A-Jay mentioned metal roofs and how the snow slides off them. They are great for a garage or simple gable end roof that has absolutely no pipes, hydro masts or chimneys sticking out of them. I have lost count of the number of chimneys I’ve had to replace over the years from the snow sliding and tearing them completely off the roof. I’ve seen 2’ x2’ brick chimneys torn clean off at the roof before, leaving a nice open hole for all the snow and rain to come in until May when the owner first comes back up to their cottage to find the entire living room ruined by water damage. I’ll take an asphalt roof, shovel and a good workout any day over that mess for my own home. 

And the idiots are out on Minnetonka already - just 2 weeks ago we had open water and it really hasn't been all that cold. I just hope this guy makes it back to shore before he falls through.

Sadly, this problem will never go away as long as there are bone headed people walking this earth.  There's no way to sugarcoat it either.  I don't have a lot of empathy for this sort of thing to be honest.

 

Two rigs went through on Upper Red last weekend trying to pull out their permanent wheel houses too.

First snow here in Dixie, or wherever it is that I am.  Not supposed to be much over 7", and I don't know that the ground's cold enough for it to stick around.  Probably just enough to make using the snowblower impractical and sure that my back hurts from shoveling.

I love fishing but not as much as living. You can't reach stupid.

Thursday forecast was for 5-8 inches of snow. We got 32”!!!
 

I would say the forecast was off a bit...

Also, there's a Jupiter/Saturn convergence tonight.

Been very weird here...a few very cold mornings but mostly stuck in limbo weather wise. Lots of lows in the 20s and highs in the 40s. Talked to a buddy Saturday that said we had fish able ice by Thanksgiving last year.Now we are 4 days until Christmas we have a few inches of ice so not enough to even think about trying it. Today is 47 and windy tomorrow is 54.

Looks like we're going to have a White Christmas after all. Rain tomorrow morning, changing to snow...possible 3"-6" when all is said and done.

 

Gotta call that high-schooler and make sure he can come over and dig me out either tomorrow eve or Thursday.

I’m fine with a few inches of snow. Just as long as it’s not a foot or more at a time.

Just wait - it'll be Halloween '91 all over again.

We are supposed to have 40 to 50 MPH winds tomorrow with a high in the upper 50s. Then getting rain and changing to snow tomorrow night in to Thursday. Not sure yet how much we are supposed to get. Then one of the coldest Christmas days on record for us here.

50 and rainy today and highs in the teens tomorrow. Still no snow to speak of this year

50’s today w/rain this evening, then switching to snow tomorrow. Only supposed to get an inch, the lakeshore is supposed to get around 4. 
 

It’s been around a week and a half since we’ve seen the sun for more than 30 minutes. Major downfall to living on this side of the big lake.

Now they're talking up to 10 inches.  Just a couple days ago it was 1-3 inches.  This is weather terrorism.

We do actually need some moisture.  Its been extremely dry the past month.  Its just not as noticeable because everything has froze and already gone dormant.
