For my edification why do you prefer these for jerkbaits but the KVD Mustads for your lipless?

So most of my hits have come when the bait is either paused or gliding to a stop. So if the posture of the bait when it’s paused doesn’t trigger the strike, then what is the trigger?

 

Is the action of the bait in motion what draws them in and just the pause itself regardless of bait posture that triggers the strike?

Never said I had all the answers ~ 

I simply have never seen how the bait's 'sitting' make a difference.

My version of 'why' revolves around when a bass is in pursuit of a bait fish - whatever the right 'opportunity' to strike it is -might not be determined by the bait's 'angle' in the water column.

Manufacturers have wanted me to believe it matters for a while now - I don't buy it.

 Once I started changing hooks - I get all types of 'actions' and they all keep getting bit.

   I feel so old-fashioned, listening to you guys. I've used the Rapala Countdown for 30 years. Tried other, more "refined" jerkbaits, but keep coming back to CD9s and -7s. Caught a dink on one today. Water temp somewhere in the 30's.

   I'm happy being old-fashioned ...... and catching fish.   ?   jj

Never thought about buying the Megabass jerkbaits...my Lucky Craft's have worked great over the years.

I figure they are probably more consistent and maybe the best quality.  I just can't bring myself to drop 25 bucks on em. If they were even 15 I would be game. I refuse to buy one cause I'm afraid I'll end up having to buy a lot more lol. I do pretty good on the rick clunn, kvd and rapala jerkbaits.  I'm sure eventually I'll cave and give them a try as I too am curious if they really are that good.

I’m too scared/cheap to buy x raps! And even if I do buy them, I’m afraid to throw them. Then they just swell up and explode in my tackle box......... but I bought a couple husky jerk the other day and man do they have good action and suspend perfectly. I don’t think I’ll ever be able to pull the trigger on a Megabass but I may find one in a tree one of these days.......

I've only ever bought 1, didn't impress me enough to buy another. Nothing wrong with them, just never felt like I couldn't catch just as many fish on a cheaper bait. 

Did just watch a shadow rap video too and it seems similar in many ways to the vision and flash pointer, except it has the slow sink. Seeing that fishing the 110 wouldn’t be a stretch for me since it works similar to my current stuff.

This is an interesting question. When I am on a reed bed bite I would switch up plastics till I hit on the one working that day. I just assume that next year I will do the same with jerkbaits. It is nice though when your first choice works and you don’t need other options. 

To the OP, if you would like to throw a nicer quality jerkbait, without paying an arm and a leg. The IMA lures Flit jerkbaits are great.  Awesome castability, true suspension, sharp hooks, decent colors, and durable.  I've caught over a 100 bass on the Cal Delta one flit, and it's still going strong.  Ya get that Japanese quality for 10 bucks.

I have a ton of jerkbaits.  I love buying the darn things.  What do I throw when I'm out in early or late cold water?  A JDM Flash Minnow in MS Am. Shad.  The thing just works.

Sometimes, yes...I don't think the head-to-head tells the whole story  though, since I consider jerkbaits to be one of my strengths and the other guy might not.  I've had a lot of co-anglers/partners struggle to get bit until I let them borrow a 110 though  

 

I look at the 110 in sort of the same way as a black/blue jig, it's got a proven track record.  I might not be able to explain why, but I can see the pattern of success - Both personally and in reports from other anglers, tournaments, etc...

The Vision oneten and oneten plus have accounted for several very respectable brown bass for me.

But so has the Lucky Craft 100's & 100 Deep.

Additionally, the SK KVD 300 & 300 Deep both kill it for me.

And long before any of that noise - the Rapala Husky Jerk and the Deep model, along with the Smithwith Rattle Rogue, were sticking fatties both early & late season.

  IMO, there are a ton of quality baits in this category that can & do get the job done.

Based on each of our different locals, environments and even the way we present these baits - each may find success with a different make & model. 

 To answer the OP's question - I say yes, the 110 is a great bait that out performs some baits in some conditions.

But it's not the only one I fish because it's not the only one that catches.

You tried the Shadow Raps? I am curious what others that fish jerks a lot think of them. They do well for me and I got a great deal on 19 of them when Rapala’s web site allowed us to stack multiple codes. I guess I am in the beginning stages of a jerkbait addiction, mostly over the lipless one, so I guess it just transferred;)

I have & do fish the Shadow Rap and the Shadow Rap Shad - both shallow & deep offerings. 

(Just couldn't fit that particular box into the picture).

Again - another quality bait that can & does catch bass.

It does have a slightly smaller profile, so I'm only using this one if & when that seems to be the preferred deal.

Generally I like a bit larger bait but those Rapala jerkbaits still have a place in my arsenal.

This thread is just like any other thread about certain baits, rods, reels, etc. People who have never used the item feel the need to say that they don't need to use it to know that it doesn't work any better than what they use.

Thankfully most just want to learn, which is mostly fun minus the frustration of getting blanked on a trip. I personally will admit to being somewhat thrifty and having a thrifty budget, so it is more difficult for me to pull the trigger on a bait in the Megabass price range. 
 

The underwater videos were telling to me. The vision seems like an aggressive jerkbait. The shadow rap series and LC pointers and flash pointers do as well. To my thinking this extends their usefulness window to the full season up here since they can be worked wild or mild. 

I like throwing jerks.  I never could figure out why one outfishes another.  I was partial to rouges for a long time.  Year before last on st. Clair we got into a jerkbait bite. My partner was throwing a Staycee and tearing them up.  I started cycling through every jerkbait in that same color in my possession.  I was getting outfished 3:to 1.  I threw at least 5 other brands and could not match the catch ratio.  I tied on one of his staycees and started matching his catch rate immediately.

Fishing lake Erie I always run two rods, one held in hand & worked & one in a rod holder trailing the boat as the waves pushed the boat imparting action. Second guy would do the same. That gives you 4 baits to monitor & make selections based on what is getting bit.

The final objective is to illicit strikes from big brown bass.

The baits are simply tools and I prefer to have a few different ones at my disposal.

I’m guilty, Lucky Craft, Jackall, and a Oneten all tied on and getting wet. Gotta find out which ones the windshield... and some days it’s not even close
