! 

I don't know if I have ever fished a true ned rig but I have been biting plastic worms in half and putting them on jig heads my whole life. Does that count?

Maybe I did something wrong.I tried it and caught 2 fish in about 2 hours .Went back to fishing a t- rigged weightless senko and started catching fish again.

^^^It's definitely not the "end all". There certainly are times where a different bait may get bit better but more than not, the Ned will get bit when others won't.

Sorry to be negative about it.Not like I don't believe all the stories.My impression is that it isn't as practical for shallow weedy lakes that I usually fish.It gets weeds on it nearly every cast and sinks faster than they tend to like it here.

I also fish shallow weedy spots and it works far better if you use the lightest and smallest-hooked jighead you can find.  The Zman 1/20oz ones are good as are the Gopher 1/16th with #4-6 hooks.  If I am going to be throwing it around wood I use a weedless head like a Owner Ultra or Decoy Nailbomb. 

I have no tried the Ned Rig yet.  After reading this and hearing so much about it, it'll be one of the first things I try this season.

I have found this to be true too.  It doesn't work very well in really weedy areas because it gets hung up with the exposed hook.  I prefer it for smallmouth in more rocky, open water.  I am convinced that it will work better for largies in areas where the weeds are not so thick though and I'm going to try it more this upcoming season.

i also also had a 20 fish  day yesterday on the end rig. I would find a school of fish up shallow and pull out three or four from each school. None of the Ned rig fish were over two pounds but it was a nice change after only one fish all day last time I was out  

I caught 20 the other day too! I too just tried the Ned rig with a black senko that I bit in half! 

I happened upon some TRDs at Dick's this weekend.

But I checked for some proper jig heads to fish them

on before I bought. Sadly, there were none, so I didn't

drop the TRDs in my cart  Another day.

I would recommend trying half of a zinkerz instead of the TRD (attached to a 1/16 ounce mushroom head) they are so much softer and have a better wiggle in the water.  But both work great, as a finesse fisherman I think you will appreciate the massive numbers of bass you can catch on the "ned" rig.  It might even earn a place alongside your wacky rig and drop shot.

repertoire. Thanks for the tip. Now how to sneak
