The overnight lows are still looking well below freezing which is a bummer, but still heading in the right direction. The extended forecast for what it’s worth shows some upper 50 to low 60* days and lows in the upper 30’s, but that’s two weeks out. Probably not going to make my enthusiastic goal (dam you February) but quite possibly mid March is a possibility.

If the predicted temps for the following week hold true, I can see the ice on our lake at least being gone. Either way, we’re getting closer each day. Super User Jigfishn10 Posted February 28, 2021 Super User Share Posted February 28, 2021 Our 10 day is showing 40's and 50's with a couple of 30's mixed in. The rain and relatively mild (upper 40's) temps we had yesterday melted a ton of snow. Hopefully some water will open up. Then again, I'm party dumb with a chance of stupid. ?
Way north bass guy
My cousin was ice fishing on a big lake near me the other day where we have spent most of our lives on. He said there was about 10” of ice. Usually this time of year there’s over 2’. And on the part of Georgian Bay by my house that has ice, there’s only about 8”, and it also has often 2’ this time of year. That means that unless it gets and stays ridiculously cold, I should be able to launch the Smokercraft much, much earlier than normal ?? Super User A-Jay Posted February 28, 2021 Author Super User Share Posted February 28, 2021 A couple of snow machines went sub surface just south of me yesterday. Occupants got out alive. The secret melting sauce seems to come from any rain and overnight air temps over the Mendoza Line. A-Jay

We had 2 nasty cold weeks of subzero temps this month but other than that, the winter as a whole was very mild. We didn’t have a single night below zero in January which is very rare. Many lakes around here should have 2 feet of ice this time of year. They have 15-18 inches. Open water is coming sooner solely based on the fact that there isn’t nearly as much to melt. A-Jay There were 4 that went in over by Detroit yesterday, one didn’t make it. There’s one on our lake as we speak, and I saw a side by side yesterday on the lake across the road from ours. A bit too risky for me. Walking on it, no problem but, a motorized vehicle, nope!

The rain they're predicting for Tues-Night into Wednesday won't hurt either.

Global Moderator 12poundbass Posted March 4, 2021 Global Moderator Share Posted March 4, 2021 Mud season is here @A-Jay! I just found a trench that was covered in mud. It put up a good fight, but I wasn’t about to let the mud take me. @MN Fisher No more than 10 minutes after saying I’ll welcome the rain this happens. I’m rethinking the rain deal. ?

Maybe like April 2 or 3. That's less a month now and based on what I see in the forecast there is a real possibility of that.
