Is it feasible to go with one brand of soft plastics for all your needs, ie: Zoom, Strike King, Roboworm, Iovino, etc. Do any of you guys do this? Will it work?

 For instance Strike King has a fairly wide variety of most every 'type' of soft plastic.

From swimbaits, grubs, stickbait & worms to drop shot baits, creatures, craws & yes - even tubes.

 While I do fish a few different brands of baits - I am definitely helping SK's bottom line.

As stated above, yes.

 

For me, I stick to a "few" brands and occasionally branch outside

of them when I hit a sale or something tickles my fancy.

 

I fish Yamamoto senkos, shad shape worms; BPS Stick-O, some

Zoom, Z-Man, among others.

I use Yamamoto for "senko's, SK Ocho's I find to soft, Yum Dingers not soft enough

Strike King for Craws and bugs, I do have one pack of Googan, Gasp! on the way to see what the hype is about

Keitech and Biospawn paddletails

 

I've tried other brands but prefer the above. 

 

It could work if you want it to.. like most things in fishing it's up to you on what your personal preference is.  If you want to stick to one brand, many large brands out there have at least a couple options in any type of soft plastic shape you want.(aka strike king, zoom etc)

 

To me, there's subtle differences in all of them, and more importantly there's sales on different brands at different times, so I use a hodge podge of brands.

 

 

The difficulty in doing so is that you end up compromising when you don't need to (unless you are under contract with said company).

 

For example, I find Zman the best when it comes to small open hooked plastics & trailers.  However, I would hate to be forced to use any stick worm besides Senkos or any straight tail worm other than Roboworms.

I use all brands. Whatever works the best for me, fits the budget, catches fish, and doesn't tear every fish. 

 

Some outshine more than others and they get my money.

I use Yamamoto Senkos, Zoom trick ribbon tail and finesse worms, Net baits craws/chunks, and Berkley beavers. 

For me, it is impossible to go with all one brand of soft plastics. Long ago, i surpassed ‘actual need’ and entered the realm of need based on  Uncontrollable Want, and Uncontrollable Want doesn’t seem to recognize the boundaries of such things as brand. At this point, all of my soft plastic purchases seem to be impulse buys.

You can but why limit yourself? Same with the if you could only have one bait threads. Don't limit yourself and use whatever you need for fishing.

Why would you want to limit yourself that way in the first place? It's a heck of a lot of fun trying different things. Variety is the spice of life as they say.

Sure you could do it but why would you want to?   I use the brand that works best for me in each category.   Don’t care if it’s Yamamoto or BPS.  

I can be done; but, as others have said, why?

 

When I was really young I really liked the Zoom bags so that's all I bought.  I'm talking about 8-9 years old saving up my chore money to buy them.  I don't really think it's a good idea, these days.  I mean, if you wanted to try, by all means, go for it.  I just think that some companies excel at certain things and others excel at others.  If you aren't contractually beholden to any one company, why would you sell yourself short in different areas of the soft plastic spectrum?

I can't think of any good reason to do this, honestly.  If I had to do this, I'd choose Zoom, Berkley, GYCB, or Strike King. But why would I not pick and choose my favorite baits from each?

There's so many good soft plastics out there by different makers I wouldn't want to limit to just one brand

Half the fun is buying longer worms, fatter grubs, better craws, better colors, sharper hooks better weights and all that. Last year I started ordering Chinese copper weights, now I’m using them more than anything. No way I’m sacrificing twenty $7.00 tungsten weights, plus a $1.00 hook and $1.00 plastic into the water every 2 to 3 hours. I’m an expert at wasting money, but that’s almost $100 per hour. These are about forty cents each. I just hope they don’t give me cancer. It’s not worms, but it’s still trying something new to go with them. That’s half the fun.

I don't think I have a 'favorite brand' of anything. If it fits my budget and does the job, it gets bought.

Yes, I am a little biased but there are some "differences" between baits.  Take the Senko for example, everybody makes a knockoff and there's a big difference in the way each knockoff fishes compared to the original.  That "can" equate to different catch rates.  But....if you are going to use any kind of weight with a Senko, IMHO you might as well go with the cheapest knockoff you can find because the weight will cancel out the natural action.  As for everything else in the plastics world, I haven't found a style of bait that Yamamoto doesn't make and a few that are actually unique to Yamamoto like the Fat Ika.  If Yamamoto doesn't make it, I don't throw it.  

 

 

I like to buy the best tool for the job...I don't care who made it. No one is paying me to use their products exclusively.

 

For example I use the following:

 

Stick baits: GYCB Senkos.

 

Beaver Style baits: Reaction Innovations products

 

Solid body paddle tails : Keitech products

 

Drop shot plastics : Robo worm products

 

Ned rig stuff:  Zman products

 

Soft Jerk Baits: GYCB D-shads

 

And so on.........

 

I rarely buy multiple brands of one style of bait with the exception of craws with over sized claws. I have 4 I like for different things and the are:

 

Jackall Sasuteki Craws....they have a large claw with a really tight flutter and work really well in cold water or on pressured fish that have seen tons of high action baits.

 

SK Rage craws....when I want something that swims reliably out of the package, for use as a swim jig trailer or similar applications.

 

Berkley Chigger craws...best craw for me as a jig trailer

 

Netbait Paca Craws...the wild flailing action and big claws really slow the fall of these, and I like them when I need to use a heavy sinker to get through cover, but a fast fall is NOT desirable...like flipping clumps of milfoil after a front, or post spawn fish holding in thick shallow stuff

 

 

 

 

For my style of fishing, I could probably get by on SK alone... or Berkley.  Yamamoto a third possibility although I use wacky worms a lot and stopped using Yamasenkos a few years back because of cost.  There are equally as good options out there that cost less and last longer IMO... The General, WAC-O-Worm)
