Have you ever counted your lures?

Featured Replies

I counted up my lures recently out of curiosity as I am weighing purchasing more baits (as always). I am trying to simplify my tackle, but I found that I still have a huge number! To me anyway..?

18 Topwater lures (poppers, props, buzzbaits, walkers, wakes)

7 Spinnerbaits

7 Inline Spinnerbaits

4 Crankbaits

4 Jerkbaits

6 Jigs

7 Spoons

53 Total

This doesn't even count my soft plastics! But here I just have one bulk pack each of stick worms, ribbontail worms, and craws. I'd say I have 6 unique soft plastics.

Since I thought I was a minimalist but still have way more lures than I thought I did, I'd be curious to see if you had totaled up what you have? I'm guessing there are a few collections that eclipse mine by a pretty wide margin..

I have never counted, but I assume others have more than me, and that is not fair. My wife claims I hold the record, bait monkey assures me she is wrong.

I don't have that many fingers and toes.

I buy a lot of tackle this time of year during sales.

I have it organized, butI have not even attempted to count it. my storage under the boat deck is full and I probably have that much or more in storage at the house.

I'm not going to count mine, but I keep mine in a 14x11" double sided type plano box. It has 46 compartments. It's about half full. Mostly hard baits. I do have two plastic packs of soft baits.

So, as you can surmise... I'm a minimalist.

Is this useful for something? Or just obsession compounded by free time?

I'm not sure what, exactly, I would get out of keeping a count of every lure.

I do it so I don't go and buy a duplicate of something I already have - budgetary constraints you see.

Yep, I'd say it's helped tame the bait monkey a little. I've deleted my TW cart on more than a few occasions after consulting the spreadsheet.

I have about 8 3700 plano boxes, and 3 bass mafia boxes full of lures labeled. I am not sure the count of them. I now have to get another soft plastic container because I cannot hold anymore.

Might be time to give some away to family and friends. I seem to get all the ned style, and drop shot baits.

Rather than count each individual bait,

(which btw, I do not know the total of)

I keep track of how many techniques I am ready & able to present effectively.

The number of baits with in each technique varies depending on how often I use it.

So we're looking at ~ Topwater hard & soft baits, shallow, mid & deep water cranking baits, Lippless baits, jerkbaits,

Jigs to include; casting, football, finesse, swinghead, flipping, shakey head, tubes, swim jigs, hair jigs, & bladed jigs.

Spybaits, underspins, scrougers, spinnerbaits, buzzbaits, frogs, A-Rigs, swimbaits, drop shots baits, neg rigs, blade baits, jigging spoons, and a well stocked supply of assorted soft plastics to support all of that including a metric ton of terminal tackle and trailers.

I really like a good trailer.

I just looked at my topwater boxes which dont include frogs, buzzbaits or any soft baits - 72.  I am not going to count more because topwater baits are my least amount.

I have no idea.  I am working on a spreadsheet that was suggested by BR, but not completed.  I will know soon.  My guess is I have about 350 crankbaits (shallow to deep), 65 lipless, 75 topwater, 25 frogs, 40 jerkbaits, 100 spinnerbaits, 20 bladed jigs, 75 jigs (various), 25 blade baits, 150 bags of plastics (all sorts), and a bunch of terminal tackle.

I have a dozen boxes of cranks, jerkbaits, swimbaits, top waters, ect, ect

I have one tackle bag with at least 50 lbs of soft plastic.

I keep making more plastics and jigs and spinnerbaits.  I have no desire to quit.

I will not count my tackle.  It would force me to confront my addiction and I refuse an intervention

lmao- i dont think i can count that high. i have more than that in every sleeve and i have many sleeves. i do have many that i use most of the time which would mean i dont need that many-lol. last wife said i had to much fishing stuff-lol. maybe thats why she isnt around any more. need more in line spinners on that list. my best lure is a #4 or #5 mepps.

I haven't counted but I'm guessing I'm in the 100's not counting soft plastics.  Jigs alone I'm probably around 70-80, crankbaits I'm probably around 50-60.  Add in jerkbaits, topwaters, spinnerbaits...........I'll say 200 total for everything.

I desperately need to thin mine out. Have way too many that will never ever get tied on.

My first thought when I read the thread topic was a one word answer that would have quickly been censored by the Bass Resource algorithm ?. My short answer is “No” @LargeMarge, unless it’s a specific lure or bait to which I gotta shake my head at the thought lol

My brain has shrunk...I can't count that high.
