Yakkers... and even power boaters... the milk crate makes an easy way to consolidate your most important gear in an easy to carry, easy to strap down convenient package.

 

Assuming you could carry a separate cooler for ice and food/drink, if you could carry only ONE standard sized milk crate for all your other stuff (excluding rods and reels), what do you put in it?

 

Tackle box? Fire extinguisher? Air horn? Flare? Yeti mug? Lights? Anchor and line? First aid kit? Tools? 

 

Milk

6 3600 boxes two worm binders. 

One binder for spinner and buzz baits, the other for plastics. 

Besides rod holders, I have a spare prop and spare pin,

my TM battery, rope.

Anchor and rope when its not being used. It also gets the raincoat or jacket when it warms up.

I use Two.  

Storing multiple labeled 'money bags' of assorted soft plastics.

Works well.

I have one in my boat with boat tools, spare TM prop, spare prop hub, and prop wrench in it. 

Gotta love the milk crate for yakkin! Fits perfectly in rear area in my Ascend 12T. I have a "3 rod" holder attached to it, and carry extra rope, a few odds/ends, and some 3700 plano boxes.

I kayak my self. Milk crate is some thing I actually dont carry. If I did though be my camping stuff. I got places for every thing on my yak at the moment. How do you like the ascend? I was looking at them. I ended up getting a nucanoe pursuit this winter.

I carry several 360 boxes in mine until now. After reading Darren's reply, I'll be dropping a 360 or two, and adding a spare prop and pin. My T/M battery is mounted in a front compartment.

 

This will sound stupid, but when I had my ChampioN bass boat, I carried a spare outboard prop and a t/m prop. I built my own t/m and micro-pole mount for my yak. Never even thought about carrying and spare prop for it.

I haven't been on the water in the canoe yet (melt, darn ice, melt), but I've already delegated the three milk crates I've set aside

 

1) Behind the stern seat: excess cable for the Minn-Kota, anchor and line, anything else I need handy

2) Under the midship thwarts (part of the mods I'm doing)

  a - Starboard: Battery (75 ah) in a metered box for the motor and sonar

  b - Port: thowable cushion, spare life-jacket, small cooler for drinks (ice-tea and ice-coffee), misc other

Anchor & a Q-beam ?

The two deep plano's on the sides are swimbaits and if I don't feel like bringing swimbait gear they do a great job of holding my anchor, anchor line, lure retriever etc. The front PVC tube is for my net, the tall one in the back is for a light/flag pole, and the 4 others I use for rods.

in my previous jon boat, spark plugs and a multi-socket wrench ?

3700 Deep for cranks, 3700 for top water, 3700 for jerk baits, 3600 (not shown) for terminal. Attached to the side of the crate is an IFAK (Individual First Aid Kit), and other pouches for misc. I also have a 12V control box made from a 1449 Plano box that plugs into a SAE plug in the rear of the tank well that provides power to the GoPro and 12V Nav light.  

I carry the following in the rear of my Jackson Cruise 10 Angler via milk crate:  8 can Coleman cooler, 2 rods, anchor with bag and rope, assault paddle, 2 3600 waterproof boxes with lures, 1 bag of plastics, dry box with flashlight, first aid kit, fish scale, and various tools.

Everything but the kitchen sink.

 

Couple things I didn't see mentioned above; headlamp, empty bottle (urinal); tp in waterproof baggie

I have to be honest, my crate is full of junk, mostly. I conveniently use it to store some tools and misc items (pliers, snips, boga, etc) when not in the kayak. When I get to the water, it all comes out and has a place on the deck. What's left in the crate is usually a few spare packs of plastic baits, a spare spool of fresh line, and a bunch of food wrappers from the previous 10 trips I made. Some day I'll organize it and use to my advantage.

Love it.  Note, in that pic, the Mirage Drive is deployed, but with the fins tight to the hull, no need to remove the drive system in order to beach the boat.  The whole clearance thing, and won't run through weeds is much ado about nothing.

 

Never mind the fish catching mojo...

This might be a really dumb question but here goes....where does one get a milk crate?

Office supply places have "milk crates" but I say that in quotation marks because they're just cheap and flimsy. Nothing beats a real one. Problem is those warnings on the side saying property of milk company, you will be prosecuted, etc.

 

When I was young, we would "borrow" them from the grocery store loading dock.
